There was something of a shoot involving Rick Steiner and Vordell Walker at the Southern Championship Wrestling event this past weekend in Ocala, Florida. As it was explained to me by several who were at the event, Steiner seemed to come into the ring looking for a legitimate fight for reasons unknown. Backstage before the bout, he had taped up his fists in a way not to protect them while he worked a match but in a way to prepare them for a legitimate brawl. The match featured Steiner & Erick Stevens vs. Walker & Dustin Rhodes (substituting for Road Warrior Animal), with Steiner completely no selling all of Walker's offense. The two began fighting in what appeared to be a legitimate fight. At one point, Steiner tried to choke out Walker, who broke free and basically told Steiner it was on and to try again. Steiner backed off and he and Rhodes began brawling. Walker and Stevens both walked out of the match upset and went to the back. It ended up with Rhodes pinning Steiner in an impromptu singles bout. Stevens left the venue immediately without changing from his tights.

I've bought from SCW before and my contact there blamed the entire incident on Steiner. He said Rick caught Vordell off guard with a couple of cheap shots, but after that Vordell pretty much beat him down with a couple of big punches and front facelock - takedowns. After the show, Vordell jumped Steiner at the merch booth, but Rick backed down and left.

I've met Vordell once, and from that experience and everything else I've heard he's one of the nicest guys around, plus he's a judo black belt.

I saw Vordell for the first time this past weekend as I watched ROH's Third Anniversary Pt. 1 and he fights Samoa Joe. Not to bad either......

Vordell seems to have all the potential in the world. Only time will tell if he can capitilize on it.

Vordell is alright, but he really needs to work on piecing his moveset together better. He'll go from his wheel barrow suplex/kick to the face move right into a standing moonsault, with maybe a shoot kick thrown in there. He looks like a star, and probably will be huge on the indies eventually, but his moveset is a little disjointed. I've ordered some Full Impact Pro DVDs, so I'll be seeing more of him very soon.

As for this incident, Steiner's always been like this. I've heard countless stories of him being unprofessional, and it always seems to be his fault.

You're right about Vordell. If he's in there with aguy that can pace a match, he looks like the next major Superstar. If he's leading the match...not so great.

If he ends up working more "full time ish" somewhere like ROH I would think it'd be great for him if they had someone like Samoa Joe work with him on putting it all together. I think it would help him out tremendously.

I'm afraid that he's the type of guy that will get signed to WWE developmental, and get his growth stunted.
