Title: HUGE TNA news update
dynamite kido - May 18, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)
--The Slammiversary PPV show on 6/19 will have most of the line-up made clear at tonight's tapings. The main event will be a King of the Mountain title match with A.J. Styles defending against Jeff Jarrett, Abyss, Monty Brown and another wrestler (original plan was Jeff Hardy but that would be a terrible idea if it wasn't changed).
--TNA officials were thrilled, as in labeling it at 10 out of 10, with the performance of Tito Ortiz. There is nothing concrete about them doing future business, but TNA would like to use him as a recurring character and have him wrestle on big events.

STYLES & DANIELS SIGN LONG TERM DEALS WITH TNA WRESTLING
Nashville, TN (May 17, 2005) – TNA Entertainment, LCC is pleased to announce today that “Phenomenal” AJ Styles & “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels have signed long term contracts with the company through 2008.
“We are thrilled to have two of the brightest young stars in professional wrestling committed to our company for the long term,” said Dixie Carter, President TNA Entertainment. “AJ and Chris have been vital to the success of TNA thus far and will help lead us to newer heights over the next few years.”
AJ Styles is the current NWA World Heavyweight Champion. AJ defeated Jeff Jarrett this past Sunday on “Hard Justice”; this is his third Heavyweight Title reign.
Christopher Daniels is the current X-Division champion. Daniels retained his title after a victory over Shocker this past Sunday on “Hard Justice”.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling “iMPACT!” airs Fridays at 4PM on FSN (check local listings) with a Saturday midnight(local) replay and a Thursday night 2AM replay. TNA “Xplosion” is a syndicated program (check local listings).

eff Hardy has been suspended by TNA, and was sent home until further notice in a disciplinary action designed to punish him for his irresponsibility in no-showing the Hard Justice PPV, missing numerous flights out of North Carolina to Orlando this past Sunday. Hardy did arrive after the PPV and was at the hotel where the wrestlers stay but arrived so late TNA needed to substitute Sean Waltman into a match he had been advertised for against Raven. Hard Justice wasn't been the first time that Hardy was late (or an outright no-show) at TNA events, although he had been on his best behavior in recent months. There were plans being formulated for Hardy to team with his brother Matt once Matt was available to come to TNA following his WWE release, although Jeff's status with the company will have to be resolved before that plan can move forward. It may be that he's being sent home until Matt is available to come in to keep his eyes on Jeff.
NWA champion AJ Styles and TNA X-Division Christopher Daniels have both signed new deals with TNA, which is a major positive move in my opinion as losing either would be completely detrimental to the future health of the company.

Holy shit that's huge news if they have Styles and Daniels for that long. That's also got to be good news for TNA's future if they're resigning guys for that long.
Big F'N Swigg - May 18, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
They should've had Raven taunt Hardy, saying that Hardy was too scared to show up. Then have him demolish a jobber to show why.

I am assuming TNA now knows something about a TV deal and are waiting to finalize it for an announcement. How else could they justify signing guys through 2008?
Mad Dog - May 18, 2005 01:03 PM (GMT)
They definately now something if they're signing guys for that long. Maybe they have a paying deal.
whitemilesdavis - May 18, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
My bet is a WGN prime-time spot.

It just means that the parent company (aka Panda Energy or whoever would own it if it goes out of business) would pick up the cost of their contracts. I would imagine how Time Warner was paying guys their contract money after WCW went out of business.

But you have to assume Panda is optimistic to allow their money to be tied up for the next three years.

When you already lost $20 million on it, you really have no choice.

First, I've heard those numbers are nowhere near being accurate. Second, most companies would cut their losses at that point and get out..NOT start signing talent to long term contracts.

Well, I don't know who your source is but Meltzer is reporting that figure. I'm not saying it's 100% accurate, but he's probably the closest. Also, if you loose 20 million with wrestling but you're raking it in on the energy front they might just realize that the only way to recoop any of that is to stay in for the long haul.

Then that's a good thing.
