Title: ROH Results for this weekend

from PWInsider:
*Alex Shelley defeated Roderick Strong in an amazing opener that was my pick for match of the night.
*Jack Evans defeated ROH Pure champion Samoa Joe, Ebessan, and Delirious. They started out with Ebessan and Delirious doing some really funny wrestling in slow motion. Evans left with the Pure belt, but I don't think it was a title match.
*ROH Tag Team champions BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs defeated CM Punk and Ace Steele in an OK match that got really good in the last few minutes.
*Jimmy Rave pinned Matt Sydal.
*Colt Cabana and Doug Williams defeated Nigel McGuinness & Chad Collyer in a really good match.
*Matt Stryker pinned The Masked Chicago Superstar (no idea) who was a masked guy dressed in fatigues.
*ROH champion Austin Aries pinned James Gibson in about 40-45 minutes. I'm not sold on Aries but it was decent.
*Bryan Danielson pinned Homicide with a super long airplane spin in a Steel Cage match. They embraced after the match, only to have Homicide ambush him with a diamond cutter. Good match. |
Since I was there, I'll add a few notes:
The night started with a GN promo, which Shelley broke up. He said something about "Strong's fingers and Evan's mouth smelling like Aries' ass." Good stuff.
Matt Stryker beat Masked Chicago Superstar, who marked out when the crowd started "Let's go Jobber" chants.
Jack Evans didn't leave with the belt. Joe said that even though it wasn't a title match, whoever won could take the belt until he came to get it back. Apparently Jack forgot. Also, the match didn't start with Ebessan & Delirious. During introductions, Delirious sat in the corner like Raven. As soon as the bell rang he went nuts and fell out of the ring. Evans breakdanced to show up Joe, which got "You Got Served" chants. Joe was going to respond, but Ebessan asked to and did some dancing that looked like a Scrooge post reads. Evans tagged in Delirious, and Delirious and Ebessan just yelled at each other for around 5 minutes, and then did a really funny slow-mo match sequence. Great comedy. Evans won by pinning Delirious while Joe had Ebessan in a sleeper.
Whitmer and Evans make a good team. Really good. The match was very good, but nothing was outstanding.
Daisee Haze (sp?) stole Nana's crown during the match. Sydal is earning some serious respect for some of the stuff he does. Rave doesn't impress me, though. Nana cracked me up for most of the match.
Nigel and Cabana should have their own TV show. Funny guys.
Aries-Gibson was great. I'm really starting to buy Aries as champ.
Danielson-Homicide was good, but it felt short. Danielson won with an Airplane Spin, and I counted 56 Revolutions. Insane

...Colt deserves that title.

Ring of Honor returned tonight to the Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge, Illinois:
*James Gibson def. BJ Whitmer
*Matt Sydal def Ace Steel, Masked Chicago Superstar, and Matt Stryker in Four Corner Survival
*Chad Collyer def. Jimmy Jacobs
*Roderick Strong and Jack Evans def. Alex Shelley and Delirious
*Nigel McGuiness def. Colt Cabana
*Homicide def. Doug Williams
*ROH champ Austin Aries def. Bryan Danielson
*CM Punk def. Jimmy Rave in a Steel Cage Match
Quick notes: Samoa Joe came out after Aries' match, and Aries attacked him. The ring broke during the survival match and was repaired in about 15 minutes. Nana, Jade Chung, and Rave came out and cut a promo to kill time. They had trouble setting up the cage because of the bent post. |

Logically then Punk or Homicide look to be next in line for title shots against Aries.........

Homocide already has had a title shot against Aries.
Here's the list of the title petitions:
Accepted:
-James Gibson for 4/16 World Title shot (2/19): 3-0
Pending Decision:
-Alex Shelley (2/19): 2-1
-Spanky (2/19): 3-1
-Nigel McGuinness (2/19): 0-1
-Colt Cabana (3/12): 1-0
-Jimmy Rave (3/12): 0-0
Cabana also already had a title shot againt Aries, it was Aries' first title defense.
I don't know why Punk isn't listed. Punk hasn't been on the petition list for sometime now. May be he's just to busy to do only RoH shows, although that seems unlike Punk.

Homicide was always a guy who would get his fair share of title shots. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get another shot in a match with a stip....

We'll just have to give it a couple of months. Aries and Gibson are feuding now. I only wonder what is going to happen now that Daniels is back and Hardy is going to debut. Ialso wonder how long they'll stay with RoH.
