Title: Samoa Joe-ROH Pure Champ?
Big F'N Swigg - May 13, 2005 02:52 PM (GMT)
When did the title change hands? And what could this mean for the ROH Pure Title?
Mad Dog - May 13, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
It'll be considered to be more important than the World Title in a few months if he indeed becomes the champion.
dynamite kido - May 13, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
He already is the pure champion. He beat Jay Lethal for it at their debut show in Manhattan.
Mad Dog - May 13, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
Ah, I looked on their site but it takes them forever to update their results section.

Is the ROH Pure Championship treated like a secondary belt, or is it actually used with importance, like the WWF IC Title and WCW US Titles before 1992 when they went into the shadows of the World Titles.

Secondary belt for sure. It was being treated as a big deal but the title importance started horrible as they had to strip their first champion (AJ Styles) because TNA wouldn't let him work there......

It's also kind of a confusing idea, as their whole gimmick is kind of pure wrestling. So why is this division any different?
Mad Dog - May 13, 2005 07:21 PM (GMT)
Probably so they could adopt a more sports entertainment kind of fed but still crow about "real wrestling" by have the pure wrestling division.
prof_plague - May 13, 2005 07:35 PM (GMT)
They might also just want a singles title that can change hands more often.
Scrooge McSuck - May 13, 2005 07:39 PM (GMT)
For some reason, I thought this topic was replied to by "SamoaRowe". Dammit for having such a confusing name.

I think it's more of a way to ensure that the undercard gets credit for being good wrestlers, and not just the "names."
Well, I thought that until Joe got the belt.

That WAS the case Swiggy, only because over time the belt started to look bad. Now they are putting in Joe to have it mean a little more in the eyes of their fans.

Give it to Shelley, Collyer, or Cabana

I wouldn't mind seeing Shelley with the belt.......
Big F'N Swigg - May 15, 2005 04:36 PM (GMT)
His match with Strong was one of the best in Dayton. I've never been impressed by Strong, but he and Shelley opened the show with a PHENOMENAL match.
dynamite kido - May 15, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
Personally, I've been big on Strong for quite sometime. I wouldn't mind seeing him vs. Shelley for sure.
prof_plague - May 15, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
Give it to Cabana! Cabana vs. Joe! *****! (OK. But don't doubt at least ***1/2-****.)
:P

Wait...question, how long did Styles have the Pure title for? I know he won it Feb. 14 and Doug Williams won it July 17, but did Styles reign that entire time? Or rather, does anyone know when it was vacated? Styles title win isn't even acknowledged fon the RoH website.

Styles won the title in a tournament. He had to vacate it because TNA pulled him from working anymore ROH shows. They then changed the name to the Pure title instead of the Pure wrestling title which is probably the reason why they don't acknowledge his reign. In their mind it's two totally different titles......
