Title: TNA Title Poll

Big F'N Swigg - May 4, 2005 01:48 AM (GMT)
on TNAWrestling.com, they have a poll up in the iMPACT area. It asks "If TNA were to introduce a new title, what should it be?" The options are -Hardcore Title, X Tag Title, TV Title, 6 man tag title, or Women's Title.

Please vote, as Hardcore title is winning right now.

The only one I would want is Television Title. There's no sense in trying to pretend it's 1998-99 WWF, or that ECW is still around. The "Hardcore" era is over, and will remain dead for years.

prof_plague - May 4, 2005 02:03 AM (GMT)
Just because the division was over-done and became a joke?

Or it shows that there is a demand for hardcore wrestling and it is not being fulfilled by either TNA or WWE at this point?

I think the X Tag Title would provide some outstanding matches, but at the moment I think one X belt is enough. I would go for a TV title so midcarders who are not X wrestlers will have something to strive for.

dynamite kido - May 4, 2005 04:07 AM (GMT)
I swear to god if they start a hardcore division I'm so never going to let them live that down.

prof_plague - May 4, 2005 05:34 AM (GMT)
Is there much of a Women's division in TNA? (...Not like there's really one in the WWE.)

Scrooge McSuck - May 4, 2005 01:27 PM (GMT)
The Womens Title shouldn't even be an option. Strange, but true fact: Only 2% of the male population of wrestling care about womens wrestling, and 1% of them only watch them for the tits and ass.

Mad Dog - May 4, 2005 02:09 PM (GMT)
A United States title would be what I want most but a TV Title works.

Where is the poll? Can't find it.

whitemilesdavis - May 4, 2005 02:10 PM (GMT)
What's the difference between a US title and TV title?

Mad Dog - May 4, 2005 02:15 PM (GMT)
Just preference mostly and the NWA has one floating around right now.

whitemilesdavis - May 4, 2005 02:52 PM (GMT)
Just saying, if it's a new mid-card title, the name of it won't matter nearly as much as how well it's booked. But yeah, I'd vote for a mid-card title too.

That's because there's not enough Sarah Stocks and Precious Lucys out there.

prof_plague - May 4, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
Would the be enough 6-man tag matches to make it worthwhile? And a 3-man tag title is well, just seems odd.

If any company should have a 3-man tag title, it should be the WWE and everyone on air. ;) Do you think that's what TNA is going for?

Scrooge McSuck - May 4, 2005 03:03 PM (GMT)
NWA/WCW had a Six-Man Tag Team Championship around 1988-1990. I can honestly say I have no idea of any combinations who held them (except for 1 team), since they were rarely used on PPV. (The only time I've seen the title defended was WrestleWar 1991 between Ricky Morton, Tommy Rich, and JYD vs. The State Patrol & Big Cat)

whitemilesdavis - May 4, 2005 03:15 PM (GMT)
The 6-man title kind of surfaced and dissapeared at random over time. It never got over.

I can see why. It could work if there's plenty of stables in a company and are over.

whitemilesdavis - May 4, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
At most though, there could only be three or four of those.

Mad Dog - May 4, 2005 03:22 PM (GMT)
Ivan Koloff, Nikita Koloff, & Don Kernodle 84/12/04
Ivan Koloff, Nikita Koloff, & Krusher Khrushchev 85
Manny Fernandez, Buzz Tyler, & Sam Houston * 85/07<
Ivan Koloff, Nikita Koloff, & Krusher Khrushchev * 85
Dusty Rhodes & Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) 86/05/17 Baltimore, MD
Ivan Koloff & Powers of Pain (Barbarian & Warlord) 88/02/12 Philadelphia, PA
Dusty Rhodes & Road Warriors [2] 88/07/09 Chicago, IL
Road Warriors & Gen'ichiro Tenryu 88/12/07 Chattanooga, TN

WCW version:

Tommy Rich, Ricky Morton, & Junkyard Dog 91/02/17 Atlanta, GA
Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin, & Badstreet) 91/06/03 Birmingham, AL
Dustin Rhodes, Z-Man, & Big Josh 91/08/05 St. Joseph, MO
York Foundation (Terrance Taylor, Thomas Rich, & Richard Morton) 91/10/08 Montgomery, AL

Scrooge McSuck - May 4, 2005 03:24 PM (GMT)
NWA/WCW during those years had two tag titles already (World and US Tag), so I think the 6-man tag was just overkill. Once they got rid of the US Tag Team Titles, I could see them using the 6-Man, but even then, it seems like a worthless title, for one major reason...

6-Man Tags are usually just used to get a bunch of singles wrestlers in a match without blowing off feuds 1-on-1. If there were more than 2-3 stables with 3 men or more, I can see it being used, but in WCW around that time, they only had, IIRC, the Freebirds (the shit version), the York Foundation, and later in 1991, the Dangerous Alliance. The Horsemen were also around, but notice, all of these stables were HEELS. Not an interesting concept.

Here's my opinions:

A TV Title is a great idea as they need a mid-card title to help sort out the roster.

A 6 man tag title is a waste. Tag Team wrestling in the US is 2 on 2 and it will more lthan likely stay that way.

X Tag Titles=OVERKILL. Though the Cruiserweight tag teams created some interesting matches in WCW, it was a stupid attempt to create interest. If you can't try to win the World Tag Titles, you shouldn't be a team

Hardcore Title: With their roster, it could work. My only problem is that Hardcore wrestling isn't fitting with the TNA image. Nor is it as exciting seeing as we've been overexposed to hardcore wrestling in the past few years.

Women's Title: Yeah, we won't even go there.

EDIT: WMD, it's in the "Impact" portion of the site. Click on the Impact logo beneath the PPV logo.

Honestly, I've never really liked the name "TV Title."

I don't quite understand it. You have the world title, right? Which means your the champion of the World. The US Title, which means you're the champion of the United States. But champion of Television?

Which Television? Not mine, I'm the champion of my TV. Yours? Why the fuck do I care if you're the champion of your own TV? Isn't everyone a TV champ in essence?

prof_plague - May 5, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
I would take it as the title is only defended at TV tapings, but that's isn't true. Although the European title seemed weird to have, at least it made sense, especially by a couple of it's chamions.

May be instead of TV title, it could be the North American title, or something, considering the TNA roster.

whitemilesdavis - May 5, 2005 12:27 PM (GMT)
I think the original idea was because the world title was never defended on TV, to create a title that would be. Now, with no house shows, and everything on PPV, it doesn't really make sense.

And now a days, the World title has changed hands on shows like Raw and Nitro.

At least a title has never changed hands on Heat or Velocity. :P
