Title: Funaki as Cruiserweight Champ
Mad Dog - December 14, 2004 05:19 PM (GMT)
I know a lot of people seem to be excited about this but it just bugs the hell out of me. What does it say for the whole division when a guy who got 1 win gets a title shot and then wins it? There was no build to this amd they wasted Funaki's heat from a few years ago.
Not like I'm surprised. It seems the only way a cruiser even gets on Smackdown or any kind of a win is if he's getting a shot at the title. The division was doing fine with Chavo Jr. as the champion but they had to fuck that all up and ruin the division yet again.
It might be interesting to see Funaki as champ but part of me thinks we won't see him on Smackdown or PPV until he jobs the title.

Actually, I like Funaki as the champion. First off, he's better than Spike (who IMO, as a cruiser is awful) and it's good to give it too him at least for the loyalty aspect. It STILL shocks me that he was never cut. But, I like Funaki as a worker and if they were serious about building up the division......Funaki could work with any of the other cruisers and it would be decent. I couldn't say the same for Spike at least.

I agree completely with Spike. Giving him the belt was a horrible idea on the WWF's part. He's the smallest guy in the division and probably the slowest of them all. His style just doesn't fit in.
I like Funaki but I would rather have had some buildup.

Well, with the cruiser's we're lucky we're even getting matches rather than buildup.......but I definately agree with you.

They should just give it to Kidman, and have him feud with London and Chavo over it. Feuds that actually make sense, you know.

I wouldn't mind seeing Funaki defend against those guys. It would be nice to have it be a DIVISION instead of just one feud.....

Funakis win was pretty much "Arrogant heel is too confident and ends up losing". Funaki will lose the title right back, or job it anyway soon to Kidman.

Indeed, but WWE can't do anything right when it comes to cruisers. Plus they only have like 8 cruiserweights left, about half of whom I could buy as champion. Not to mention that new rule of Johnny Ace's, so I doubt we'll see any additions to the division anytime soon.

I definately agree with you, but I think you know as well as I do that if they put the belt around London.....there would be kickass cruiser matches all around. But I doubt that would happen anytime soon......

There were some good points brought up so far.
But, the crusier division has never been treated right, and never will.
Here's the titles history:
Billy Kidman 7-5-01
X-Pac 7-30-01
Billy Kidman (2) 10-9-01
Yoshihiro Tajiri 10-22-01
Billy Kidman (3) 4-2-02
Yoshihiro Tajiri (2) 4-21-02
The Hurricane 5-14-02
Jamie Noble 6-23-02
Billy Kidman (4) 11-17-02
Matt Hardy 2-23-03
Rey Mysterio 6-3-03
Yoshihiro Tajiri (3) 9-23-03
Rey Mysterio Jr. (2) 12-30-03
Chavo Guerrero Jr. 2-15-04
Jacqueline 5-4-04
Chavo Guerrero Jr. (2) 5-16-04
Chavo Guerrero Sr. 5-18-04
Rey Mysterio (3) 6-15-04
Spike Dudley 7-27-04
Funaki 12-12-04
They can't really do that much these days on SmackDown! with the crusier weights, because the most popular cruiser weight, Rey Jr is busy on the tag team scene, Kidman has held the title many times and it wouldn't be anything new, same goes for Chavito, Spike Dudley has heart but sucks, Shannon Moore is a jobber but has talent, same goes Paul London, Scotty 2 Hotty has diappeared, Nunzio is a jobber, Akio is always on Velocity. They serious handicapped this division when they put Tajiri, Matt Hardy, and the Hurricane on Raw. It didn't help matters firing Jamie Noble, and then putting Simon Dean on Raw, instead of SmackDown!
