This is the new Superman

I don't hate it, but I'm not happy with it either.

No sir I don't like it.

*puts in Superman II* Now this is Superman...

Scrooge McSuck - April 25, 2005 02:24 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't even consider watching this movie. It's an insult to the previous Superman series (although IV was pretty bad), and a big slap in the casket of Christopher Reeve.

In defence -It's Kevin Spacey playing Luthor.

The mind boggles where they found this idiot and not threw money at Tom Weling until he took the role, with Rosenbaum as Luthor, but it's Singer and he's not doing X3 so he's on my shitlist as well.

Not that I have a problem with Matt Vaughn doing X3

No one can play a better Luthor than Gene Hackman, sorry.

Hackman's Luthor was horrible. If you're comparing him to the comics, that is

Not to be bitched up, but I never read Superman comics, so I don't know how they altered the character from comic to film.

(Waits to get ass whooped)

I'm not a comic purist, I am for making a good movie. I loved Hackman as Luthor.

Lex Luthor, ruler of Australia! My buddy consistently demands a HeroClix Gene Hackman/Luthor figure.

Considering that the comic character of Lex was pretty much a joke in 1978, Hackman gets credit for making the role interesting and fun. Prior to the Superman movie, Lex was running around in a pink v-neck that made Dr. Mindbender's attire seem normal. He had a lot of slapstick plans..like launching the Daily Planet building into space, teaming up with Joker to beat Superman and Batman in a game of baseball, or trying to sabotage the Superman/Flash race. Lex's original motivation for hating Superman-- Superboy accidentally blew up his lab, causing Lex's hair to fall out. We won't even mention his animated LOD days. He was closer to Gargamel than to the Lex we know today.
