I'm currently in my phase where I want to watch as much Boxing as possible (although all the really good stuff on PPV and HBO I no longer have access to), so I'll just randomly post the fights and opinions throughout. Hopefully it spreads and gets other people into it. :)
Currently on Friday Night Fights from Caesars Palace, with Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas on the call.

Featherweight Bout scheduled for 8 Rounds: Jason Litzau (Record: 13-0; 13 KO)
vs
Poncho Martinez (Record: 12-4; 9 KO) |
The Scrooge Scorecard:
Round 1: 10-10
Round 2: 10-9 Litzau (20-19)
Round 3: 10-9 Litzau (30-28)
Round 4: 10-9 Litzau (40-37)
Round 5: X (Litzau wins by KO/referees decision)
- Tessitore and Atlas are putting over Litzau as a hot newcomer. He has yet to have to go longer than 6 Rounds in a fight, so I think he will probably take out Poncho by the 4th Round. Currently 1:00 into Round 2, and both guys holding back, but still not putting the onlookers to sleep either.
- Litzau got in a few good shots in Round 2, and Martinez just did the casual jabbing and occasional 1-2 combos that have no effect. Litzau so far has landed 37% of his punches, and Poncho only 21%.
- Round 3, Litzau pretty much destroys Martinez, getting in about 20+ punches to the head, with little to no response. Easy round for Litzau, like the previous one.
- Before it's even over, I'm giving Litzau Round 4. Atlas commened that Martinez should have more movement in him, which is why he's been taken plenty of shots already in this fight.
- The official ends the fight at 54 seconds into Round 5 after Martinez continues taking a beating. Litzau got in a lot of good shots all over the place. Litzau is now 14-0 with 14 KO's.
Sugar Ray Leonard pimps the Contender after a discussion about David Estrada vs. Sugar Shane Mosley on PPV tomorrow night.

Lightweight Bout scheduled for 4 Rounds:
Daniel Cervantes (Record: 5-0; 0 KO's)
vs.
Alejandro Ramirez (Record: 8-7-1; 5 KO's) |
Scrooges Scorecard:
Round 1: 10-9 Cervantes
Round 2: 10-9 Cervantes (20-18)
Round 3: 10-9 Cervantes (30-27)
Round 4: 10-9 Cervantes (40-36)
Snack break Round...
- Round 1 is never really impressive (unless it's a Tyson fight), but Cervantes landed a considerable more power punches, so I give him the round.
- Round 2 is easily Cervantes. Ramirez has fallen into the pattern of the previous bouts loser... throwing horrible looking punches and being knocked back quite a few times.
Hasim Rahman Interview between Rounds 2 and 3, the man who is most famous for KO'ing Lennox Lewis in South Africa in 2001.
- Round 3 is more of the same. Atlas puts over Cervantes head movement and well rounded fighting (he doesn't stick to just the body or the head).
Easy victory for Cervantes, but that's 6 wins now and still 0 Knockouts. I guess thats not a bad thing, but a lot of boxing fans come to see the big KO's.
Final fight of the evening...

Heavyweight Bout scheduled for 10 Rounds:
Dominick Guinn (Record: 25-2; 18 KO's)
vs.
Friday Ahunanya (Record: 20-3-1; 11 KO's)
|
Scrooges Scorecard:
Round 1: 10-10
Round 2: 10-10 (20-20)
Round 3: 10-9 Guinn (30-29)
Round 4: 10-9 Guinn (40-38)
Round 5: 10-9 Guinn (50-47)
Round 6: 10-9 Guinn (60-56)
Round 7: 10-9 Guinn (70-65)
Round 8:
Round 9:
Round 10:
- Pretty even Round 1. Ahunanya only threw 40-ish punches (mostly jabs), and Guinn didn't do much else of note. Round 2 ended up being more the same. BOOOOOOOOOORING. Round 3 is even more, except Ahunanya is barely throwing 39 punches per round (and only landing 4), so I'm giving it to Guinn until things change.
