I think the second one is best. It doesn't seem too overdone.

I saw these in the other boards WWE Folder... the 3rd is OK, the 2nd looks quite good if wearing a button down or something to hide the back, and the 1st is fine since no one but wrestling fans would recognize the person...
And I will only "blow my load" if he ever actually wins a title.
whitemilesdavis - April 20, 2005 03:13 PM (GMT)
I actually love the first one, and I hate Kane.
dynamite kido - April 20, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I actually like the first one myself.
Scrooge McSuck - April 20, 2005 03:15 PM (GMT)
The 1st one kinda gives me a Scarface vibe (which was directly stolen for an Eddie Guerrero shirt), but I think someone says it looks like the cover of that crap Rob Zombie movie.

I saw the comparison between them.....but the first one didn't make me think of house of 1,000 corpses at all.

It's close enough, in my opinion. It'll be something people might recongnize, but won't necessarily think of that movie. It wasn't all that big/memorable.
SamoaRowe - April 20, 2005 07:24 PM (GMT)
I think the first one gets my vote. I wouldn't be caught wearing any of them in public though.
Big F'N Swigg - April 21, 2005 12:41 AM (GMT)
Great way to steal some TNA thunder by using the "Monster" name
SamoaRowe - April 21, 2005 12:44 AM (GMT)
TNA's Abyss shirt looks like something a bootleg company would make and sell on it's own (ie, the Undertaker and Kane shirts from the late 90's).
However, it's still better than these new Kane ones.
Scrooge McSuck - April 21, 2005 01:00 AM (GMT)
Kane called himself a "Monster" as far back as 2000. Abyss if anything, is a carbon copy of Kane... except not as awesome. :)
SamoaRowe - April 21, 2005 01:04 AM (GMT)
Abyss impressed the hell out of me in 2003, though I haven't really caught many of his matches in the past year or so. I think WWE would use him well.
Mad Dog - April 21, 2005 01:05 AM (GMT)
Sorry but Abyss blows Kane away as far as inring work. He's younger and more motivated. I mean he made Jeff Hardy look passable in the ring for the first time in 4 years.
Scrooge McSuck - April 21, 2005 01:08 AM (GMT)
Kane got a good match out of A-Train, who Benoit was barely able to get a good match out of, and he's also quite carriable with the right opponent and booking (except the right booking rarely happens).
Abyss is very talented, and I've been saying that since I first saw him in the Fall of 2003, but his gimmick is a complete knock-off of Kane, except he's not "horribly scarred" physically.
Big F'N Swigg - April 21, 2005 01:08 AM (GMT)
SamoaRowe - April 21, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
I always felt Abyss was more of a crossbreed between Kane and Mankind, but I see your point.
The best Kane matches that I can remember are the one with Albert, against Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, and other Gods of modern wrestling. Abyss has had some pretty entertaining matches with AJ Styles and Kid Kash, who you would normally think he'd squash. I don't know if there is any fair way to really compare them at this stage work-rate wise, but I will admit that Kane is more accomplished.
Mad Dog - April 21, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
Abyss is definately superior. There are several Impact tags where you can tell Abyss is running the show and has made one time partners like Lance Hoyt look better than they ever do. Plus the Blackhole Slam and torture rack backbreaker are better than anything in Kane's moveset.

Eight simple words: That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it.

You've got a point, but it's not like he can't have good matches. I'm the first to admit he's nowhere near the top of the list of great wrestlers, but he's considerably underrated because of his silly character changes and feuds for most of his tenure. Off the top of my head of matches with Kane that I enjoyed quite a bit...
- Had a underrated match with the Undertaker at WM XIV (not in any way great, but energetic and with a great build for it).
- Good rematch for the World Title the night after King of the Ring '98 with Steve Austin (I wish I still had this taped).
- Several good/entertaining matches with X-Pac (who I wouldn't consider a "God of Wrestling") to name a few, at Armageddon 1999 and No Way Out 2000.
- Put on a good performance (Royal Rumble match wise) at the 2001 Rumble PPV.
- had an entertaining brawl for the Hardcore Title at WM X-7 with Raven and Big Show.
- Good Matches with Kurt Angle from a Smackdown in the Winter of 2001-2002 and at Wrestlemania X-8.
- Has always had good, but unspectacular matches with Triple H (Judgment Day 2001; No Mercy 2002 to name a few)
- Good match with Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Title on the 9/30/02 RAW.
- Good hardcore rules match with Rob Van Dam at Summerslam 2003
- The Benoit matches, of course, were mentioned (Bad Blood 2004 and 6/28/04 RAW).
- Very good match with Shawn Michaels from Unforgiven 2004.

I would consider both, in their "primes" (Kane is obviously past his) to be on an even level when it comes to in-ring capabilities. Kane runs away with the dumbest gimmick of the two thanks to about 500 alterations, and I can't compare promo skills for the obvious reasons.
SamoaRowe - April 21, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
Now that you mention it, Kane did have some surprisingly good matches with X-Pac in late 1999 and early 2000. I really remember enjoying a cage match they had (Armageddon 99 if i'm not mistaken).
Scrooge McSuck - April 21, 2005 01:35 AM (GMT)
That is correct, good sir. I also forgot to mention... even though the Kane gimmick has been completely fucked around with over and over for the past 5 years, he remains one of the most over wrestlers on the WWE Roster... unless he's helping Lita, then he'll get shit on because of her stupid ass 'self.

Their feud was one of the ones that got me interested in WWE after being a WCW mark for a long time

It was a well done feud. I remember as a mark feeling really bad for Kane when DX tied him down to the turnbuckle and X-Pac started making out with Tori in front of him. And even after they had been such a good tag team!
X-Pac is such a bastard! :P

I truly felt for Kane in that angle. It was the perfect amount of personal intimacy mixed into the storyline
Scrooge McSuck - April 21, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
I marked the fuck out when Kane came back with Paul Bearer and tombstoned Tori (I forgot when, I think 10 days before No Way Out) after DX did a beatdown on someone.

Kane was interupting a brawl between DX and the Radicalz against Foley, Rock and Too Cool. It was the perfect end to one of the best TV main events I ever saw! I was marking out big time.
Scrooge McSuck - April 21, 2005 01:50 AM (GMT)
The perfect ending was the brawl, or Kane cleaning house? If the latter... that's WWE's scape goat usually when the crowd starts losing interest in Kane. He beats the crap out of 6-10 scrubs in 2 minutes, then destroys his hated rival. Still, all the time they are mark out moments all the way.
I remember the night after Summerslam 2002 when the UnAmericans were going to burn the US Flag, Kanes "comeback video" aired, and when he didn't show up, the crowd boo'ed like X-Pac was doing his same boring shit from 1999. Then when he did come out, MSG exploded. :) He looked like he lost a little of that extra weight as well, compared to his look from before the injury.
dynamite kido - April 21, 2005 05:38 AM (GMT)
Well, apparently you mark out for Kane tremendously......but honestly A LOT of those matches were terrible.
Mad Dog - April 21, 2005 05:40 AM (GMT)
I will agree that Kane was probably the best big man in wrestling from 99-02. I might even give him 98. But Abyss quickly surpassed him in 2003.

I would probably agree with that assessment.
Mad Dog - April 21, 2005 05:43 AM (GMT)
I think that's fair. The Giant started falling apart around May of 98 or so.

I could have a couple of explanations for my reasons...
1. Back in 1998-2000, "Workrate" wasn't even in my vocabulary, and usually thought matches were either "great", "Good", or "fast forward material." Naturally, that kind of thinking carried over for people I liked, and made me hate the worse wrestlers even more.
or
2. Different rating scale. There's no way in hell Iwould rate a, for example, Kane/Snitsky match the same way I would Benoit/Jericho, or something like that, since there's an obvious gap in quality.
I think Kanes decline in 2003-2004 can be for the following reasons...
1. The first half of 2003 he was stuck in Tag Matches, where opponents varied from Regal/Storm, to the Dudleyz, to La Resistance. Other than the first team, I smell disastor.
2. The second half of 2003 he wrestled very rarely on TV and was stuck in a horrible feud with Shane McMahon.
3. Almost every TV match from 2004 was a squash match that ranged from 30 seconds to 1:45.
Not a whole lot of chances to put on anything special.
