- From Sam Goody hell, comes one of those crappy DVD's of old southern wrestling (usually USWA or WCCW), which isn't owned by Vince McMahon, and for a good reason... most of it sucked balls. This DVD only costs a few bucks, so I picked it up, and well... I'm sorry I did.
- "Gentleman" Chris Adams vs. "Stunning" Steve Austin:
These two fought a lot during this time and had some good matches, so I'm hoping this is can be the same. Adams runs in through the crowd with a bottle of some sort and smacks it across Austins head several times! Austins chick takes it from him allowing Austin to hammer on Adams. Austin with an elbow to the face and he keeps putting Adams down. Irish whip and Austin with a big back elbow followed by an elbow drop. The commentators suck and Austin beats on Adams. Scoop slam by Stunning Steve and he throws Adams through the ropes onto the floor. Austin slams Adams' head into the ring apron and the announcer actually makes reference to Austins real name. Austin off the apron with an axe-handle to the back of the neck and rams his head into the apron again. Back in the ring the match goes and Austin with another scoop slam. Austin goes to the top rope and MISSES a splash! Nice camera work as you didn't see Adams move until the move was to make impact. Adams KILLS Austin with a roundhouse right and nails a super kick and back body drop. Austin is thrown outside now and Adams rams his face into the ground. Adams with a BIG chair shot to Austin and slams him face first into the ring. Adams suplexes Austin in from the apron but it's finish #124 I hate. Jeanie pulls the leg from under Adams, allowing Austin to fall on top and hook the leg for three at 4:33. Too fast, but decent. Adams beats the shit out of Austin after the match and ties him in the ropes, but Jeanie sprays Adams in the eyes with something. Austin beats him up some more and Jeanue comes in now and slaps Adams HARD across the face. Adams butt bumps Austin and chases him out of the ring and the chase commences. **1/2 Decent enough match I think, but way too short considering the heat in this feud.
- Jimmy Jack Funk vs. Cactus Jack Manson:
YES! Cactus Jack! I hate Funk, and he has a massive belly here, but maybe Cactus can take him to a good match. Cactus has Skandar Ackbar (sp?) with him. Cactus attacks from behind with a clothsline and hammers Funk. He sends him to the buckle and stomps away at him. Irish whip is reversed and Funk with an atomic drop and clothesline, sending Cactus running to the outside. Seeing Cactus with ALL of his front teeth and a slim...slimmer body. U.S.A chants for some reason. Back in the ring and Funk with an armbar. Cactus reverses but it's reversed back and Jimmy Jack leg drops the arm and drops a kne across the elbow for good measure. Cactus whips Funk to the ropes but s put down with a shoulder block. Funk with an arm drag takeover into another armbar. Funk jerks the arm of Cactus and drops knees across the elbow again. Funk takes Cactus over with an arm wringer and keeps the hold applied. Cactus hammer sFunk in the corner and stomps away. Snapmare and knee drop by Cactus gets a two count. Funk is sent face first into the buckle. Whip to the corner but Cactus misses a charge and posts his shoulder. Outside the ring they go and Funk rams Cactus' shoulder into the post and slams Cactus on the floor hard. Cacuts fights back and chokes with the rope holding back the audience. In the ring and Cactus with a fist to the midsection and a claw hold to rake the face. Elbow to the back of the head of Funk and Cactus chokes him across the top rope. Cactus then chokes him across the second rope and nails a sit down splash across the second rope. Cactus attempts another but this time it misses and Funk with a boot to the midsection. Cactus rakes the eyes of Funk and hammers him with big rights. Irish whip and Cactus with a diving clothesline for two. Cactus applies a reverse chinlock to Jimmy Jack but Funk fights back to his feet and plants a series of elbows in Cactus, but Cactus jerks him back down to the canvas. Funk tries a Hulk up again and breaks free and bounces off the ropes with a shoulderblock but he runs into a knee lift on the second attempt. Cactus puts the boots to him and tosses him outside the ring. They go back into te ring and Cactus whips him to the buckle only to miss ANOTHER charge and eat buckle on the trip. Funk hammers Cactus with roundhouse rights and here's Ackbar on the apron. Inverted Atomic Drop by Funk and out come Gary Young and some other guy to draw the DQ at 10:24. Funk fights them off and chases them out with a cow bell. *1/2 Mainly because I mark for Cactus and the crowd was really into it, no matter how much Funk sucked.
- WCCW-World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Jerry "The King" Lawler © vs. The Junkyard Dog:
NOOO! JYD at this stage of his career was terribly out of shape and even Ric Flair, God, himself couldn't carry him to a watchable match. Take that for what it is worth. Terrence Garvin is on commentary for some reason and has too much of a hick accent to be at all threatening. Plus his gimmick was being flamboyantly gay. MASSIVE gut on JYD here, by the way. STALL!!! Lockup finally and Lawler punches JYD...and Junkyard no sells and chases Lawler. More stalling by Lawler and the referee yells at JYD. Lawler begs off the Dog and the referee seperates them. Lockup and Lawler with an armbar celebration but JYD no sells and punches Lawler in the nose and Lawler has a comical fit. Junkyard pulls Lawler back in the ring and nails a few punches to the midsection followed by a headbutt, sending Lawler to the outside. Lockup and Lawler punches JYD only to at one himself and crawls to the corner and hug the buckle. Lawler has a chain wrapped around his fist and nails JYD with it, knocking him out. Lawler tries hiding it and then chokes JYD with it. Referee checks him for the chain but he doesn't have it?! Lawler smiles at the camera and spits it out. HAHA! Lawler with it again and he knocks JYD down again with it. Another choke with the chain and again the referee checks him for it. Again nothing, but he hid it around the ring post. Lawler hits JYD AGAIN with the chain and ANOTHER choke and he covers for two, only to have JYD to send him to the outside. Lawler with a fist drop...missing and he hurt his hand. JYD punches Lawler so hard the chain lands outside the ring in Terrence Garvins hand. JYD beats the piss out of Lawler with roundhouse rights and a headbutt connects for two as Garvin puts Lawlers foot on the rope. JYD heads outside and LAwler pushes him off the apron, sending him into Garvin. Lawler chases him down now and hammers away and here's Garvin to beat on him too, causing the DQ at 11:22. -**** TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE Match. JYD fights Lawler off and goes after Garvin now for a beatdown.
- Bullrope Match:
"The Natural" Dustin Rhodes vs. "Gorgeous" Gary Young:
Young has "We Will Rock You" as his entrance theme while Rhodes has some hillbilly theme song. For a Rhodes, Dustin is in good condition here. Rhodes nails Young to start and keeps pulling him in the ring via the rope. Bionic elbow by Rhodes followed by a scoop slam. Rhodes with the bell but Young blocks. Rhodes boots him in the midsection but misses a flying cross body, landing outside the ring. Young pulls him in via the bullrope and smacks him across the back with the cow bell. A Shot to the mouth puts Rhodes down gasping for air. Young chokes Rhodes with the bell and Ackbar with a few cheap shots in on Rhodes. Irish whip and Young with a clothesline. Young follows up with a big elbow drop and nails him right in the mouth. Rhodes is cut above the eye now and Young touches three of the turnbuckles before Rhodes stops him by being dead weight. Young drops an elbow across the back of the neck and rakes the ropes across the forehead and eyes of Rhodes. Irish whip and Young with a bell shot to the midsection of Rhodes. Young touches the turnbuckles again, but again Rhodes holds him back from the 4th. Young stomps away at Rhodes like a paper bag lit on fire. Young COVERS Rhodes for some reason even though it's a Bullrope match. Body slam by Young and he nails a nasty shot to the sternum with the cow bell. Young with a series of lets and Rhodes comes back with an atomic drop and clothesline. Rhodes with the bell and he nails Young with it and slams him into the corner. Rhodes to the top rope and nails Young in the face with the bell. Rhodes rams Young's head into the buckle several times and goes for the turnbuckles and pulls Young to the corner and...out comes Chris Youngblood to attack Rhodes and Draw ANOTHER Disqualification at 8:24. * Nothing match. Youngblood stomps away at Rhodes with and chokes him with the rope and Young stomps away at the head of The Natural. Double whip and Youngblood with a boot to the mouth. Young nails him with the bell and Matt Borne comes out to chase the two members of Devistation Inc. away.
- Jeff Jarrett & "Gentleman" Chris Adams vs. Cactus Jack Manson & "Gorgeous" Gary Young:
This has a chance to be good, so expect it to suck. Jarrett & Young start the match and they lockup. Young with an arm drag to Jarrett. Jarrett applies a standing side headlock followed by a shoulder block. Hip toss is reversed so JArrett does an over head flip ala Owen and nails the hip toss and scoop slam followed by a series of head scissors take overs and dropkicks to both Cactus & Young! Jarrett applies another armbar as I noticd almost EVERY match had Ackbar at ringside. Young fights his way out and slams Jarrett and Cactus tags in and runs into an arm drag. Adams tags back in and kicks the arm of Cactus and twists the arm. Snapmare and leg drop to the arm by Adams. Cactus breaks it in rthe corner and hammers Adams but Adams fights back with rights. Cactus whips Adams to the buckle and nails a running knee lift to the chest and stomps away at the back of the head. Young makes him eat boot and tags back in for a double clothesline and fist drop ala Dibiase. Young hammers away at Adams' forehead and Cactus tags in to the rtake the face and pound him some more. Adams is sent face first into the buckle and for some reason we pan the crowd and Cactus ends up outside. Young in to pummel Adams more but he falls victim to the enziguri of doom! Jarrett tags in and pounds both men and here comes Adams. The Good Boys whip the heels into each other and Ackbar is taken out. Jarrett beats on Young and Iceman King Parcens comes in for the DQ AGAIN at 8:13. Brickhouse Brown clears the ring quickly to save his partners. **3/4 Pretty energetic and overall an entertaining tag match.
- Big Al Clifton vs. "Stunning" Steve Austin:
I'm expecting this is a jobber match, so be warned. He's REALLY fat. Lockup and Austin breaks clean and they do a little shoving match. Lockup and Austin with a big knee lift knocking fat boy down. Austin hammers away at Clifton and whips him to the ropes for a back elbow. Austin punches Clifton and no sells his offense. Austin chokes him with his foot and Jeanie chokes the fat guy a bit and slaps him. Austin pounds him a but and scoops him up and drops him across the top rope. Austin with a scoop slam and he heads upstairs and connects with the big splash for..two as he picks his head up. Irish whip and Austin with a diving shoulder tackle. Austin heads up again and nails another type of frog splash for three at 3:00 even. 1/2* Because the crowd was hot.
- "Gentleman" Chris Adams & Chris Von Erich vs. Steve Austin & Percy Pringle III:
Adams attacks Austin before the bell of course and sends him to the buckle while Von Erich beats the crap out of Pringle, who would later be known as Paul Bearer of WWF fame. This is the first time I've ever seen Chris Von Erich in action. Von Erich drop toe holds Pringle into a modified STF and Adams stomps his hand. Repeat the same action from the last sentence because I'm too sexy for my keyboard. Pringle rakes the eyes to break the hold but is caught with a cross body press for two. Lockup and Pringle kicks Von Erich and slams him?! Irish whip and Von Ercih with an arm drag and dropkick. Pringle rakes the eyes again and stomps Von Erich and gives him a wedgie of doom. Austin tags in but punches his own man and Adams comes in and goes psycho. Kick to the mid section and a vicious lunging clothesline. - USWA World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. Jeff Jarrett:
I wonder if this is a title match. I guess it is by ways of Lawlers comments. Lockup and Lawler dances around the ring. Lawler does some more talking and they circle each other. Lockup and Jarrett whips Lawler to the ropes, but he holds on. Lockup and Lawler whips Jarrett to the corner. Lockup and Jarrett nails Lawler with a dropkick and Lawler goes to hide in his managers chins. Jarrett whips Lawler into his manager and he ends up falling into the ring. Lawler gets a chain...oh god not again. He wraps it around his fist and nails Jarrett across the back of the head with it. Jarrett takes another shot in the mouth and he's out cold. Lawler pounds Jarrett and the fat guy chokes him behind the referee's back. Jarrett takes more of a beating and Lawler gains access to the chain again. Lawler chokes it with him behind the referees back and makes sure to dispose of it again. Jarrett fights back in the corner with a roundhouse right but Lawler has the chain again and nails Jarrett in the midsection with it. Lawler rams Jarrett into the turnbuckle several times and applies the Von Erich claw. Irish whip and Jarrett nails Lawler with an uppercut to the chin. Double sucker punch puts both men down. Both men are back up and Jarrett with another series of rights followed by a big wind up punch. Lawler takes more punishment and Jarrett nails a dropkick for two. Snap suplex but the referee is distracted. Lawler gets the chain again and misses Jarrett. Jarrett nails a fist drop with it for THREE at 11:08....but NO! The referee sees the chain and gives Lawler the DQ via reverse decision. DUD for a SHITTY match. Heels try a beatdown by Bill Dundee makes the save. He does, but Terrence Garvin & The Dirty White Boys make the heel save for a 5-on-2 attack. For some reason Billy Joel Travis makes the save, even though he's been a heel in every match shown.
- WCCW-Light-Heavyweight Championship Match:
Cactus Jack Manson © vs. Eric Embry:
This match can easily be pin-pointed since Mansons reign lasted all of FIVE days. And how the hell was he a L-HW anyway? He's gotta be 250 here. Embry attacks Cactus during a pre-match promo and rams him into the post. He attacks Ackbar and locks him in a cage for some reason. Embry attacks Cactus and the match heads back in the ring. Eye poke by Embry and he throws Cactus clear over the top rope onto the floor. Embry heads to the cage Ackbar is in and chokes him a little. Match finally gets into the ring officially and Cactus dances around. Lockup and Embry nails him with a barrage of rights and lefts followed by a dropkick to send Cactus to the outside. Cactus finally gets back in the ring and they lockup again. Embry with a standing side headlock. Cactus fights free but Embry nails him with a series of roundhouse rights to the outside. Embry throws Cactus back in the ring and nails a snapmare followed by several mounted punches. Sleer hold applied by Embry and Cactus has a hard time breaking free. Embry rakes the face of Cactus Jack and nails him with rights. Cactus fights back with rights of his own and nails a european uppercut to put Embry down. Cactus throws Embry threw the ropes to the outside and attempts a suplex, but Embry blocks and nails a suplex of his own on the concrete! Embry takes Cactus back in the ring and we get a CLIP of some kind as Cactus is in control. Russian leg sweep by Cactus Jack and he covers for two and pulls Embry up before the count could finish. Cactus knees Embry in the face but is put down with a lunging roundhouse right. Embry hammers Cactus in the midsection several times and goes crazy with rights but rins into a back elbow by Cactus, falling to the outside. Cactus scoop him up and slams him on the floor and nails the running elbow drop from the apron! WOO! Cactus goes up and nails it a second time! Back in the ring we go and Cactus covers for a two count! Embry from behind rolls up Cactus Jack and thats good enough for three and the Light-Heavyweight Championship Title at 8:00! **1/2 Pretty good and not at all boring. Gary Young and Cactus do a beat down and Embry loses his hair thanks to the evil doers! Embry low blows Young and nails Cactus with a chair to the head....eh.
Final Thoughts: Please kill me. There was another match on the DVD (a short midget match... no pun intended), but I decided to keep the rest of my sanity. Horrible DVD, and not even worth the 5 dollars this cost me. Strongest Possible Recommendation to Avoid this pile of dog shit.
So did those Lawler matches suck balls mostly due to Lawler?
The Lawler/JYD match had both men sucking equal amount of shit, but you could say Lawler/Jarrett was Lawlers fault, since Jarrett seemed game for it.
