Big F'N Swigg - April 17, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
Ring of Honor debuted in Dorchester, MA last night with the following results:

*Vordell Walker pinned Kevin Steen in 8:04.

*Roderick Strong defeated El Generico via submission in 11:39.

*"The Duke of Dorchester" Pete Doherty came out and cut a promo putting over Boston and burying the New York Yankees. This brought out Homicide and Julius Smokes, but American Dragon Bryan Danielson hit the ring.

*Deranged and Cheech defeated Dixie and Azrieal in 9:25.

*ROH Pure champion Jay Lethal defeated Spanky via tapout in 16:55.

*CM Punk (with Bobby Heenan) pinned the debuting Mike Kruel in 4:00. Punk was scheduled to face Jimmy Rave, who came out with his arm in a cast, claiming to have injured it falling off an elephant in Ghana, West Africa. Rave attacked Punk and choked him outwith a chain. Punk cut a promo saying he would kill Rave after.

In a "Double Stakes" Four Corner bout it was Samoa Joe vs. Alex Shelley vs. Nigel McGuiness vs. Colt Cabana. Joe pinned Cabana in 17:49, earning a shot at the Pure championship. Shelley pinned McGuiness in 25:29 to earn a shot at the ROH title.

*ROH champion Austin Aries went to a draw against James Gibson (Jamie Knoble) in 22:38 when both men's shoulders were pinned to the mat at the same time. Referee Todd Sinclair declared the match a draw but offered them a chance to continue for five more minutes. Gibson agreed but Aries was wary. Shelley attacked Aries, which prevented it from happening.

*American Dragon Bryan Danielson defeated Homicide via submission in a Lumberjack Match with the Cattle Mutilation in 24:46. EC Negro of the Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz debuted as one of the lumberjacks, attacking Danielson on the floor and revealing a Rottweilers shirt. This puts Homicide and Danielson at 2-2 in their best of 5 match series, with the final bout being announced as a Steel Cage match.

Mad Dog - April 17, 2005 05:01 PM (GMT)
Awful booking for the World Title match.

Big F'N Swigg - April 17, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
I think it would've been better without Shelley's interference. Though it makes sense with the storylines

Mad Dog - April 17, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
I'm considering going to Dayton on 5/13 but I need to see how the card shapes up before I decide. The recent string of shows hasn't filled me with a great desire to.

Big F'N Swigg - April 17, 2005 05:22 PM (GMT)
I'll be there. I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me by 2nd row seats, but the price's have gone up lately.

Mad Dog - April 17, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
I'll be 2nd or 3rd row if I go.

Big F'N Swigg - April 17, 2005 05:37 PM (GMT)
Have second row seats always been $35+?

Mad Dog - April 17, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
I was thinking that they used to be $25 and 3rd row was $20.

dynamite kido - April 17, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
This card is looks exactly like they have all year long.....mediocre.

*Deranged and Cheech defeated Dixie and Azrieal in 9:25.

-Matches like this are a big reason why ROH isn't looking too sharp lately. I actually like Deranged, but the other three are so blah to me.....I couldn't possibly care about this match.

*ROH Pure champion Jay Lethal defeated Spanky via tapout in 16:55.

-This match does interest me and it probably was at least solid. Plus, I'm curious to see what they do with Joe/Lethal.

-I'm sorry if I'm being an asshole here, but I have virtually no interest in a Punk/Rave program......at all.

-Here's another example of why ROH isn't too interesting to me right now. I actually like the match, but it's a terrible way to try and build the next guys that are going to be going after the ROH(Shelley) and Pure (Joe) titles. With all the other lackluster stuff on this show both Shelley and Joe should have been booked to singles stuff.

-Well this was another match that I actually would want to see. Too bad Maddog is right and this is booked just terrible. Also, it comes off as lazy booking.......

This sounds alright as well, but they are really killing this feud IMO. It's just dragged on forever and it's two guys that just look like they are feuding to keep them further away from the title chase. I am interested in the cage match though for sure.

I'll admit that Dixie has been a bit off his game lately, but I think Azriel is one of up and comers from the northeast. And unless you've seen World of Hurt, you've never seen Cheech in a real match.

As for the World Title, it still goes with the whole concept of Aries barely being able to escape with the belt. It's very different from Joe's dominant reign, but I would barely call it bad booking. Plus, I think it was too early in the reign to blow their load on a big Gibson match anyway, so they can build to a big rematch, or maybe pull off an Aries/Gibson/Shelly Round Robin Challenge.

Wow. I feel out. I thought that card looked good. ...Minus Colt being pinned, at least it wasn't a squash. But Joe going to the Pure Title? Isn't he going in the wrong direction?

I thought Kruel was doing some stuff with the WWE? Or is he just not signed?

dynamite kido - April 18, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
The only reason I see Joe going after the Pure title is that they want to build to a Joe/Aries title for title or something......otherwise, I have no clue to what they are doing. But of course if they do that, it'll be after the Aries/Shelley program.

Mad Dog - April 18, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
I don't understand why they don't actually give Deranged a bit of a push instead of these comedy tags or inter-gender stuff he has to do on every show. I'm sure he'd be good for putting some of the new talent over.

TehDoct0r - April 18, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
Well, Deranged is quite funny, so comedy matches are good for him.

Also, I don't think this match would be very funny. The whole Special K split has been played pretty straight. In fact, most Special K stuff has been relatively serious for about a year now.

And it makes me sad. :(
