You know, if it wasn't for the stupid spinner, it'd actually be a good looking belt.
Mad Dog - April 14, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
That and combined with the way he's wearing it.
whitemilesdavis - April 14, 2005 07:00 PM (GMT)
And just the fact that he's wearing it.
Scrooge McSuck - April 14, 2005 07:00 PM (GMT)
I can understand a piece of shit prop for the US Belt, but this is the real WWE World Title, and I find it a disgrace. At least when Austin got a customized belt, it LOOKED like a World Title, and he actually drew money.
Mad Dog - April 14, 2005 07:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah, they didn't let Rock do a custom belt but Cena gets one?
Triple H should get a custom World Title belt where instead of a gold plate on the front it's just his face.

For who's on the roster now, Cena is considered the draw.
Scrooge McSuck - April 14, 2005 07:41 PM (GMT)
If he was such a draw, why have PPV buyrates for Smackdown been rock bottom horrible, and don't blame JBL, because this isn't the 70's and 80's where 1 person is used to be the big draw.

Wrestling all together is in slump period. And becasue there isn't a time where one person is considered the biggest draw, you have to look at the top few people who are considered the draws.
And besides, I thought some of the lowest PPV buyrates have been Raw? Granted, they've all been low all together, but Raw is that much less.
Scrooge McSuck - April 14, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
No Mercy I think did 175,000 buys, which is a record low, headlined by JBL/Undertaker and the Finale of the Best of 5 Shit between Cena and Booker T.
Taboo Tuesday did like 200,000, and I think that was the lowest for a RAW PPV.
whitemilesdavis - April 14, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
I think the main idea is that the belt has already been devalued to the point, that by and large, noone will care.
prof_plague - April 14, 2005 08:44 PM (GMT)
Like in Cena's segment last week, his gimmick wants to move away from the "Wrestling Purists". ...Of course, this means the WWE is just shining its sports-entertainment. He's just a slightly less charismatic Hulk Hogan. JBL did a fine job and he improved greatly as Champ, may be Cena will be able to, too.
And may be more people will become interested in wrestling and once that happens, go back to that way wrestling once was. But in the mean time, we'll have to make due and hope some good stuff comes out of it, and try to look ahead at what wrestling will become.
whitemilesdavis - April 14, 2005 08:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah, what was the with the shot at the wrestling purists? Hey dummy, who do you think watches this show?
prof_plague - April 14, 2005 09:01 PM (GMT)
May be it's the WWE's way of try to get new people interested. We're in a new era of wrestling where there's a lot of pretentious smarks, and a lot of people get turned off from wrestling because of that, who could help the industry right now.
You don't think that there were smarks and wrestling purists in the 80s and 90s who hated Hogan? Of course there were. It was less prelevant then, but it happened. I know one of them. Granted, I know Cena isn't at the same level as Hogan, but they're similar in those aspects of wrestling style/ability, mic work, segments, et cetera.
I know I just said this, but I just hope that something like this gets more people interested in wrestling for the better.
A lot of us were 5 or 10 year old marks (or marks in general) who loved Hogan and a lot of wrestling purists hated. Cena's the same way. WWE needs a lot of young marks (or marks in general) to help the company and expand the wrestling industry. And just like Hogan, a lot of wrestling purists or smarks hate.
It's just a way to try to get people interested by "breaking tradition". That's what happened when they had Austin, by "breaking wrestling tradition". (Although it became traditional because a lof people followed in attentively, it's just a gimmick.) And like how Cena isn't exactly like Hogan and like how Cena isn't exactly like Austin, this just might be enough to get things started. ...I hope.

Actually, I believe the final numbers were something like 180,000 buys for Taboo Tuesday and 190,000 buys for No Mercy. Neither number is something to be proud of.

Never compare Cena to Hogan... ever. Cena is more like the Warrior.. minus being a complete psycho. For some unknown reason, people like him despite cutting horrible promos and putting on even worse matches on a consistant basis.
SamoaRowe - April 14, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
I have no beef with Cena's custom title. And I don't care that "he's not a draw" since no one is and who are we to complain that WWE are doing things to make Cena more popular.

OK. Cena's like Warrior. I was just trying to use a wide-scale comparison. Like I said...Cena is no Hogan. Cena won't be legendary. But who knew Hogan would have been when he debuted? Warrior is still popular to this day though because he was so over in a land where wrestling was so popular. Cena doesn't have that.
And honestly...Hogan isn't always fanastic cutting promos. And I wouldn't consider Cena's horrible. Cena is somewhere between Warrior and Hogan though.

I think they think anyone who cares about tradition is obviously an IWC member so must be told to fuck off at every corner because obviously we're not welcome.

That's all I'm saying. This is why I'd compare him to Hogan or Warrior. He's not fantastic in the ring and all of their finishers don't look that convincing, but he's popular; may be that'll be enough to go on for now.
