Title: Rebook Wrestlemania XI
Description: Since the original sucked

Mad Dog - April 7, 2005 03:52 PM (GMT)
Ok since this show sported a less than stellar card and led to a horrible year for the WWF rewrite history.

Main Event: WWF Title Match:
Bob Backlund © vs. Bret Hart

Why? Because Backlund could've been a great champion for 4-5 months before dropping the title back to Bret Hart.

No.1 Contender for the WWF Title:
Diesel vs. Shawn Michaels

Why? It was a good match. Just not main event material.

WWF Tag Team Title Match:
Owen Hart and Yokozuna © vs. 1-2-3 Kid and Bob Holly

Why? I would've had Hart/Yoko beat the underdogs the night after Royal Rumble and then have a rematch here because the Smoking Gunns sucked.

Undertaker vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

WWF Intercontinental Title Match:
Jeff Jarrett © vs. British Bulldog

whitemilesdavis - April 7, 2005 04:03 PM (GMT)
I like this idea, but it's gonna take some thought. Would you mind posting the original card, and who went over? Thanks.

Scrooge McSuck - April 7, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
The card was complete garbage originally, so it's going to be hard to be different...

WWF Title:
Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels
Why? I say Bret should've kept the title past Survivor Series to go with his "fighting champion" persona into the Summer of '95.

IC Title:
Razor Ramon vs. Diesel
Why? At least they had good chemistry together. Diesel is still heel, though. His babyface character sucked.

Tag Titles:
The Smoking Gunns vs. 1-2-3 Kid & Bob Holly
Why? Because the original match was pretty good, so why not give it another chance

Womens Title:
Bull Nakano vs. Alundra Blayze
Since they decided to do this the next night, why not put it on the PPV? The matches these two had were quite awesome considering the promotion and time limitations.

Davey Boy Smith vs. Owen Hart:
Why? To get both men on the card, and because Owen could get the best out of DB.

The Undertaker vs. Bam Bam Bigelow:
Why? Since BBB was the "leader of the M$ Corporation" (in my eyes), then he gets the final loss in the Undertaker blowoff.

Lex Luger vs. Tatanka:
Why? Give Luger the blowoff victory.

VERY Weird Dark Match:
The (New) Head Shrinkers, Aldo Montoya, Duke Droese vs. Well Dunn, Henry O. Godwinn, Mantaur
Why? No Reason... just for a few laughs. It's the Wrestlecrap Parade!

Mad Dog - April 7, 2005 04:09 PM (GMT)
Original Card:

Lawerence Taylor d. Bam Bam Bigelow

WWF Title Match:
Diesel © d. Shawn Michaels

I Quit Match:
Bret Hart d. Bob Backlund

WWF Tag Team Title Match:
Owen Hart and Yokozuna d. Smoking Gunns ©

Undertaker d. King Kong Bundy

WWF Intercontinental Title Match:
Razor Ramon d. Jeff Jarrett © by DQ

Lex Luger and British Bulldog d. the Blu Twins

whitemilesdavis - April 7, 2005 05:47 PM (GMT)
Ok, I'm only gonna use people from the original card. To get this show not to suck would take different booking for months coming into this event, so I'll try to have it make sense.

WWF Title Match:
Shawn Michaels d. Diesel ©
HBK is a much better champ than Nash. I'd pull the double switch, and by the end of the match the crowd would be 100% behind the liitle underdog HBK

Bam Bam Bigelow d. Lawrence Taylor -
The match wasn't bad, and having LT was a good spectacle. However, I'd never have a non-wrestler go over an established star so LT would give Bam Bam all he had, but come up just short.

WWF Tag Team Title Match:
Bret Hart and Owen Hart d. Smoking Gunns ©
Who wouldn't like to see the Hart bros get a good tag-title reign? Plus, I think they could get a good match out of the Gunns. I would have the Harts as heels, Gunns as faces.

Yokozuna d. Backlund-
Backlund playing face. Basically a squash with Bob blading like Mass Transit. All of this to get Yoko over as a sick, murderous heel.

Undertaker d. Lex Luger -
Taker as face, Luger as heel.

WWF Intercontinental Title Match:
British Bulldog d. Jeff Jarrett ©
I could see this being OK.

Razor Ramon and Bundy d. the Blu Twins-
Umm...Build Ramon as Bundies like the Oddities and let them be lovable faces. Just make this a feel good comedy match.

Scrooge McSuck - April 7, 2005 05:53 PM (GMT)
Wow... that card makes me wonder how you set this all up. How did Bret and Owen get back on good terms? Why is Bob a face? How is Ramon and Bundy a sensible team? Why did Luger turn heel? :D

Mad Dog - April 7, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
Ramon joins the Million Dollar Corporation.

They go with the Papa Shango was possessing Backlund and Yoko attacks Backlund during his Rumble match with Shango setting up a Mania match.

Owen decides that Bret is his best shot at his first WWF gold and uses Bret to get the titles. Then turns on him later in the year.

Luger could've gone heel instead of Tatanka the previous year.

Scrooge McSuck - April 7, 2005 06:04 PM (GMT)
Sounds good enough. :P That all actually makes sense, but why not Papa Shango vs. Bob Backlund?

Mad Dog - April 7, 2005 06:06 PM (GMT)
You'd have their match during the Rumble and then either have Yoko interfere for whatever reason or have Yoko destroy Backlund during the Rumble possibly injuring him to lead to a Mania match.

It would take quite a while to adequately lay out these stories but I'll give you the short version:

Bret and Owen : I like Mad Dog's idea. Owen uses Bret, sets up a world title feud later on.

Bob is a face because it makes more sense to have the smaller, older guy as a face. Maybe after this beatdown he can turn to his psycho-heel character. He was good at that.

How is Ramon and Bundy a sensible team? It's not. I didn't have anything for them, so I wondered what Bundy would be like as the happy dancing fat guy. It made me laugh, so I stuck him with Ramon as an Oddities type team, who would be good for comedy.

Why did Luger turn heel? Because he always sucked as a face.

No argument on that point. :)

I just don't see Backlund/Hart as a really suitable main event. Michaels/Diesel didn't have a big match feel to it at all, despite some of 1995's finest breasts making ringside cameos, but at the same time, I can't really accurately think of a bout from that timeframe that screams "WrestleMania main event" to me, like Hogan/Savage from '89 or Hart/Michaels from '96 or Angle/Lesnar from '02. I've been thinking about this thread but I feel like whatever I come up with is no better or worse than the actual card, because practically everything is thrown together. Just a matter of throwing together the best stuff possible.

Statmark - April 14, 2005 01:09 AM (GMT)
I'm with Stuttsy here. Even though it wasn't the worst Mania ever (go with XV as far as just plain offensive and maybe 2 for being bland), they pretty much did the best they could with the roster at the time. I think maybe the only real gripe is the blah match from Bret and I guess you could argue Bret/Piper or Bret/Davey Boy vs. Backlund/Owen as a switch but that screws with the tag title match which really served it's purpose just fine.

Stuttsy - April 14, 2005 01:34 AM (GMT)
I actually do love that tag title piece of business, just for the logic that if I'm going to get a mystery partner, I get the biggest, meanest fucker I can find.
