Dragon Soldier(said to be Kendo Ka Shin) used the ropes for leverage

3) BLACK TIGER IV(said to be Rocky Romero) over ALEX SHELLEY

4) JAMES GIBSON over RODERICK STRONG
Gibson "injured" his back(probably from those WACKY BACKBREAKERS~!) in this match.

5) THE EMBASSY of Rave & Vegas over THE SECOND CITY SAINTS of Punk & Cabana when Rave pinned Punk due Prince Nana's interference. The Embassy then attacked Punk with a cheese grater....

After the match, Punk got into it with some fan in the crowd

7) BLACK TIGER IV over BRYAN DANIELSON

8) JACK EVANS & RODERICK STRONG over AZRIEAL & DIXIE, LACEY'S ANGELS, and DUNN & MARCOS to become the #1 Contender's to the Tag Team Titles

10) DRAGON SOLDIER B over BLACK TIGER IV to win the Best of American Super Juniors Tournament

The crowd chanted "Don't Come Back" after the match giving DSB the ICP treatment.

James Gibson came out and cut a promo in which he said that an American talent should have won and guys like himself, Homicide, and Danielson will fight New Japan talent if they have to, to get their shot.

11) AUSTIN ARIES retained the ROH WORLD TITLE over HOMICIDE

Julius Smokes interfered during the match, but Bryan Danielson came out and brawled to the back with him, rendering him ineffective.

Well, apparently they let New Japan book this tournament and there are talks of them doing a ROH vs. NJPW deal. If this is the case.........then Gabe has lost his fucking mind. So I guess him and Inoki may have more in common than we think.....

Mad Dog - April 4, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
And the streak of below par shows continue.

Strong also hurt Gibson during their match.

dynamite kido - April 4, 2005 06:36 PM (GMT)
Seriously, if that Dragon Soldier B was Kendo Ka Shin.....I fucking hate ROH.

Mad Dog - April 4, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
Well if it was Kendo Ka Shin and he was in 3 matches......... that comes to roughly 386,200,999 armdrags that he performed during the night.

dynamite kido - April 4, 2005 07:03 PM (GMT)
I hate the ROH mutants and all.....but I would have had to join in on the "Don't come back" chants for sure.

The Last Free Voice - April 4, 2005 08:01 PM (GMT)
I think people are over reacting. I mean... It was ONE bad show. So they fucked up booking a tourney. Big whoop. Apparently it still produced a MOTYC, and had Aries Cide and what sounds like a good angle (The Embassy Trying to grate Punker's Straight Edge Tat off...). Not the end of the world in the slightest.

I'm not a ROHBot, as the booking of the tourney was fucking stupid, I agree, but let's not go overboard here. This is the company that that started off 2k4 in the shitter and ended up giving us a hell of a year...

dynamite kido - April 4, 2005 10:45 PM (GMT)
Apparently you don't understand the ramifications for letting New Japan book ANYTHING on a show. If I remember correctly you don't really watch puro....so I understand. Also, consider yourself lucky.......

The Last Free Voice - April 4, 2005 11:22 PM (GMT)
The only puro I own is the 94 and 95 JCups.

Yea. I get it was a bad show, and a bad move to let NJ book it, but I think people are going overboard with the "Gabe's lost it, ROH is DOOMED" comments. That's all.

dynamite kido - April 5, 2005 12:57 AM (GMT)
Well, let it be known that I don't think they are doomed. I just think they are a little lost right now.

The Last Free Voice - April 5, 2005 01:22 AM (GMT)
That I can agree with.

Mad Dog - April 5, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
I'm just patiently awaiting RoH to find a direction in the post Samoa Joe reign era.

I still hard for me to see Aries as RoH Champion. May be it's just because I haven't followed his matches as well.

Mad Dog - April 5, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
I'm hoping they give the title to James Gibson when he gets his shot.

I'm relatively sure that was worked, since in the next round Spanky threw in the towel for Gibson when his opponent targeted the back (which Strong supposedly worker), and now they are having issues over this move in the storyline.

Mad Dog - April 5, 2005 05:34 AM (GMT)
Ah yes....... I don't know why the Spanky thing didn't register when I originally wrote that. Must've been the lack of sleep. My bad.

TehDoct0r - April 5, 2005 06:53 AM (GMT)
It's all gravy. All I know is that anything that sets up a Spanky/Noble feud is good in my eyes.

So besides the NJ booked tourney, what are people's problems with this show? The World Title match seemed relatively well-booked, the tag titles are ok with me because I wouldn't want them to overburden Lethal, and Roderick and Jack were the right people to go over. I wouldn't even mind if Gabe hotshotted the titles over to them for a loooongggg reign to stabilize the tag division again.

I find it cool that Jack could be a tag champ in both RoH and JAPW. In RoH, I'd like to see Strong and Evans vs The Rottweilers, The Special K kids, Whitmer/Jacobs, Joe/Lethal, RCE, Punk/Cabana
In JAPW, Teddy and Jack should have stuff against Ki/Cide/BBoy, Generico/Steen/Sexxxy Eddy/Beef, The H Effect, even H20. Plus, if they could bring the Stampede Bulldogs back in that'd be great, and Joe and Super Dragon work there, so a Joe/Dragon team against Teddy and Jack in a promotion that pushes them could be certifiably insane.

I know I went from Gibson and Spany to Teddy and Jack, but bear with me here.

Mad Dog - April 5, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
Somone on another board rightly pointed out how stupid it is to have Gibson and Danielson lead the charge against NJPW if there is indeed that sort of angle.

TehDoct0r - April 5, 2005 07:05 PM (GMT)
They're the only ones that could carry the feud in both promotions. So I think it's pretty decent. Plus, if it is a "feud" the RoH guys would have to look SOMEWHAT good, and the only way NJ would job anyone to American guys is if they're working for them as well.

Mad Dog - April 5, 2005 07:18 PM (GMT)
Wouldn't Samoa Joe be the type that would rush to defend RoH from invaders though?

Yeah, but I'm sure there are a few factors involved.

Keep in mind that this seems to only be a "Juniors" feud.

Also, there are no way in hell that they would put their Heavy's in there against anyone in ROH.

Stuttsy - April 6, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)

I think it was really bad business to do a tournament like this if it was going to result in the NJPW guys pretty much walking all over the ROH regulars.

Also am I alone in not understanding Whitmer/Jacobs as a team at all? Seems a very odd pairing to me.

Big F'N Swigg - April 7, 2005 01:30 AM (GMT)
HOLY SHIT! NEW POSTER!!!

WELCOME STUTTSY!

And Whitmer was supposedly impressed by the beating Jacobs took in Dayton on 2/25 (as was I. It was a massacre) and asked him to be his partner. Which means that Jimmy takes the beating and Whitmer gets the hot tag

Stuttsy - April 7, 2005 04:13 AM (GMT)

Yeah, I got the storyline explaination but conceptually, it seems a random pairing to me. I guess with that dynamic, Jacobs taking the beating and Beej getting the hot tag, it could work. And the match with Lethal/Joe was supposedly quite good so I kinda want to see it. Even though it really sounds like a skippable show.

Strong Style Spirit had a nice report on this tournament:

QUOTE
Ring of Honor held an "American Best of the Super Jr." tournament tonight, much like the L.A. Dojo did last year. The participants fought over the right to compete in New Japan's upcoming "BEST OF THE SUPER JR. XII". Ironically enough, despite some of America's top juniors assembling, it was a Japanese person who won the tournament, and in fact a New Japan trueborn. Dragon Soldier B, who those in attendance said was Kendo Kashin under another gimmick, defeated the fourth generation of Black Tiger (Rocky Romero) in the final, after a tough night for both men. Kashin hasn't been a New Japan employee since January, 2002, when he left for All Japan, but has made occasional appearances in the past year, mainly since becoming a world-wandering freelancer. If all goes to plan, I assume this means Kashin will return to New Japan's junior division during the BOSJ, and perhaps take on old rivals such as Kanemoto and Liger. This would also mean pretty much the upper tier, credibility-wise, of Japanese juniors - Tiger Mask, Kanemoto, Tanaka, Liger, and Kashin - would all be in the same tournament. Last year, the runner-up, Rocky Romero (also this year's runner-up, albeit under a mask), was also allowed in the Japanese version, so hopefully we will see the latest incarnation of Black Tiger, a historic New Japan gimmick, in the tournament. American Dragon and James Gibson, who have been regulars in New Japan, both lost in the tournament, so it is unclear if they will still be booked in the Japanese version separately. After the final, Gibson hit the ring and declared war on behalf of himself and other ROH wrestlers (heavyweight and junior) against New Japan juniors, naming Kanemoto, Liger, Jado, Gedo, and Dragon Soldier B (although he isn't a New Japan employee).
