So what if free agency is almost over?

Scrooge McSuck - April 4, 2005 06:21 PM (GMT)
 Last year I thought the Giants were pegged for a possible Super Bowl appearence... then injuries struck, and Eli Manning was put into the #1 QB position... and let's just say, he wasn't too impressive in his Rookie season.

Mad Dog - April 4, 2005 06:23 PM (GMT)
I like what Cleveland has done so far through free agency and trades. Here are their additions:

G Cosey Coleman
G Joe Andruzzi
RB Reuben Droughns
QB Trent Dilfer
K Kyle Richardson
DT Jason Fisk
LB Matt Stewart
CB Gary Baxter

Next year will see the Browns sporting the best offensive line they've had since coming back to the league. Droughns and Suggs should make a very potent running combo. The defensive line finally shed all of the fat and Matt Stewart makes the linebackers very dangerous. The safety position is a concern though as both guys are really young.

dynamite kido - April 4, 2005 06:24 PM (GMT)
Getting Reuben Droughns is going to kill the Browns though. Especially when they find out the reason why he was just let go so easily.....

Scrooge McSuck - April 4, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
Pinning topic since I'm sure (or hope) it would get some good discussion going. (cross fingers)

Shannahan always boots his running backs like that. It's not like he's going to be carrying all of the load running wise as Lee Suggs will be around.

Scrooge McSuck - April 4, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
Any news on Ricky Williams? Last I heard, he wanted to come back about 3/4 into the 2004 Season because he went through his entire stash. :D

jamiegeist - April 23, 2005 05:57 AM (GMT)
Major Chiefs fan here, and I have to like what they've done so far.

Losses:
RB Derrick Blaylock (very expendable)
DE Vonnie Holliday (very WORTHLESS and old)

Gains:
LB Kendrell Bell (Perhaps a bit past his prime, but anything is better than last year)
S Sammy Knight (nice addition from one of the best secondaries in football)
CB Patrick Surtain (by god, we'll shut down at least one side of the field...not sure about the other)
DE Carlos Hall (don't know much about him, but like I said, it can't get any worse)

And the draft still to come in the morning. I'm very excited for this season, as somehow the Chiefs organization keeps convincing me things will get better before the Offense dries up and retires. I like adding 3 starters already over where we were last year - adding an old Coordinator. Fuckin idiots.

Mad Dog - April 23, 2005 06:29 AM (GMT)
Hopefully the Browns go for Braylon Edwards instead of Alex Smith or Aaron Rogers. More recent reports have me hopeful.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 23, 2005 06:37 PM (GMT)
If the Browns can develop a QB, Edwards and Winslow are going to lead them to victory

Mad Dog - April 23, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
This is the first time since they've come back that the Browns 1st Round pick hasn't pissed me off.

Mad Dog - April 25, 2005 01:07 PM (GMT)
I'm very happy with the Browns draft. Braylon Edwards was a good pick and Charlie Frye was a complete steal.

dynamite kido - April 25, 2005 01:09 PM (GMT)
Color me surprised MD, your Brownies finally made a good pick.

Mad Dog - April 25, 2005 01:12 PM (GMT)
New management. Savage has been making some great moves for the team so far. It's the first time in awhile that I can deal with the next season sucking because I can see some direction for the team.

I also think Frye was the only sure thing for a QB pick this year.

whitemilesdavis - April 25, 2005 01:15 PM (GMT)
Noone too exciting for the Panthers in the draft. The QB from Louisville was a good pickup, but Delhomme is firmly planted in the starting QB spot, so it looks like he'll be sitting.

I was impressed with the Brown's draft, if only because Braylon Edwards could be a hall of famer someday.
I like Frye, too, but he'll need a couple years before he's ready to take over. I think Alex Smith was the best QB in the draft, and I think he'll take his lumps this year.

On a side note, what does everyone think of Matt Jones? The guy's a freak, but I don't know how he'll do at receiver

dynamite kido - April 25, 2005 07:13 PM (GMT)
I must say that I was upset at seeing the Browns pick, being a Steeler fan and all I really didn't want to have to see Edwards 2+ times a year. But he will help them out, but I still don't see it for them yet.

Matt Jones is probably the best overall athlete in the draft, but I have no clue why Jacksonville used such and early pick on him though.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 25, 2005 07:16 PM (GMT)
A Steelers fan, eh? At least they're set for the next ten years at QB. I think the Jags thought Jones could be incredible in the slot, but I agree....with Mark Clayton still on the board, it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Mad Dog - April 25, 2005 10:33 PM (GMT)
I don't know much about Jones. He's one of those genetic freaks that every team gets a hardon for at the last minute.

Mad Dog - April 26, 2005 12:20 AM (GMT)
Browns will be sporting a very interesting lineup for next year:

Offense:

QB - Trent Dilfer
RB - Lee Suggs and Reuben Droughns
FB - Terrelle Smith
WR - Braylon Edwards, Andre' Davis, Antonio Bryant, Dennis Northcutt
TE - Kellen Winslow
LT - Ross Verba
LG - Joe Andruzzi
C - Jeff Faine
RG - Cosey Coleman
RT - Ryan Tucker

Thoughts:
That's the best offensive line the new Browns have ever sported and I'd argue the best receiving core they've had since their last Super Bowl run. Suggs and Droughns will make an excellent backfield and Terrelle Smith is one of the best blocking FB's in the league. I'm not thrilled with Dilfer at QB but he can't be worse than what this team has had over the last few years. At least he'll be protected.

Defense:

DL - Kernard Lang, Jason Fisk, Orpheus Roye
OLB - Chaun Thompson, Andra Davis
ILB - Ben Taylor, Matt Stewart
CB - Gary Baxter, Daylon McCutcheon
SS - Sean Jones
FS - Brian Russell

Thoughts:
Not sure what I think about switching to a 3-4. Chaun Thompson is going to be a definate weak link if they don't address that spot. Hopefully newly drafted Nick Speegle turns out to be a servicable enough player to fix that hole. The secondary looks a lot different so I can't really say how they'll perform.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 26, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
i think they should be good for 7-8 wins next year, but they're going to need another year or two to get into the race

i really want speegle to succeed, just because that's the greatest name ever

dynamite kido - April 26, 2005 04:28 AM (GMT)
Yo MD, you seriously can't be THAT pumped about having Dilfer though.

Mad Dog - April 26, 2005 04:45 AM (GMT)
I'm not thrilled about it but he doesn post an obscene W/L record as a starting QB. So if he wins games who cares and he's only a temporary thing anything. McCown or Frye will be at the helm in 2006.

The best they can hope for this season is 8-8 but they're at least going in a very good direction and adding good young pieces to the team right now.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 26, 2005 04:56 AM (GMT)
won't be McCown...they traded him

I think for a 6th rounder too. Damn.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 26, 2005 10:37 PM (GMT)
yeah, who did they spend that sixth rounder on?

Mad Dog - April 27, 2005 03:20 AM (GMT)
Andrew Hoffman a DT from Virginia.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 27, 2005 04:34 AM (GMT)
probably a good pick, given that they got rid of most of their underachievers off the line

Scrooge McSuck - April 27, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
It's taken 6 months, but the Sports Folder has finally surpassed Fantasy Booking in total posts... when someone else posts here first.

Back on topic... I predict another heart breaking season for the Giants.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 27, 2005 05:32 AM (GMT)
Don't worry, I'll be posting here a ton

I predict a super bowl appearence for the Falcons....and the Giants should be better after next year, but Eli Manning is still working off his bad draft karma

Scrooge McSuck - April 28, 2005 12:19 AM (GMT)
Gooood... :D Now whore, you poster who doesn't whore!

Mad Dog - May 8, 2005 09:58 PM (GMT)
So it looks like Kellen Winslow's career might be over after that motorcycle accident. What an idiot.

Bills Trade Henry to Titans for Third-Round Pick
Running Back Threatened to Sit Out Season After Losing Starting Job
By JOHN WAWROW, AP Sports

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (July 18) - The Buffalo Bills traded running back Travis Henry to the Tennessee Titans on Monday for a third-round draft pick in 2006.

Henry had been a starter since his rookie year of 2001 and was coming off consecutive 1,300-yard rushing seasons before losing his job to Willis McGahee last October.

Henry threatened to sit out this season, the final year of his contract, if he wasn't traded. He already missed three minicamp sessions this spring - including a mandatory three-day camp last month.

Neither Henry nor agent Hadley Engelhard were immediately available for comment.

The Titans need a capable alternative to two-year veteran Chris Brown, who hasn't played an entire NFL season because of injuries.

Buffalo had been looking to unload Henry since he demanded a trade following his demotion. Henry, who was a second-round pick, rushed for 3,849 yards on 963 carries with the Bills.

Henry played college football at Tennessee and is the Volunteers' career leading rusher with 3,078 yards - an average of 5.5 yards per carry.
