Title: WWF vs. WON
Description: Which Hall of Fame is worse?

Mad Dog - April 4, 2005 03:50 PM (GMT)
So which in your opinion is the bigger joke now? I would do a poll but I would like to see some discussion.

WWF - No Bruno. Bob Orton basically got in because his brat is getting a push from Hell. Weak mid-card gimmicks have gotten in.

WON - It took forever to get Bob Backlund in because Meltzer hates him. Kurt Angle is already in. Undertaker is in while guys like the Midnight Express and Curt Hennig will probably never get in. No real basis for any of the voting.

So take your pick. I pick the WON Hall of Fame because you expect the WWF one to be a mess.

whitemilesdavis - April 4, 2005 03:53 PM (GMT)
I guess I'd have to see a list of the two. I certainly think WWE's is crap.

Goota agree with you, the WON is worse. Way too many members, and just has a snooty feel with all the ancient names thrown in who most voters probably never saw, "but Dave said they were good, so we gotta vote for 'em."

dynamite kido - April 4, 2005 04:29 PM (GMT)
Personally, I think the WON is better. I'm sorry, but Pete Rose in a "wrestling" HOF is a joke anyway you cut it.

Mad Dog - April 4, 2005 04:34 PM (GMT)
I'll also mention that HHH is going to get in this year easily.

He'll be in while Eddie Guerrero, Sting, Mr. Perfect and a lot of more deserving people aren't going to make it. Owen Hart probably won't make it in either.

EDIT: Don Frye is also really high up the list as he got 77 votes last year.

SamoaRowe - April 5, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
See, the DWB Hall of Fame is about to induct Mr. Perfect, so it's better than both by default :P

I think the WON HOF is crap because it seems there is no one they WON'T induct. I don't think any HOF list should be that stinking long.

The WWE's HOF is fun because of the way they have the ceremony and I liked the dvd from last year, though I do acknowledge that inducting Pete Rose was an unfunny joke.

I think having guys like Frank Gotch and George Hackenschmidt in there is pretty useless. No one voting ever saw either wrestle a match. In Gotch's case he died long before anyone who's voting was born.

That's not necessarily the case though MD. I know that there IS footage available of both guys.....so I'm sure they have seen SOMETHING of both. But they are put in the HOF simply because of their contributions to the sport in the early 1900's.

Stuttsy - April 6, 2005 03:01 AM (GMT)

WON hall of fame has a lot more dead weight in it. I'll actually go with WWE, it's more centralized.

Kurt Angle is already in.

Kurt's in because of his amateur wrestling career, too, not just for his pro career.

QUOTE
Undertaker is in while guys like the Midnight Express and Curt Hennig will probably never get in.

Undertaker drew more than Hennig and was more important/a bigger name so I can see why he's in and not Curt.

QUOTE
No real basis for any of the voting.

Drawing power? Quality of work? Historical importance/influence?

They never drew the kind of money main-eventing like HHH did in 2000. Even if we all know who the real draw in 2000 was. ;-)

Again the WON HOF isn't based on quality of wrestling alone. Gotch probably drew a lot of money and there's probably proof of that somewhere.

To answer the question - WWE's HOF is barely half serious, if that. Complain about the WON selections all you want, but at least they take it seriously. WON is better.

dynamite kido - April 6, 2005 01:59 PM (GMT)
I agree with Ray on this one.....at least the WON HOF has SOME credibility or guidelines to get in.

Mad Dog - April 6, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
I've read quite a bit about Gotch and Hackenshmidt, which is probably more than a lot of the voters. I would have a hard time voting for the fact that I've never seen any footage of them. Yeah I've read about them but ultimately I have someone else's opinion of them.

This isn't like a real sport where I can make up for lack of footage by looking up someone's stats.

I'm also assuming that Meltz and the voters may have more means of finding out "stats" about Hackenschmidt and Gotch than you or I would. The guys names have been floated around for decades......I'm sure they are in for good reason.
