Title: How Long Have You Been A Gamer
Mad Dog - April 1, 2005 05:51 AM (GMT)
I'll go first and sound really horrible and like a loser. I've been gaming since I was old enough to hold a controller basically. I'd place it at sometime while I was two and playing on the Atari 2600 (my dad had bought one and I ended up with it shortly after). I've been told my favorite games early on were Pac-Man and Space Invaders but I can't really remember. So yeah throw me in for a little over 20 years.
My big NES favorites were Legend of Zelda and the Megaman series. I was also quite fond of a game called Mappyland for some reason.
EDIT: I've also tried to retire from gaming twice since the PS2 release. I was originally not going to buy any of the current generation stuff but ended up with all four systems. I was going to do the same thing but I've talked myself into getting a PS3 and the new Nintendo system.

As long as I can remember. I loved Duck Hunt and Bump N' Jump on NES. I would say 16-17 years. I'm more picky with games now, though. It has to be something of traditional name usually, or an exploring/RPG type game.

I think I'm just on burnout with gaming. I've seen it all and it has to look really good to appeal to me.

I've probably been playing since I was at least 4 years old.

I've been playing since the days of Atari, back in 85-86.

I'm not an avid/hardcore "gamer, in that my selection is usualy limited to what I can find for 20 bucks or less in the used or bargain bins. But I go all the way back to PONG in 1979. We got that sucker for Christmas in 79. It had THREE games- PONG, hockey and handball. To tell you how long ago that was-- we hooked it up to our old 29 inch black and white TV.
Or, if you want to get really technical: I remember walking over to the back room of "The Little Store" on Penny's Hill and playing pinball, when I was about 4.
About a year later, my mom was teaching in a center for female juvenile delinquents. Not as bad as it sounds.. it was built next to a convent and involved no handcuffs or gates. It was sort of like a college dorm atmosphere for at risk teenaged broads. Anyways, the common room in their dorm had ATARI. Over Christmas vacation, my mom would take us to work, and we'd stay in the dorm all day playing "Combat". We got the orignal 2600 shortly after that and we played the shit out of that thing until 1985 or so. This was back when my dad used to be into video games as well. Even spent an entire vacation mapping out Pitfall and trying to figure out that frickin' Raiders of the Lost Ark pile of crap. We even paid 29.99 for "Atari Pac-Man".
But some fart goblin robbed our house in Feb 84 and took ALL of our Atari cartridges. Dick. We had to re-purchase alot of our old stuff, but their were some titles we never found again: like "Venture", "Smurfs" and "Chase". That's probably why I didn't buy a Nintendo until mid 1989. I hung out at the mall, playing arcade games alot during this time. "Heavvvvvvy BARREL" was my favorite. Nintendo was okay, with my favorites being Mario 2 and 3, along with Super Tecmo Bowl. My machine was moleseted in the fall of 1992, when I brought it to college. Asshole Roommate played MY Tecmo at all hours of the day. And people wonder why I snapped that semester?!
In May 94, I saved up and got the new Sega CD-X. This was Sega's short-lived portable system. Played both Genesis and Sega CD and was supposed to act as a portable CD player. I never took it out of the house, so it was just a $400 Genesis with the CD games. Spent alot of time with that thing, most notably with Joe Montana's NFL 1994. From the original sampler CD, I enjoyed Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. Sonic CD was hella' fun. Ecco the Dolphin was okay, but I ended up stuck on the same obstacle for roughly 5 years. I picked up a Jeopardy game, but it got annoying to play with my dad-- he would always get ME to do his typing. Got bored with the whole thing around the time I got my degree in 1997.
Had a few PC games, but didn't pick up a PS2 until May 2001. Mostly so I could have a DVD player. My favorites have been All-Star Baseball 2004, the Madden and NCAA football games, NAMCO classics (Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaga, etc), and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. Superman: Shadow of Apokolips was great, but the final obstacle was/is impossible (you have to beat the crap out of Metallo, then place his neck in one teeny, tiny place). I have an....old.. version of Smackdown, with Michael Cole screaming the intro. Haven't played it in forever. I created Booker T and Iron Sheik and took them to the tag titles. Also created a lightweight Kidman...and he traded the WWF title back and forth with Spike Dudley and Dean Malenko.
Favorite PC game has been the original Age of Empires. I really dig those strategy games.

Shut up before I... dammit, why don't I have suspending powers?~!
TheGreatWhiteChoate - May 14, 2005 02:40 AM (GMT)
Because you'd abuse them....like I would.

True... Of course, I got my Mod status after a grueling test filled with puzzles, loopholes, and swerves.
