Title: TNA Needs A United States Title
Mad Dog - March 25, 2005 06:31 PM (GMT)
I've noticed already during my reviews that there's a painful amount of heavyweights sputtering around with nothing to shoot for. Raven and Dustin Rhodes recent feud is a perfect example of two guys who could've been fighting over a belt. Chris Harris' singles push last year was another good example as Harris could've used a secondary title to help build him up as a legit singles wrestler. I think Abyss and Hardy's feud is another one that could've been for a belt or to build contenders for a secondary title. I think Monty Brown also could've been helped by winning a U.S. Title and then dominating guys on his way to dethroning Jarrett.
Just my opinion though.

I would agree with this, especially because it could make Jarrett's shitty run more tolerable. That way they could try someone out at the US level instead of saying "Uh, he won't draw on top." argument that they spit around everytime they want to take the title of of Jeff.

Apparantly, and I read this ages ago so I'm probably misquoting someone, but the NWA doesn't want to give them authority over a belt like the NWA North American Title, because of Jarrett's bullishness in defending the NWA Title in other territories like he's supposed to.

That makes sense.
Funny thing how I've always thought this. I originally began to think this because it would give guys like Siaki a chance to make a name for themselves. But with the recent influx of talent, they really could use a mid-card belt.
And everytime I brought this up elsewhere, you'd think my name was Dave O'Neill.

I didn't think they really needed it until the more recent influx of talent. I'd say fall was when I started to think they needed it.

I actually was sort of considering the X title to be a "united states-ish" belt for a while back when more of TNA's roster was X division competitors and less slugs like The Outlaw and Trytan and etc. It also helped that the belt seemingly groomed AJ Styles for the NWA Championship and all.
But now things have changed and by sending Styles back into the X Division they have really emphasized that it is seperate from the World title division and has sort of dropped it to a similar level of the Cruiserweight Championship on Smackdown (where X division stars shine against each other but can't usually run with the heavyweights). I'm hoping Styles' renewed feud with Abyss will fix that feeling.

The X-title has to be changed to a cruiser title. It was a novel idea to have a title based on style, but the style was never defined, and I think the title suffered for it. After that, a mid-card title is also a must.

This is what a U.S. Title scene in TNA would look like right now:
Raven
Dustin Rhodes
Jeff Hardy
Abyss
Trytan
Ron Killings
BG James
Konnan
Apolo
Sonny Siaki
the Outlaw
Chris Candido
Bobby Roode
James Storm
Chris Harris
So those are non-X Division guys that aren't on the World Title level that would suddenly have something to shoot for singles wise in TNA.

All of those guys definitely need to be elevated.

I'm surprised you kept Apolo on that list.
