Title: Bruiser Brody in Rowe's DWB HOF?
Description: Second nomination.

SamoaRowe - March 22, 2005 09:14 PM (GMT)
I know there were discussions to redo the HOF and such but until that happens I'm just going to go along with the mini "for fun" one that I had tried starting before. Now vote.

Someone on the DVDVR board said he may have molested his niece, but the family covered it up.

Who knows though, I'm just spreading rumors now.

He did seem like a jerk in real life.

SamoaRowe - March 22, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
Meh, either way things don't seem to be going in Brody's favor right now. Nine people voted last time, so I suppose he has a chance of bouncing back.

He could. In some ways, his name is big enough to be in a HoF. ...Just not this one.

dynamite kido - March 22, 2005 11:21 PM (GMT)
There's no doubt that Brody would be in. I don't understand how he couldn't be, considering people making judgements about his personal life and so on really don't have any clear cut evidence about him. So what he was a jerk.....so was Hogan. Before Austin, Brody was hands down the greatest brawler in the history of the business. He's in if you ask me.

DK raises an excellent argument, one of which I really don't have a retort for since I am mostly indifferent (Brody being nominated was fulfilling a request from WMD).

While the man is a legend, would you say he's more of a "cult favorite" than anything?

whitemilesdavis - March 23, 2005 12:38 AM (GMT)
Yes, Brody should be in. He could elicit a response like no other performer ever. He's not a cult favorite, it's just that he never stayed in a territory long enough to be indentified with it's fans.

Mad Dog - March 23, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
I'd say yes. Hard to find a bigger name during his years.

SamoaRowe - March 23, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
This has been a more interesting poll this time around. Brody needs 70% of votes to get in, does he have any more support?

On a side note, if Bruiser doesn't get inducted, there will be an 'honorary mentions' list for nominees and what percentage of the vote they got.

dynamite kido - March 23, 2005 02:27 PM (GMT)
Just wanted to throw this out there....

How many of you, outside of myself, probably Mad Dog, and WMD for sure have actually seen much of Brody to be able to make the assessment to even place him in the HOF?

Or if you chose "no" on the poll.......what justifies a no?

whitemilesdavis - March 23, 2005 06:05 PM (GMT)
I would say most of the "territory" guys would probably get the same treatment. Vince has perverted modern fans.

dynamite kido - March 23, 2005 07:10 PM (GMT)
See Brody is more than just a "territory" guy. He was a successful draw in Japan and other countries. Plus, people don't realize how flawed the "territory" argument is anyway, considering that everyone that wrestled before Vince's WWF would fall into this category.

I understand that, and you understand that, but I would venture to say most modern fans don't quite grasp it.

But yes, Brody was a draw everywhere he went.

dynamite kido - March 23, 2005 07:18 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't disagree with that at all WMD. BUT it is actually surprising to me that the voting here wouldn't reflect our opinion. But I guess that means not many people here are old school.

whitemilesdavis - March 23, 2005 07:19 PM (GMT)
No question about that.

dynamite kido - March 23, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
Out of curiousity WMD, when did you start watching?

whitemilesdavis - March 23, 2005 07:40 PM (GMT)
Right around 1984 or 85. At least those are were my first memories are. My Uncle also gave me his Apter collection when I was in 6th grade. Those dated back to the mid-70's, so I got to read about a lot of the different territories.

You?

SamoaRowe - March 23, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
Jeez, and I was only born in 1984...

... the only Bruiser Brody matches I've seen were the ones that used to be on ESPN Classic, and this was back when wrestling was still at it's peak of popularity. Other than that, I've ready up on Brody and he was a requested nominee in the last voting thread so I thought he would make a good nominee. I'm actually glad that the voting wasn't a landslide in one direction or the other.

I wish we had more active members to vote on this.

Voting closes Saturday.

If Brody doesnt' get inducted, he'll still be an honorable mention.

Once you've passed 20, it all looks the same. ;)

Brody just had this out of control gimmick that was impossible not to buy into. You totally thought that he was a mad man, and given the chance would kill you.

You?

I got into it around the time of the first Wrestlemania as a child (I was only born in 1980, but my family used to watch as a kid.) and basically my grandparents got me into it. I took it from there and basically have zero family members these days that watch or pay any attention to it. Basically, when Vince took over the WWF is when I got into it. After that I started watching everything I could....NWA and all.

whitemilesdavis - March 23, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
My dad always watched it with me when I was a kid. It was the kind of thing where he would sit there and say " I don't see why you watch this crap, you know it's fake." but he'd never leave the room. We still watch Raw together every Monday night. Now he mostly talks about the girls, particularly Stacy.

I had a few friends who got into it with me around the big boom with the NWO and all, but none of them watch at all anymore.

At first, we only got Mid-Atlantic. 85-86 we got Georgia on TBS, and then about a year later we got the Sunday afternoon WWF show, I forget what it was called. It had to have been right around the time of WMIII as those are my very first memories of WWF.

Man, that was a touching little trip down memory lane.

Well, he wasn't above running into the crowd and cracking a couple of fans with chairs.

That's exactly what my dad still does to me now! He's gone from flat-out bashing it to sitting and watching it with me, though being very critical of it.

I agree, I should call him on it.

I was always afraid if I did that I would lose my viewing partner. Just wait 'til he hits his dirty old man phase. It can be pretty entertaining.

I wouldn't buy into it either, but if I was in the crowd and Brody was coming......bet your ass I'm fucking outta there.

He's a dickhead who took liberties with people. (votes no) I would vote "fuck no", but thats not a choice.

dynamite kido - March 24, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
Because being a dickhead or not has something to do with the hall of fame huh? If you would vote "fuck no" then obviously it's either blind hatred......or you seriously don't know what you are talking about.

I suppose some might feel that to be in the HOF you need to have been a great wrestler as well as a decent and respectable human being. I sort of feel torn in that regard.

Now I'm sort of wondering what would happen if i nominated the Dynamite Kid and Davey Boy Smith... which I'm sure I will at some point ;)

Scrooge McSuck - March 24, 2005 02:26 PM (GMT)
Dynamite is just a bitter person. OK, VERY bitter. Probably the most bitter person alive.

And yes, HoF's should only be for great people in their sport and not a disgrace to their race, which is why racist cocksucking faggot Ty Cobbs shouldn't be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

whitemilesdavis - March 24, 2005 02:29 PM (GMT)
In all honesty, in the dirty, dirty world of pro-wrestling you'll have trouble finding great human beings. They should be rated on their performance only. If we start worrying about what they do off camera, we'll have an empty hall.

Scrooge McSuck - March 24, 2005 02:54 PM (GMT)
Either way, 4 other people out of 8 voted no, so it's not like I'm the only one who doesn't like him. At least I expressed an opinion instead of voting annonimously without any explanation why.

Right, and then I express a counterpoint to your opinion. That's why it's called a discussion.

So your point, once again was:

I'm just asking, in pro-wrestling, who is a great person?

SamoaRowe - March 24, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
Actually, Plague mentioned that he considered Brody to be a dick in real life as being his deciding factor and I'm the one who called him a "cult" favorite. That explains 3 of the "no" votes, along with JPAI.

So two more people haven't spoken up.
