Former ECW World Champion & Tag Team Champion Masato Tanaka announced today in Japan that he had been invited to appear at the 6/12 ECW One Night Stand PPV at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York and will be appearing on the show.

Tanaka held the ECW World championship for several days towards the end of 1999, defeating Mike Awesome in Nashville, TN on 12/17, losing the belt back to Awesome in White Plains, New York on 12/23. Tanaka also held the ECW World Tag Team championships with Balls Mahoney and Tommy Dreamer.

Ooooooo... I wonder who else is going to be at the show; well, that's not in the WWE already.

whitemilesdavis - March 16, 2005 09:27 PM (GMT)
I betcha Corino don't get an invite.

Real F'n Show - March 17, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
Apparently Justin Credible, Chris Candido, Sunny, Tony Mamaluke, Axl Rotten, and Tracy Fuckin Smothers will be there as well.

Scrooge McSuck - March 17, 2005 01:06 AM (GMT)
Chris Candido and Sunny?! NOOOOOO! Sunny shouldn't be on WWE TV now...

Hhahahaha!!! Sounds great! "10 years ago you all dreamed about having her, and her is she is once again." You begin to hear loud shudders across the arena and the entire nation.

dynamite kido - March 17, 2005 06:16 AM (GMT)
Unless Sunny is seriously working on her weight.....I don't see the WWE putting her on the show. I don't care if it's ECW or not......Vince wouldn't put her on TV like that. At least I wouldn't think so......

Scrooge McSuck - March 17, 2005 04:17 PM (GMT)
I smell Simon Dean... oh wait, "Simon Dean" was never in ECW. That would be the only reason to use Sunny I think. (low)

Which makes me wonder. What are they going to do with the current WWE roster who's also going to be on the show?

Mad Dog - March 17, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
Still won't bother with this PPV.

whitemilesdavis - March 17, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
This PPV will suck more than other WWE PPV's. There is no point to it. No story, nothing. It's not really ECW, kids. It's WWE trying to capitilize on ECW. For now, they are saying it is just a one-off reunion type show, which is senseless. Now if they were restarting the brand, giving Heyman his own show, etc., it may be exciting, but just WWE luring in disenfranchised ECW fans..pass.

Scrooge McSuck - March 17, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
The ECW PPV buyrate will be lower than WCW Greed.

Mad Dog - March 18, 2005 07:24 PM (GMT)
At least it will keep the ECW name alive and well by drawing a nothing buyrate.

I think the buyrate will be bad, but it won't be any worse than the average Smackdown-only pay-per-view. While there are a lot of smart ECW fans who are going to be turned off by the concept, there are also a lot of stupid ECW marks who will definitly order this.

I'll still hear the more dumber marks say things like "ECW wasn't fake" and etc.

whitemilesdavis - March 18, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
ECW was fake?

ECW was fake?

It sure was.

I sort of believed that when I first heard of ECW, my friend was under the assumption that it was real. He lent me a tape of some ECW pay-per-view (this was 1998 and I cannot for the life of me remember which show it was, though I do remember who was on it) and I sat down and watched it. I was 13 and I determined the matches were "fake" based on my assumption that real fighting wouldn't be so organized, even if there were chairs and tables being used left and right.

I really don't remember which show it was, but it was my introduction to the Dudleyz, Rob Van Dam, Chris Chetti, Nova, Super Crazy, and Tazz.

(slaps Ernie to the side of the head)

Was that fake?

(as Ernie is getting up, WMD slaps him again)

What's wrong? That was just an open hand slap. Was that fake?

Mad Dog - March 18, 2005 09:47 PM (GMT)
I think the best part about this would be if they hire Candido to a one night deal and he walks out there with a TNA shirt on.

You know if Douglas and Candido are only there for a night someone will put them up to it.

whitemilesdavis - March 18, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
Douglas isn't involved, right? I thought he was just running his own show the night before.

Mad Dog - March 18, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, my bad.

I smell a Dr. D David Schultz joke in there somewhere....

And I was starting to think we didn't have any old-school fans here. Good job DK.

Hahahahha. Sorry, but that slap happened on 20/20 in 1985, that was the year I was born.

whitemilesdavis - March 20, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
I wasn't talking about when the doctor slapped your mama after you were born....

Yeah that kind of sucked.

I don't remember seeing the 20/20 peice myself, I've just read about it so many times. I do remember Hogan choking out Richard Belzer though. That was comedy gold.

Mad Dog - March 20, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
I've seen the 20/20 clip. It's been replayed serveral times. I think the guy Dr. D slapped actually lost most of the hearing in that ear.

But the really messed up thing is management told him to do that and then fired him. Sucks that he was going to get fired either way in that situation.

Get me that clip! I have to see this.

Well, if you're going to get fired either way, at least you got to slap a leading journalist who's mocking the sport you live for.

The guy was John Stossel from ABC news. Vince wouldn't have fired him but Stossel was going to sue. I believe that he never sued and it was settled out of court. Little tip to all to be wrestlers out there......Vince's money is more important than you are.
