AWA Champion Omari Heading For The US!
The bidding was fast and furious among all AWA sanctioned promotions as President Dale Gagne announced that the true World Heavyweight Champion, Takao Omori, will be heading to the United States in April to defend the championship. To date three title bouts have been signed and more are still being negotiated.

The historic first title defense by Omori in the US will be on April 2nd. CWF Mid-Atlantic Commissioner William L. Cross placed his bid to have the World Champion defend the title against AWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Ric Converse for April 2nd. However the AWA Michigan based promotion of UCW topped the bid and secured the title defense for Bay City, Michigan on April 2nd.

Omori is also scheduled to defend the AWA World Heavyweight Title on April 8th in Tuscon, Arizona for AWA Superstars Live and again on April 9th in Madison, Indiana for AWA Supreme. Former AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel is also rumored to be appearing in Madison to view this historic match.

Commissioner Cross has stated that he was disappointed that Omori's first US title defense would not occur in North Carolina, but congratulated AWA Michigan for securing this special bout for the fans in Bay City. "I know that AWA Mid-Atlantic Champion Ric Converse has been patiently waiting for his shot at the AWA World Heavyweight Title and the fans here in the Mid-Atlantic want to see the real World Champion in action. While we may have been outbid for the April 2nd date, we will get another opportunity to schedule a World Title Match in the Mid-Atlantic. My hat goes off to UCW in Michigan for putting together the winning bid," stated Cross.

I don't know how far they'll take it, but so far, I'm loving what the AWA is doing.

Why the AWA title is more important than the WWE, World Title - and TNA title put together

Yeah, I've read that. Though he is WAY off base with the importance of the title, I love the fact that the champ is touring the territories. It could lead to some great local shows for me.

TNA should get Omori to do a couple of shows if he's going to be in the States.
