Title: The WWE Hall of Fame discussion thread

dynamite kido - March 4, 2005 03:25 PM (GMT)
I just figured that I would start a thread here for us to discuss the current WWE HOF inductees.

Here they are......

"Cowboy" Bob Orton
The Iron Sheik
Nikolai Volkoff
"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff
"The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper
Hulk Hogan

Discuss.

whitemilesdavis - March 4, 2005 03:46 PM (GMT)
"Cowboy" Bob Orton - disagree
The Iron Sheik - disagree
Nikolai Volkoff - strongly disagree
"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff - agree
"The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart - disagree
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper - agree
Hulk Hogan - strongly agree. Hey, as much as I hate the guy he MADE the WWF.

Look like a pretty watered down class, honestly. They must've realized that, then swallowed their pride on Hogan hoping to save the lot.

dynamite kido - March 4, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
Honestly, I think that Jimmy Hart is deserving of a HOF spot for being a manager. He was a great heel manager in Memphis and through the whole Andy Kauffman feud. He always played second fiddle to Heenan in the WWF however.

SamoaRowe - March 4, 2005 04:13 PM (GMT)
"Cowboy" Bob Orton - Disagree, I think his being entered has more to do with a certain other Orton getting a push...
The Iron Sheik - Slightly disagree, his WWF Championship run makes him more worthy.
Nikolai Volkoff - Disagree.
"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff - Agree.
"The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart - Agree.
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper - Strongly agree.
Hulk Hogan - Strongly agree.

They should really raise the standards for being inducted though. If they use the same standards in twenty years, imagine all the unworthy mid-carders from the past few years in WWE who might make it in.

whitemilesdavis - March 4, 2005 04:22 PM (GMT)
Exactly, what's the criteria that gets Volkoff in? He did nothing, had no great matches, and was basically just another monster heel built for Hogan to destroy. Is Zeuss gonna get in too?

If one feud could get you in, I'd agree on Jimmy Hart. The Kaufman feud is one of the best things ever in wrestling, and there was NO good wrestling involved. It was all acting and crowd psychology, and for his part, Hart was perfect. His way to generate heat in WWF, however, seemed just annoying to me, rather than clever. Add to that the fact that he can't hold a candle to The Brain, and I wouldn't put him in.

dynamite kido - March 4, 2005 06:14 PM (GMT)
Just figured I throw out there this fun fact.

WWF Titles

Nikolai - one tag team championship w/Iron Sheik

Orndorff - NONE

Scrooge McSuck - March 4, 2005 06:25 PM (GMT)
Bob Orton Jr. - Undecided. I haven't seen his work outside of his WWF Run from the early-mid 80's.
The Iron Sheik - Push... former World and Tag Team Champion, and main event threat during the early 80's, but his reigns sucked and was a shitty wrestler. IMO, disagree.
Nikolai Volkoff - STRONGLY Disagree. 1 Shit Tag Reign, and 10 years of jobbing out. He better wear a Tuxedo... SHIRT, at the ceremony.
Jimmy Hart - Strongly Agree. Great heel manager from the 80's, and was 1 of the most well known of his time. His face run sucked, though.
Paul Orndorff: - Agree, but barely. He made $20,000-$25,000 a week in his program with Hogan, possibly the largest drawing feud at the time, so that gets credit. A good wrestler, but his career tanked after 1987.
Roddy Piper - Strongly Agree. Without him, the "Rock n' Wrestling" wouldn't have been the same.
Hulk Hogan - DO I REALLY NEED TO SAY IT?

If the HoF could only have two people in it, Hulk Hogan and Bruno Sammartino would be the picks. Bruno is the biggest draw ever for the (W)WWF at MSG, had a combined run of 11 years as World Champion from 1963-1977, and is by far the most popular wrestler of his time.

Hulk Hogan is possibly (is IMO) the biggest draw in wrestling for the last 2 decades. Helped make the WWF go from a regional promotion to Global, was drawing boat loads of money every night no matter the opponent, was 1 of the reasons WCW became the #1 company in 1996, is the most recognized wrestler in Hollywood (other than the Rock), and basically is a bigger household name than any other wrestler of his time.

whitemilesdavis - March 4, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
I truely think a WWE HOF with two members would have to have Hogan and Austin.

Yeah, but Orndorff was good. There's a big difference in my mind.

Scrooge McSuck - March 4, 2005 06:41 PM (GMT)
Make it a push: 3 men with Bruno, Hulk, and Austin. Three different generations.

prof_plague - March 4, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
Wow - I feel out. I would have agreed with making Iron Shiek HoF. He would be better fit for a year or two, but stil HoF though.

And Hart? Naturally. He might have been second best in the WWF, but he was second best to Heenan. Show me a manager who was never second best to Heenan.

And when do you think DiBiase will be inducted? '05 might feel too soon, but sometime soon I would like to see him in the HoF.

Scrooge McSuck - March 4, 2005 07:26 PM (GMT)
If Ted Dibiase wishes to participate, whenever he's offered (maybe soon I hope), but he doesn't want to, he won't be. This could also be the reason why Bruno isn't it yet (I refuse to mention Bret Hart, since they are probably saving him for a special occasion).

dynamite kido - March 4, 2005 07:27 PM (GMT)
Dibiase could be added as soon as this year as apparently he has taken a job with the WWE as a road agent for Smackdown. But if not this year, next year is probably a lock for him.

Also, if I was going to put two people in it would surely be Lou Thesz and Bruno first. Hogan would come later........

Yeah. And as much as I can't stand him, same's true with Ultimate Warrior.

One I hope one day the Harts will be in the WWF HoF. Bret, Owen, Stu-if he counts, Bulldog, and may be even the Anvil. I know the first four all deserve to be in the HoF.

dynamite kido - March 4, 2005 07:38 PM (GMT)
Did you just say that you would put the Ultimate Warrior in the HOF?

It's debatable. But possible. Even if I can't stand the guy. Or the character. Or his matches. Or...a couple of the matches, but that's about it.

Scrooge McSuck - March 4, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
The Warrior:

Worst wrestler of his time.
Hated by almost everyone he's ever worked with.
Worst wrestler of his time.
Drew dick with extra stank on it as World Champion.
Worst wrestler of his time.
Wants nothing to do with WWE.
Worst wrestler of his time.

Nikolai Volkoff is a better case than the Warrior. At least he has that ugly ass red suit he's had for 20+ years.

You went too far with that. You really need to learn to seperate hate from reason.

UW was madly popular - NV was not

UW was World champ - NV was not

UW was Intercontinental champ - NV was not

UW had two memorable matches - NV had none

That's mostly my reasoning. He was too huge back in the day.

whitemilesdavis - March 4, 2005 07:53 PM (GMT)
And before it is even said... I HATE Ultimate Warrior.

As do I. Although hate is such a strong word. May be more of loath and detestment.

whitemilesdavis - March 4, 2005 08:11 PM (GMT)
In terms of wrestlers, I hate him. As far as a human being goes, I have no clue.

dynamite kido - March 4, 2005 08:21 PM (GMT)
Not arguing WMD......but I wanted to throw this out there.

Well as for the mid 80's Volkoff was a huge heel for the company. He had several matches with Hogan at the top of the card, and him and The Iran Sheik defeated two of the most popular WWF wrestlers at the time of Windham/Rotundo.

whitemilesdavis - March 4, 2005 08:24 PM (GMT)
His heat was NOWHERE near as big as UW's face pops. Not even in the same league...and I actually would rather watch Volkoff than Warrior. But on that one point, Warrior was way, way more over than Volkoff.

Scrooge McSuck - March 4, 2005 08:44 PM (GMT)
Warrior still sucked, and everyone still knows it. Just because a bunch of moronic 9 year olds cheered him, that means he should be regarded in the same breath as Bruno, Flair, Hogan, etc.?

Puh-fucking-lease... and no, Volkoff sucks too, but I'm just saying...

dynamite kido - March 4, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
Overness IMO doesn't equal hall of fame.

Granted, but who do you think cheered Hogan?

Scrooge McSuck - March 4, 2005 08:54 PM (GMT)
EVERYTHING... except idiot smarks who think they know the wrestlig bussiness. Old people, middle aged people, kids, retards, dogs, cats, monkeys, Vince McMahons bank account... EVERYTHING.

My parents: Whos the idiot shaking the ropes?
Me: The Ultimate Warrior
My parents: He must've flunked out of High School

I would. In kayfabe every WWF Champion should be in the Hall of Fame. And if you're putting mid-carders like Volkoff in then the Warrior should be in.

SamoaRowe - March 7, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
Would you really want Kevin Nash in the HOF? Or JBL?

Or Iron Sheik? :P

dynamite kido - March 7, 2005 02:58 AM (GMT)
I would argue the fact that every WWF champion should be in the hall of fame too. Now, keep in mind that I would argue with people that ALREADY are in it......but still. If it was my hall of fame there would be a whole different class in there than there already is.

whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2005 02:13 PM (GMT)
Just a quick question.. but why do you get offended if someone doesn't like your favorite wrestler? Seems a little silly, but I've seen it time and again with you.

Or he's 10 years old. I haven't decided yet......

whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2005 02:56 PM (GMT)
I think I remember him being 18 which is way to old for super-hero worship.

Well at least if he's over 18 we can charge him as an adult.

Or we can legally beat his ass.
