Title: So I'm D/Ling
Description: Pride/UFC stuff

Mad Dog - February 23, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
So the Ultimate Fighter has kind of peeked my interest in MMA stuff again. I used to watch UFC in the early days. So I expect to be really really lost style wise because I know it's a completely different game now. I think they were still doing tournaments on every show by the time I had moved on. I did watch a lot of K-1 when it was on ESPN2 as well.

So I'm downloading a bunch of Tito Ortiz stuff since it's easiest to find. Any suggestions on downloads or DVDs to look for?

Just for the record, Wal-Mart is now carrying the UFC DVD's, and they are cheap. ($11-$15)

Mad Dog - February 23, 2005 07:40 PM (GMT)
Nice, I might have to make a trip over there later this week and take a look.

whitemilesdavis - February 23, 2005 07:42 PM (GMT)
Yeah, my Wal-MArt has like 4 or 5 different DVD's. (Couple of PPV's and a couple of "Best Of" type comps. They are also carrying King of the Cage DVD's, which seem incredibly hit or miss to me.

Which company is King of the Cage produced by?

whitemilesdavis - February 23, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure who produces them, but the quality is good. The quality of fighter they have ranges greatly. I've got 5 or 6 of their events and a couple are really good, but a coulpl are total snoozers.

Ah,

see I remember in the early days there was some smaller shoot fight company that was really brutal and the media was trying to pin them on UFC when that whole uproar started in 97 or 98.

Mad Dog - February 23, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
So far I have:

Vitor Belfort beating the shit out of Tank Abbott in about a minute

Fedor beating the shit out of some loser in about 90 seconds

I should have Ortiz/Silva and Ortiz/Couture in about an hour.

whitemilesdavis - February 23, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
Nah, they're pretty much standard fare. Nothing too extreme. Of the other large companies, they most closely resemble UFC.

Ugh..... I ran across that Shamrock/Gracie fight where Shamrock just guards like a pussy the whole time.

I really didn't like Shamrock as a shoot fighter. He was painfully average.

Hahahah. Good times. King of the Cage is so cheap. (And with fairly good reason.) I bought a two DVD pack with something like 4 hours of matches on it for $5.50 at Wal-Mart.

Just to further my Shamrock bashing since I've seen some more of his fights after downloads.

He really had nothing of his career. It seems the only accomplishment he ever had was choking out Dan Severn at an early UFC show. He got a pretty nasty beatdown at the hands of Tito Ortiz and Don Frye kicked his ass pretty badly as well.

So was there any point that he did anything or was he just an average fighter?

I also think his bother Frank is better overall from what I've seen so far.

So this is the list of the various fights I've downloaded. The Wal Mart closest to me didn't have it but that Wal Mart is easily the worst one on the planet. A lot is K-1 and Pride stuff as well.

Chuck Lidell vs. Victor Belfort
Tito Ortiz vs. Evan Tanner
Ken Shamrock vs. Dan Severn
