Title: Rate A Wrestler Part 1
Description: Christian

Mad Dog - February 21, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
Ok this is to spark discussion mostly. Basically just use the typical A, B, C, D, F system for this. Grade them on the following:

Promo ability
Moveset
Finisher
Match Quality
Misc

Final Rating

Mad Dog - February 21, 2005 02:40 AM (GMT)
Promo Ability: B+

Good but not great promo guy. He's entertaining to listen to but he doesn't really make me want to pay to see him get his assed kicked. Also doesn't work as well by himself.

Moveset: C-

Has a tag team wrestlers moveset which leads to horrible singles matches. His matches as a rule bore me to tears and I usually check something else out unless he's with a Chris Benoit or Eddie Guerrero type. Also seems to have no chemistry whatsoever with anyone inring.

Finisher: n/a

I honestly have no clue as to what his finisher is anymore. If it's still the unprettier he'd probably get a B for it.

Match Quality: C

Good in tag matches, terrible in singles matches. He's just far too bland to pull off good matches without a tag partner to carry him. Tomko isn't the kind of guy to make him good again.

Misc: B-

Very solid heel that's below average in the ring. He's a smark favorite though I can honestly say I don't know why. There are several hated guys who are better than him in the ring.

Overall: B-

Scrooge McSuck - February 21, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
Promo ability: A-
He's pretty entertaining, and pulls off a good cocky heel, and can play the comedy role as well. As a babyface... well, we all know how bad he and Edge sucked in promos from late 1999 until the heel run in 2000 started.

Moveset: C+
He uses a lot of various back breakers and suplexes, but outside of that, he's got nothing.

Finisher: B
The Unprettier is a good finisher, but it's not a move that can come out of nowhere, so that hurts the rating.

Match Quality: C
He's probably the most painfully average wrestler in the WWE, and is the poster boy of the "WWE Style" that has come into effect over the last few years.

Misc: B
He always seems to get some good entrance music... and thats about it for Misc...

Final Rating: B
Overall, an average wrestler when it comes to his moveset and exciting the crowd (when hes not falling off 20 foot ladders), but can carry himself well as a heel when it comes to cutting promos. Plus he's one of the funnier heels in the WWE (him making fun of Ortons pose ruled).

Real F'n Show - February 21, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
Promo ability: A-
Christin's promo's have definately been his strong point. He's always been better than Edge in my opinion, and always seems to get his point across well, all the while managing to be hilarious.

Moveset: C+
He's added the reverse tornado DDT and Texas cloverleaf to his repertoire, but his moveset is still not that impressive. I do like his reverse DDT and inverted backbreaker, though. He should bring back his cool springboard plancha from the inside out.

Finisher: B+
The Unprettier, while not that impressive of a move, works perfect for Christian. Not too powerful, but it has some cool ways to be countered, as shown in his match against Orton recently. I like the name a lot.

Match Quality: C
He really needs to cut the restholds, add a few more moves to his moveset, and get a better grasp on psychology to improve here. He's carriable at least, but he's no Chris Benoit.

Misc: B
The entrance music rocks, along with his sweet entrance jacket and pants. His catchphrases have grown on me as well.

FINAL RATING: B-
I've always thought of Christian as a great talent to have on hand, and he's a pretty good heel who's gotten over pretty well. I don't know if I could buy him as a main eventer though, at least not for awhile. B- fits him well right now.

Scrooge McSuck - February 21, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
Real F'N Show basically gave out the same grades as me... great minds do think alike! :)

Real F'n Show - February 21, 2005 02:48 AM (GMT)
That is really weird. I honestly didn't even look at your post before I did mine (it wasn't there when I started typing mine). Odd.

Scrooge McSuck - February 21, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
Both were done at 9:45 according to the time with the posts... damn that is weird. (changes all grades to A+... oh wait, thats for Kane)

jamiegeist - February 21, 2005 04:23 AM (GMT)
Lets see. I'll just give solid letters, no + or -.

Promo ability - A - One of the best in WWE right now, hands down.
Moveset - B - Much better than most. At least with Christian I don't know what move is coming 30 seconds prior to it happening. (see: RVD)
Finisher - A - The unprettier looks lethal (smashing your face into the mat), has good impact. The only knock would be the awkwardness of twisting them into position, but it allows for good counters, so I forgive.
Match Quality - B - He tends to bring the goods everytime. Be nice if he was given more time or some direction once in a while.
Misc - Not sure what would go here. Age? He's young. Injury prone? Not especially. I'll give him an A.

Final Rating - B

Until he gets some real face time and some chances, he stays a B. Put him on smackdown so I don't have to see joke's like Hardcore Holly, Rene Dupree, Kenzo Suzuki. He'd make a great US Champ right now.

Christian

Promo ability - Well, IMO this is his strongest feature. When used correctly on the mic......he is one of the better promo guys they have. He was great with Edge years ago and still looks comfortable in doing them on Raw recently as well. Only problem is that his promo's are usually of a comedy type and he's not really good with the serious stuff (aka you won't draw a dime)......Grade: B-

Moveset - This is a lowpoint for him. It's always been and it's probably not even his fault because the WWE does tend to trim down people's movesets. But he doesn't have much offensive stuff, but he's passable. Grade: D-

Finisher - Well, it's not much. Not to mention that it has a terrible name as well. The unprettier was an alright move for him a few years ago......but wrestling has evolved....and his finisher needs to be changed. Grade:C

Match Quality - This category seems to be one of his strong points as well. He is usually one of the better in ring guys that RAW has and it's inevitable that he busts his ass in the ring. Grade:B+

Misc - He is a go to guy on RAW for the roster which can be a great asset to a company. He's always there to put over your main guys and can put on good matches with MOST of the roster......

Overall Grade: B-

SamoaRowe - February 21, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
Promo ability: A-

This has become Christian's strongest ability, his promos are usually so good I think "Wow, this guy should be main eventing" until he gets into the ring and reminds me why he is a career mid-carder.

Moveset: C+

Christian relies too heavily on rest holds and was doing this before it became customary in WWE. He is at his best when in tag team competition.

Finisher: B+

When Christian was first being pushed as a singles star in 2001, the Unprettier was made out to be a devastating finisher. No one kicked out of it and Christian could hit the move out of no where after being destroyed and still win.

Match Quality: C

Christian's matches have not been all that interesting for a couple of years now. I feel he isn't as motivated as he was back in 2001, when he was having good midcard matches. He is still a solid worker, but he is showing now signs of getting better.

Final Rating: B-

Christian is an entertaining character and belongs in WWE, but he is nothing special in the ring and his current position in the company is just fine.

Scrooge McSuck - February 21, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
Seems like the majority (or everyone) says around B-/B. Not bad for consistancy.

Wow, I just went and read the other ratings posted and I am shocked at how similar they were to mine. Scary coincidence or is Christian just a really easy topic?

prof_plague - February 22, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
Promo Ability - B
As a heel...a fun heel.

Moveset - B-/C+
Is better as a tag team wrestler, but passable, and not too shabby (although not great) as a singles wrestler.

Finisher - Solid B
There's something about that finish I like, It's not to spectatular looking, but it gets the job done.

Match Quality - B-
Has some good matches, but not as great as he was before.

Misc. - A
Everyone seems to mention the entrance here. But as an entrance, I dig. Some good stuff. His entrance when he broke away from Edge a few years ago stands as one of my favourite entrances of all time.

Final Rating - B

Big F'N Swigg - February 22, 2005 02:40 AM (GMT)
Promo Ability-B

He's good, but not great. He gets his point across, but he lacks the ability to keep you listening for the entire time.

Moveset-D

There's nothing in his moveset I haven't already seen. He's average. And that's about it.

Finisher-C

It's good, and like everyone says it opens up for some neat reversals, but he needs something fresh

Match quality-B-

He's easy to carry, and has a basic enough moveset that everyone knows what they're getting.

Misc-C

His entrance is good, but his tights have alwasy been lacking.

Overall-C+

He's very average, and doesn't bring much excitement to the table.

Benoit is God - February 22, 2005 07:44 AM (GMT)
If Christian's moveset deserves C-B ratings then Eddie Guerrero's must be a AAAAA+++.

I find Christian to be exceedingly bland in the ring.

Scrooge McSuck - February 22, 2005 01:21 PM (GMT)
C is average, and thats what I find Christian to be. Not too good, but not too bad. He just relies heavily on restholds.
