Title: March 23-29 News Recap
Description: HOF/WM, Abismo Negro, X Cup, Juvi, more

Jillie - March 31, 2009 08:54 PM (GMT)
March 23-29

WWE
You will be happy to know Kane’s real height is 6’7’’, and he wears lifts in his boots to make him look taller. You will also be happy to know that despite being billed as between 6’1’’ and 6’2’’, John Cena is actually only 6’0’’. (PW)
Jillie’s Note: Must have been a slow news day…

From the Did You Know files, Jennifer Hudson is engaged to WWE developmental’s David Otunga. Diva Tiffany is also dating Fresh Prince’s Carlton Banks (real name Alfonso Ribeiro) (PW)

In case you missed it, Gail Kim (finally) debuted last week on SmackDown and although she looked solid in the ring she didn’t get much of a reaction from the crowd. (PW)

Watch for Suckerpunch (starring Big Show), another Scorpian King sequel, and a Missing in Action remake to appear on movie shelves soon. They are the lastest WWE projects, going straight to DVD. (PW)

After being fictionally beat up by Chris Jericho on RAW, Ric Flair needed 11 staples in his head. (PW)

One of the major reasons the Iron Sheik book was axed because “there was no way for the book to be published without stories of Sheik’s craziness and drug use,” and that does not jive with the new PG rating. (PW)

Speaking of books, look for a Rey Mysterio biography and a DX history book soon. (PW)

I’ve come across this newsbit a handful of times over the last couple of weeks, and I’m tired of seeing it, so maybe if I include it in my recap it’ll go away. John Cena is the third highest consumer of water in Land O’Lakes, Florida, where he owns a mansion. Despite not having a family and never being home, he uses twice as much water as a family who does nothing to conserve water would. Oh, and the area is suffering a drought. (PW)

It looks like Flair will not be continuing to appear for the WWE after Wrestlemania. (PW)

Expect the Jeff vs Matt feud to end at WM. (PW)

You will be happy to know Chris Jericho will not be charged for allegedly punching a woman in the face in Victoria in February. (WV)

John Cena made an unofficial challenge to The Rock for WM26 while being interviewed by MTV.com. (PW, WV)

HALL OF FAME NEWS
* "Stone Cold" Steve Austin; Inducted by: TBA
* Ricky Steamboat; Inducted by: Ric Flair
* Bill Watts; Inducted by: Jim Ross
* The Funks: Terry & Dory Jr.; Inducted by: Dusty Rhodes
* Koko B. Ware; Inducted by: The Honky Tonk Man
* The Von Erich's; Inducted by: Michael Hayes
* Howard Finkel; Inducted by: Mean Gene Okerlund

QUOTE
Before he found out WWE makes this decision for you, Dory Funk Jr. called WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart and asked him if he could induct him into the Hall this year in Houston. Hart did accept the invitation but probably didn't believe he really would end up doing it.
(PW)

Koko B Ware being inducted is the fault of Brian Gewirtz. (PW)

Other names being thrown around were Ted DiBiase (who many believe will be inducted eventually anyway) and Sting (because many people didn’t even know he was working for TNA. He won’t get inducted until he is done with TNA). Also on the list were Honky Tonk Man, Jack Roberts, John Tenta, Paul Boesch, Bruiser Brod, One Man Gang, Big Bossman, Mil Mascaras, Stan Hansen and Tully Blanchard. (PW)

By the way, when Honky Tonk Man sees Ric Flair, he’s going to “whip” his “ass” for saying mean things in Flair’s book. Oh, and he’s also mad at Greg Valentine for no-showing a European tour where he was supposed to team with Honky Tonk Man. (PW)

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, Vince McMahon is expected to induct Steve Austin into the Hall Of Fame. This rumour is based on an advertisement on the USA Network that says “"Stone Cold" Steve Austin is inducted into the Hall of Fame by his arch-rival.” (WV)

Howard Finkel will be inducted by Mean Gene Okerland. (WV)

WRESTLEMANIA 25 NEWS
The confirmed card so far:
**WWE Champion Triple H vs Randy Orton
**World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs The Big Show vs John Cena
**WWE Intercontinental Champion JBL vs Rey Mysterio
**Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels (Undefeated Streak on the Line)
**Money in the Bank Match (CM Punk vs Kane vs Mark Henry vs Shelton Benjamin vs MVP vs Kofi Kingston vs Christian vs Finlay)
**25 Diva Battle Royal (Advertised Divas: Alicia Fox, Beth Phoenix, Brie Bella, Candice Michelle, Eve, Gail Kim, Jillian, Katie Lea, Kelly Kelly, Layla, Maria, WWE Divas Champion Maryse, WWE Women's Champion Melina, Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Natalya, Nikki Bella, Rosa Mendes, and Tiffany)
**Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy (Extreme Rules)
**Tag Team Championship Unification Lumberjack Match: Primo and Carlito vs Miz and Morrison
**Chris Jericho vs Jimmy Snuka, Ricky Steamboat and Roddy Piper with Ric Flair and Mickey Rourke.

Both Kid Rock and Nicole Scherzinger (of the Pussycat Dolls) will be performing at WM. (PW)

For what it’s worth, Lance Storm thinks Orton and Cena will win their respective matches at WM. All of his predictions can be read at stormwrestling.com. (PW)

TNA
Spike TV is happy about the steady increase in TNA’s ratings, feeling that “Sting’s star power [has] finally [made] an impact.” (PW)

If Sting keeps his TNA World Championship until April 19, his will be the longest reign as TNA champion, currently held by Samoa Joe. This World Title reign will also be the longest in Sting’s personal career, beating out his previous NWA Title Reign of 188 days in 1990-91. (PW)

Neither Roxxi nor Rhaka Khan was sent home by TNA management for the skirmish they had earlier this month. Both women were not scheduled to appear in part of the tapings so, as a part of new cost-saving measures, they were allowed to leave. (PW)

Traci Brooks would like you to know that her chest will be fine despite a hot 240 shell kicking back and falling down her shirt in Iraq while visiting soldiers. (PW)

Dixie Carter on WWE’s new rating:
QUOTE
…things such as the brutal beating of a sixty-year-old man, a vicious home invasion and gratuitous man-on-woman violence can be seen as reprehensible – and that’s just the last three Monday nights

Carter was responding to Vince’s concern that TNA is still TV-14, while WWE has changed with the times and gone PG. Carter also thought it was “wonderful that Vince watches TNA iMPACT.” (PW)

Look for Kurt Angle and Brother Ray on the cover of the new “Wrestler” magazine. (WV)

Samoa Joe’s new look was planned to make him a “bigger star than every before,” and in case you hadn’t notice, Joe put on some mass while on time off recently. (WV)

Rumour has it Kurt Angle was frustrated with Sting for not being able to perform the originally planned match a Destination X and for being “often out of position” during that match. (WV)

Don West’s heel character has been toned down as per instruction from top management. (WV)

TNA’s World X Cup tournament seems to be in jeopardy. TNA itself views working with international promotions to be a communication headache. There was apparently an agreement between CMLL and TNA that CMLL would hold the tournament and it would be aired on Impact later, but nothing further has been said about this deal, and CMLL has not been using TNA talent on recent PPVs. Some have suggested TNA work with AAA instead, but with the involvement of Konnan in AAA this sort of deal is unlikely. (WV)

Brutus Magnus is being backed heavily by Dixie Carter, explaining his push despite his green abilities in the ring. (WV)

LOCKDOWN CARD – April 19
**TNA World Champion Sting vs Mick Foley
**TNA World Tag Team Champions Beer Money, Inc vs IWGP Heavyweight World Tag Team Champions Team 3D (Off the Wagon)
**Team Angle (Main Event Mafia) vs Team Joe (Lethal Lockdown)
**Danny Bonaduce vs Eric Young

ROH
TNA talent are no longer allowed to work ROH events. (WV)

Nigel McGuinness will be working through two torn biceps at ROH shows during WM weekend in Texas. (WV)

Necro Butcher cut his foot on an ROH sign at that promotion’s 7th Anniversary show in New York. (WV)

Bobby Dempsy is working through an injured wrist. (WV)

OTHER
If you haven’t heard, AAA’s Abismo Negro was found dead in a river in El Rosario, Mexico on Sunday, March 22. He was 37. (WV)
The official cause of death was drowning. (G)
Abismo Negro’s funeral, held on Wednesday, March 25, was paid for by AAA and was covered by major Mexican media. He was cremated and he will be interred in his hometown of Villahermosa, Tabasco. (G)
On a sad note, those who knew him said Abismo’s drug habit had grown out of control over the past several years, to the point where he would wrestle for drugs or spend all his money on them. (G)
It has been theorized that drugs contributed to Abismo’s death – he was on a bus to Mexico City when he demanded to be let off after becoming agitated. He apparently got lost and drowned in the river where he was found. (WV)

Here’s an interesting story for you: Once upon a time Juventud Guerrera found poop in his bag. He took the bag to the owners of AAA, for whom he was wrestling his second show so far, and blamed Konnan for the poop. Jack Evans, who “had been stiffing [Guerrera] in [their] match earlier in the night,” grabbed Guerrera from behind and started booting him in the face while Konnan held Guerrera down. The moral of the story is that Juventud Guerrera has a broken “noise,” which I can only assume means his nose is broken. Good thing, too, cause otherwise he’d notice the stinky poop in his bag. According to Guerrera he still has his “integrity and pride” somehow. (PW)
Guerrera’s father, Fuerza Guerrera, told the Mexican press that Jack Evans and Konnan should be deported or jailed over the incident, and Hijo del Cien said “all Mexicans should stick together and stop "uneducated foreigners" (meaning Evans) behaving like an animal” (G)

In case you haven’t heard, Jonny Cafarella, who was the ring announcer for GLOW and worked with WOW, is now heading a promotion called “Wrestlicious,” which is an all-female promotion. From all indications, the talent involved in the promotion is great and the wrestling is good, but the characters presented are purposefully silly. Talent included in an August 2008 tape that is being circulated to advertise for the promotion are Daffney (who has since signed at TNA deal), Amber O'Neal, Lizzie Valentine, Christie Ricci, Becky Bayless, Lacey Von Erich, Daizee Haze, Portia Perez, Lexie Fyfe, Serena Deeb, and Danya. The promotion was funded by the youngest Powerball winner in history, 19 year old Jonathon Vargas, who will appear on the show as JV Rich. He won $35 million in 2008 and immediately put the money toward achieving his dream of “being involved in the wrestling business”. (WV)

The Wrestlicious website is http://wrestlicious.com, and event info can be found at http://prowrestlingevents.tk or http://prowrestlingevents.webs.com (WV)

Shane Douglas will be holding a “final ECW reunion show” in November according to an announcement he made at an ECW reunion convention on Saturday. The show will be held at the ECW Arena in Philadelphia and will be called “November to Remember.” (WV)

Look for Roddy Piper in the direct-to-DVD horror film called A Gothic Tale. (G)

You know, I've often fantasized about winning the lottery and using my prize to start a wrestling fed. And that 19 year old bastard did it. My hat goes off to him. I think.

You know, I've often fantasized about winning the lottery and using my prize to start a wrestling fed. And that 19 year old bastard did it. My hat goes off to him. I think.

Not only did he start a wrestling promotion, he started an ALL FEMALE wrestling promotion. It's like the 19 year old male's wet-dream come true.

Isn't it?

JimBob Skeeter - April 1, 2009 05:38 PM (GMT)
Or a 40 year old male's.
