Live from Caeser's palace in Las Vegas: Headlined by Hogan/Savage vs Giant/Flair and the Wedding of the year: Col. Parker and Sister Sherri
Starts off with clips of Savage beating Flair for the WCW title and Savage mad at Hogan for celebrating his title win. Also clips of Luger/Sting winning the tag titles from Harlem Heat when Luger had some silver dollars in his hand and knocked out Booker. Also clips of Flyin Brian going crazy and the intro to the Clash. The show is hosted by Tony and The brain as they go over the card. Bobby spills the big announcement they have been pushing for weeks: Miss Liz is in WCW and so is Kevin Greene.
Mean Gene is at the Little White Chapel for the wedding.
1. Public Enemy vs The Nasty Boys
- A video for Public Enemy airs. I forgot when PE first came to WCW they were heels. This match starts off as a total brawl with all 4 men going after each other. Saggs brings in a table and business is about to pick up. Nasties set up the table and it's a DQ. Rocco Rock moonsalts Knobbs through the table but it doesn't break. Saggs takes a big thing of the table and smashes it over Johnny's back and it lands in the crowd. Saggs then THROWS THE TABLE AT JOHNNy. That was insane.
Winner: Double DQ
Eric Bischoff interviews Ric Flair and Giant. Flair says the Title loss meant nothing. Nice way to make the title important there, Naitch. It's weird hearing Giant talk cause it sounds like he's taking a crap everytime he talks. They say they will destroy Savage and Hogan.
2. Dean Malenko vs Alex Wright
- Rematch from Saturday Night with clips shown from the event. They start off with the usual good mat work and Alex Wright dropkicks. You forget sometimes how good Alex used to be. Dean takes out Alex's leg and wins with a roll up. Good match
Winner: Dean Malenko
3. Kevin Sullivan vs Disco Inferno
- A fake Elvis comes out instead of Disco. Sullivan is pissed. Elvis says Disco's at the wedding and won't be there. Sullivan kills Elvis.
Mean Gene meets the Guests: Bunkhouse Buck and Dick Slater. Buck is just awesome.
Eric Bischoff interviews Sting and Lex Luger. The ROAD WARRIORS come out. Sting greets them while Luger doesn't care. The Warriors want a title shot. Sting says OK but Luger isn't too sure.
Interview with Paul orndorff. He got injured by the Horsemen and clips of Gary Spivey helping Paul out and him being on a roll are shown. Orndorff talks about him beating up Vader but doesn't mention him by name. Just calls him a "450 pound Gorilla". Clips shown of the Horsemen injuring Paul.
Back to the Chapel, Col. Parker shows up. He can't pay for the cab and has to borrow money from Mean Gene.
4. Brian Pillman vs Eddie Guerrero.
- This is the famous match where Pillman scares Heenan and Heenan cusses on air. I guess WCW knew Pillman might leave cause the announcer contines to bury him saying the Horsemen have "gone downhill". Pillman wins with a Crossbody in a OK match.
Winner: Brian Pillman
Eric Bischoff interviews Hogan/Savage and Kevin Greene. OH YEAH!!
5. Sting/Luger vs The Blue Bloods
- Regal has the best facial expressions ever. Eaton takes a sick backdrop to the concrete. Tony mentions Sting and Luger own a gym together. Had no idea about that. Sting wins with the Scropian.
Back at the Chapel, Sherri and harlem Heat show up. Sherri is drunk as hell and Col. is broke so they have to go to the drive thru.
Eric Bischoff interviews Brian Pillman: Pillman threatens to say the 7 dirty words. Pillman talks about respect.
6. Konnan vs Psicosis
- Debuts for both as Konnan defends his Mexican title. Psicosis tries but Konnan is just so boring and horrible. Konnan wins with the Ziplock(Tequila Sunrise).
Winner: Konnan
Back at the Chapel, The wedding is about to start. Sherri is in a nice red Dress and Mean Gene walks her down the drive thru. Disco shows up and dances. Dick Slater sheds a tear. Mean Gene starts to laugh and Madusa shows up and it's a fight. Booker starts laughing and that ends the segment.
7. Hogan/Savage vs Giant/Flair:
- Lots of ladies come out with Liz and Hogan/Savage including Linda Hogan. Kevin Greene comes in the ring and pushes Flair. Flair beats Savage with some Knux. Kevin and Hogan clean house on the heels.
Winners: Giant/Flair
Overall: Kind of a boring clash except for the Wedding and Heenan saying the F word.
Wasn't this around January 20, 1996, or so? I think it was right before the Super Bowl and the Steelers' Kevin Greene got a lot of flack for hopping over to Vegas to show up on the Clash (Steelers were set to play the Cowboys in Super Bowl 30 in Phoenix).
Yeah it was the 23rd and they were plugging the Super Bowl hard. I'm shocked they even let Kevin get psychical with Flair in the main event. And not just then but he also threw out Brian Pillman and the Zodiac from the ring.
I forgot that TNT was still doing Sunday night NFL games for the first half of the season, back then. Even though they stopped showing games around late October, they still ran an NFL recap show throughout the season.
Getting Greene to show up was sort of a crossover between their two highest-rated shows (Nitro and "NFL on TNT"...which, was originally called "Nitro", BTW).
Oh, and for some reason, I remembered One Man Gang being on this show.
