Description: who's ordering?
dynamite kido - December 10, 2004 06:33 PM (GMT)
Watching SD last night had me thinking.............who actually is going to order this PPV?
Honestly, it looked like one of their worst lineups in sometime. What do you guys think?
Mad Dog - December 11, 2004 12:50 AM (GMT)
WWF PPVs have just been an utter trainwreck lately. I wonder if JBL's title reign is going to finally get the mercy killing it's needed for the last several months. I don't understand why they put the belt on him for 6 months if they never had an intention of giving him meaningful wins.
Real F'n Show - December 11, 2004 12:56 AM (GMT)
They're having too many goddamn PPVs, no one in their right mind is going to order all of them, especially if they're as shitty as this. Count me out. I usually only watch Rumble, Mania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series, unless one of the others has a decent card. This does not.
Mad Dog - December 11, 2004 01:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah, $35 is just a complete ripoff for what's essentially a glorified house show with a lot of the recent PPVs.
Scrooge McSuck - December 11, 2004 03:27 AM (GMT)
I don't have the cable access for PPV, but even if I did, I'd demand WWE pay ME $35 for watching this crap. When FUNAKI is challenging for a title on a PPV, you know not much thought has been put into it.
Real F'n Show - December 11, 2004 03:59 AM (GMT)
What's wrong with Funaki? Sure he's no Paul London, but I find him very entertaining in the ring. Plus he's 36, so he deserves some sort of big match for bumping his ass off all these years. He could be retiring within the next few years.
Scrooge McSuck - December 11, 2004 04:02 AM (GMT)
I like him... but he's been jobbed out for 4 years. That's like putting Gillberg on PPV.

Exactly, Funaki getting a title shot is nice and all, but it won't mean much in the long-term scheme of things. The shot really should have gone to Paul London or Chavo Guerrero.
Scrooge McSuck - December 11, 2004 04:10 AM (GMT)
Give it to Kidman. The guy is booked with the best finishing move of the Cruiserweights, and having him try and hurt Spike with it would be cool.
Mad Dog - December 11, 2004 04:40 AM (GMT)
I think the no.1 problem with the division is that it's on Spike Dudley for starters. He has no business in the cruiserweight division as he's slow and just wrestles like a mini heavyweight.

Thus the reason why he's had the title for so long. That's how the WWE thinks cruisers should work...........unfortunately.

Meltzer's Match-by-Match Coverage:
We're looking for your thoughts on tonight's show, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to dave@wrestlingobserver.com
Welcome to our live coverage of the Armageddon PPV from the new Arena at the Gwynette Center in Duluth, GA.
Chavo Guerrero & Paul London vs. Akio & Billy Kidman is the Heat match, and if it's given any time, it could be the best match of the night. Akio pinned Chavo with a spin kick. Very good first match. Don't be surprised to see Chavo do a turn soon.
They are doing a no DQ match in the main event. They are pushing JBL very hard as the underdog, as they are doing with Funaki. Usually they use reverse psychology.
They are opening with RVD & Mysterio vs. Suzuki & Dupree for the tag titles. Van Dam pinned Dupreee with the frog splash after a 619. Long match. Good opener, but some rough spots.
Kurt Angle beat Santa Claus with an ankle lock. Angle was hilarious here. It was really just a promo and Angle said Tazz needed to go to the North Pole with the rest of the elves and said that Santa Claus gives real heroes a bad name because he's fat and out of shape.
Daniel Puder vs. Mike Mizanin is up next. Snow said Miz won the round. I think Puder but it was close. Both gassed out already. Definitely a moral win for Miz at this point. Puder won the second round. Miz would have been dropped if the round was 30 seconds longer. Both are gassed like crazy but Miz is more gassed. It went the distance. Very close. They are letting the fans vote. Puder got way more cheers. Dumb way to decide it.
Bashams vs. Holly & Haas is up now is an unadvertised match. Crowd crapped on the match even though the wrestling was crisp. Holly was pinned when Dawn Marie and Jackie ran out and Haas was between them. Holly was distracted, the Bashams did a switch and Danny pinned Holly.
Cena vs. Jesus for the U.S. title is next. A total one-sided squash. Jesus didn't get one offensive move in, probably because they knew he was hurt. Cena just beat him up with weapons like a kendo stick, garbage can lid, and a sign. Jesus juiced as well. Cena also KO'd Carlito with a chain shot after the back. You can see they are starting to push all the way to the top for Cena here.
Dawn Marie vs. Jackie is up next. They sure seemed to be telegraphing an angle beforehand. Dawn pinned Jackie using the tights right in front of Charlie. Charlie then admitted he was having an affair, called off the engagement, pretended to ask Dawn to marry him but then called Dawn a slut and said he'd never marry either of them. Match wasn't important, but it did suck.
Big Show vs. Team Angle is next. Big Show and Joy Giovanni are continuing their affair. Somebody needs to save this show. It's really bad at this point. Well, this wasn't the match to save the show. Very bad match, only thing notable was Show using an F-5 on Jindrak for the pin. I guess that's either meaning Lesnar is coming back, or they are sticking it in Lesnar's face. I'd guess the former.
Spike vs. Funaki for the cruiserweight title is next. Funaki won after a botched finish. They were telegraphing it the whole show. Funniest line was when talking about the next show, Michael Cole said Raw is going to have to do a lot to top what we've had here at Armageddon. The two guys worked hard but the crowd hated this. No heat, and even some booing when they'd kick out of the near falls.
We've only got the four-way left for the title with Undertaker, Booker, Eddie and JBL. I'm sure we'll have tons of blood, ref bumps, visionary falls. Whether that's enough to save this show, well, time will tell.
All of JBL's cabinet were in tears trying to act as if there was no way he could win the match. Well, they could always do the 80s Santa Claus finish. It wasn't Santa, it was Heidenreich. It actually would have worked better had he been dressed like Santa first. Everyone was laid out and Undertaker had it won when Heidenreich interfered. It ended up with Heidenreich getting Undertaker in the cobra clutch (which Cole didn't know, and it was a key point of the match, which isn't Cole's fault because he should have been clued in on that, he duidn't know it was a finisher to sell and Tazz saved, which was the story of the announcing. JBL pinned Booker clean with a clothesline. If it wasn't for Guerrero, the match would have been really bad, but Guerrero worked for several men tonight. Was it enough to save the show? I don't think so.

Shit forgot to watch Heat, sounds like I missed a hell of a match too, dammit.
Scrooge McSuck - December 13, 2004 02:10 AM (GMT)
People need to watch Heat & Velocity more. They have some good shit sometimes.
Mad Dog - December 13, 2004 02:13 AM (GMT)
I always forget those shows are on honestly. I run into Velocity sometimes but they're always doing recaps of something.
dynamite kido - December 13, 2004 03:36 AM (GMT)
I wish I would have watched HEAT tonight as well.....thank GOD I didn't order the PPV though, it sounds terrible.
Scrooge McSuck - December 13, 2004 03:38 AM (GMT)
I make sure to watch at least Velocity every week. Only place you can see the REAL Cruiserweights... except when Spike Dudley wrestles on it.
Big F'N Swigg - December 13, 2004 03:12 PM (GMT)
My God, Impact sounded better than this.
Mad Dog - December 13, 2004 06:34 PM (GMT)
I can't believe that they continue to keep the title on JBL. They could at least make him credible if they're going to go for such a long term reign.
dynamite kido - December 13, 2004 06:52 PM (GMT)
I would even admit to the fact that he IS growing on me as champion, but he's been booked downright terrible with it though. They apparently don't realize that a champion isn't credible because he holds a title for long. Honky Tonk Man is the longest reigning IC champion of all time, but I don't think anyone would classify him as credible.
Mad Dog - December 13, 2004 06:54 PM (GMT)
I don't like him and don't think he should be champion but if they're going to give the guy a long term title run then they need to do it right.

I think that they could have gone about it a different way and he could have been a decent champion eventually. Like if they would have made him midcard, I think his gimmick would have gotten him a hell of a lot of heat. He could have been built up to his position and then finally got the belt after a while. But they went the instachampion route and threw the title on them because they thought Eddie was having a breakdown. Also, since they put the title on him he hasn't cleanly defeated ANYONE that is worth a damn......
