Title: RICKEY HENDERSON, HALL OF FAMER

Damn straight, Rickey made it in first ballot with 95% of the vote.

It cracks me up to hear all these sporting types singing his praises. It used to be "Rickey Henderson is egotistical. He speaks in third person, he charges for autographs" and now it's "That's just Rickey being Rickey."

Oh yeah, Jim Rice made it in too. His final chance on the ballot.

I'm happy he got in. My only question is why he didn't get a higher percentage in getting voted in.

"Today, Rickey the greatest" - Rickey Henderson

Screw Jim Rice.... Hall of Pretty Good, not Fame. But at least now I can move a few of those 5 cent Jim Rice baseball cards from the late 80's I have sitting around. They had some stat saying he had the most RBIs and HRs from 1978 to 1983. More proof that it's possible to make anyone look good with selective stats. So I'm expecting Dennis Martinez and Jay Buhner to get into the Hall of Fame, soon.

Also need to mention that Yankees 1940's oldster 2B Joe Gordon got in. Something the YES network will spend 6 hours a day detailing until March.

Although I'm no Sox fan, I think Rice deserved to get in. The guy was an 8 time all star in a period in baseball with some GREAT hitters.

I'm sure guys like Dave Parker and Joe Carter are THRILLED that Rice got in.

I was actually chuckling to myself a bit today when I read who a Pittsburgh Post Gazette writer voted for. Parker of course was included.

Speaking of Henderson & Rice, they were on the Late Show with Dave Letterman, recently to do the Late Show Top 10.

QUOTE

SCOTTSDALE, AZ—All-time stolen base leader Rickey Henderson told Baseball Hall of Fame officials Monday that he would only join Cooperstown's most prestigious club if he could start in left field and bat leadoff. "Man, Rickey's still got it, and it would be disrespectful to myself and my family if I entered a situation where I was playing backup to [former left fielders] Stan Musial or Ted Williams," Henderson said during the hour-long telephone negotiation, adding, "What are those guys, like, 50? Rickey does not ride the pine. Rickey plays. You think Lou Brock can run like me? Please. Goodbye." Henderson later told reporters that he would also be willing to enter the Hall of Fame in Japan, if necessary, and play his remaining years there.
