Title: State of 'Da Board Address
Description: October 26, 2008.

Metrodome - October 27, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
Evening, guys. The usual dull Sunday I see. No Sunday Night Football and a blowout of a World Series game has led me to this. Haven't done one of these in awhile.

*I've been considering some somewhat drastic mergers involving folders. Particularly the top 4 wrestling folders all becoming one big "Wrestling" folder. I think Rowe suggested this awhile ago and I'm interested on thoughts.

*Since DWB:NWA is dead, but I know some of you still like to have it around to read, it may just end up becoming a subfolder of the Fantasy Booking folder.

*The site is going strong. Thanks to Erick Von Erich for maintaining it, and everyone who submits anything for keeping it going. Good work.

*Also, thanks to everyone participating in the DWB Movie Club. I'm sure eventually it will die out but for the time being it has been interesting. Any other suggestions to spike interest in this board are always welcome and encouraged.

*Another congrats to The Swigg Lebowski on his DWB Title win. Bringing the belt back was yet another cheap tactic to spark interest in the board, but it will always produce amusing match-ups and threads.

*Sports could use a kick in the pants, but we haven't really tailed off too badly in any one folder. Music could always be better but the Music Video of the Day Thread and SHUFFLE ALL threads still move every once in awhile.

*I miss Scrooge.

Thoughts? Post them here or direct a PM or telegraph to myself, Erick Von Erich, or dynamite kido.

Board needs more cowbell.

That is all.

I'm not really keen on merging all the wrestling folders, but I wouldn't be shocked if it happened.

I'm trying to contribute, but I'm fairly pooped on wrestling right now. Raw, while having been exciting, is back to it's boring self. Smackdown isn't doing well either. TNA just got my attention with the Foley thing, but I'm sure that won't last long, and ROH is obviously struggling.

The only real fun I get from wrestling has to do with my refereeing/announcing for my local indy.

And man do I miss having Scrooge around

SamoaRowe - October 27, 2008 07:57 PM (GMT)
I'm also going to suggest that we cut down on the "mega threads" in the wrestling section. By that, I mean I've come to learn that having a bunch of "OAO" threads actually hurts board activity. I'm getting to a point where I'd rather have a bunch of threads, even if there is only a couple of posts in each one. Any thoughts on that?

This place needs more chicks.

Actually, I take that back. If there were more chicks I'd have to compete for attention.

Anyway, I'd love a Literature thread, but only if people are going to discuss literature with me.

Also, one thing we used to do at one board I was at (was it GStorm? Can't remember...) is have topics about "controversial" subjects where we all debated, like topics relating to religion, politics, and somesuch. It was great fun, until the immature bastards started getting angry when others differed with their opinions. That aside, it was a great way to stir up the shit, create interest, and learn a little more about the people on the board. I think, as everyone here seems fairly intelligent and mostly mature, it would go over really well. We could have a different topic every month or whatever. Anyway, that's my idea.

Sorry for the double post, but, I really like the OAO "Your Fired/Suspended" threads. I also like the OAO threads for the weekly wrestling shows. It's easy to get the pertinent news that way without sifting through old threads and whatnot.

Also, another thing I was thinking...

Would anyone be interested (or have the time to create) a daily or bi-daily rundown of the wrestling world news? I might be able to do it every other day, but it would be biased toward the one or two wrestling news sites I visit.

Erick Von Erich - October 28, 2008 03:46 AM (GMT)
I'd be interested in "Daily Rasslin' News"....only because I don't visit any wrestling sites and have no real idea what's going on, now

I think it'd be a good idea to cut down on "Comments That Don't Warrant a Thread" in all forums. I've seen topics in those that really WERE worth a thread. Posting a Cyber Sunday preview is a good example of something that should've been its own topic.

Dont' be lazy. Make separate topics... even if they only get a few (or no) replies. Use your judgement, though. A topic like: "Katie Lea Burchill seen at Buffalo Wild Wings" would be insanely stupid. That'd be similar to the pop-up news sites like Lords of Pain and all that other garbage (one of the reasons I don't visit wrestling sites).

I always loved doing the news recaps, but never had time. I now don't really have a life, so I can start them. Where should I post it, seeing as how it'll include WWE, TNA and other wrestling news all in one? Also, what are some other news sites that you guys use so my reports aren't so biased? I currently check wrestleview.com, gerweck.net and I am familiar with pwinsider.com. Any other reputable sources I should be using? Or not using?

Within the next few days there will only be one main wrestling folder. You can post it there. Unless anyone is adamantly opposed to this decision I will go ahead with it.

Also...I think we had a literature thread once upon a time...just a thread, but i don't think a folder would hold enough interest, no offense.

Thanks for the feedback, people.

A-ha. Made it to 7 pages and was active as recently as July.

Will you be moving "wrestling" as one folder under "other stuff"?

With only one wrestling folder, it will make the boad look disproportionate. That is, we'll have ONE section for everything to do with wrestling.... then 12 or 13 for things that aren't wrestling. In other words, we'll lose the gimmick of this board.

Also, I'll need to re-do the layout on that forum block on the main site. Then go back and re-code every link to every topic on Da' Board from Da' Site.

So I'd say "no". Merge "Indy and International" and/or "Reviews" into "General Wrestling" if you need to pare things down.

Jillie - October 28, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
I agree with EVE. This is dawrestlingboard, after all. It would look silly to have one wrestling folder.

Anyway, for now howsabout I put my news recap in the Reviews and Columns section?

I think that's fine. Pumps up the "Columns" aspect of that category.

Metrodome - October 29, 2008 03:56 AM (GMT)
Alright, I won't change anything then. Other than putting DWB:NWA as a subfolder for Fantasy Booking. Thanks for your opinions.

SamoaRowe - October 29, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Humble question: if the admins would be okay with it (and assuming that Mad Dog doesn't really mind at this point) would it be okay if I got a shot at modding the WWE folder? Just see how it works out for a month or two and if folks don't like what I'm doing, we can change it?

Metrodome - October 29, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
I'd check with him first, but it's fine by me.

Scrooge McSuck - November 6, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
I vote for no merge. It'll create a mess to have all the random topics morphed into one folder, not having any way to filter out each section.
