TOP KNOCKOUT GONE FROM TNA
by Mike Johnson @ 10:33 PM on 8/20/2008

Gail Kim, who the entire TNA Knockouts division was initially built around and was the first Knockouts champion, is gone from TNA. I don't have details regarding the departure yet, but TNA did remove Kim from their roster and Knockouts sections this evening. One source commented, "It means exactly what you think it means."

Kim, a former WWE Women's champion, had been with the company since October 2005, originally as a valet for Jeff Jarrett and America's Most Wanted. Kim graduated into the top babyface for the Knockouts division, including a really good feud against Awesome Kong.

In recent months, she had been among the top of the babyface Knockouts alongside ODB, Roxxi and current champion Taylor Wilde, but had not been portrayed as the top female in the division.

That's a shame. The Knockouts division is one of the only things that still makes me want to watch TNA and Kim was a big part of that.

- According to sources in WWE, Gail Kim will be heading back to the company for what is being described as a "sizable offer." Kim's TNA contract was coming to an end, and when it does she will be free to begin with WWE. The decision was said to be based purely on the financial offer, and nothing to do with animosity between her and TNA. Word from TNA sources state that Gail has left on good terms, and that the door is open for a future return. Gail Kim's final appearance with the company will be tonight on Impact, facing Awesome Kong in a Street Fight.

Also, my interest in tonight's Impact just doubled.

That is one BAAAD career move for Gail Kim. I can't even imagine why she would want to go back to the WWE, money or no money. Has she watched the WWE lately? TNA's Knockout division is at least ligit, unlike the joke that are the Diva's. But I guess she has the same opinion as Nattie Neidhart (who also is WAY too good to be working for the WWE), who once proclaimed that if you want to make it big in the business and if you want to make the moolah, you have to do what you have to to get hired by Vince McMahon. Still, I think Gail Kim is going to be returning to TNA before long.

As long as she doesn't walk into WWE acting like she's "accomplished something in wrestling" she'll probably do fine this time around. She can potentially have some good performances with Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Natalya, or even with Melina or Jillian.

Let's be honest here, it's really not hard to figure out. How many women have made careers for themselves outside of wrestling through the WWE? How many women have done so outside through other wrestling companies? Exactly. She'll go there, collect her money, and come back to TNA when creative has nothing left for her.

In that case, it'll be nice seeing Kim back in TNA in about four months ;).

I'd say six to a year is more than likely.

Well, you got the 90 day no-compete.

Yeah, I can agree with that. My thing is I wish there were more women out there that were interested in advancing women in wrestling rather than collecting their paycheques. Don't get me wrong, Gail Kim has done a wonderful thing for women in this industry with her great performances over the last while in TNA. I guess in the end, when she ends up leaving WWE, she will probably bring with her fans that would not have otherwise watched TNA.

And what do I know? Maybe WWE has changed in regards to their Divas. I haven't watched WWE programming in some time now. Still, when you mention that Kim could pull off great matches with some of the women in the WWE I can't help but think "Yeah, I bet she could...if the WWE let them actually wrestle."

Anyway, that being said, does anyone know if any of the other North American promotions besides TNA has a respectable women's division?

dynamite kido - August 22, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Jillie, I DO agree with you. Unfortunately the thought process of fans and professionals is completely different. Basically these people have a short shelf life type careers. They have to make as much money as they can while they can. Plus, to fans it's just a pipe dream anyways. We of course are the only people that constantly argue the merits of a "fake" sport. Bottom line is most of the people in the indistry don't care if they are ever anything unless it can make them money. The rare chance that they think differently is a different type of breed. Those guys are ones like Bret Hart, Chris Benoit, and Eddy Guerrero. Not to say that it's all bad, but look how two of the three ended up. Sad really....

I was answering the question as to where in North America was there a good women's territory. Trust me, I'm not suggesting that SHIMMER is the place to go to make your fortunes, but it's a great place to start (especially how so much of the roster has gone on to WWE or TNA, or at least had try-outs). They are also very successful on the indy scale.

Honestly I think SHIMMER would work better for people coming up and obviously not Gail Kim. Not that Kim couldn't wrestle there or anything but it would be silly of them to bring her in considering her asking price would have been high anyways.

I'm sure there would have been a few people there that she could've worked well with.

Am I the only one surprised that the WWE made her such a sweet deal? Doesn't make much sense IMO.

With Candice Michelle returning to Raw tonight, I'm under the state of mind that Gail Kim is headed to Smackdown.
