Title: What was the best thing in wrestling...
Description: you've seen live?

dynamite kido - February 4, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
I thought this could be a cool thread....

What was the best/coolest/most historic thing you've seen live in wrestling?

whitemilesdavis - February 4, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
The most historic thing I saw, and keep in mind I was a litte kid, was the R&R express win the NWA World tag titles from Ivan Koloff and Krusher Krushchev in Shelby, NC. I think it was R&R's first reign as world champs.

Scrooge McSuck - February 4, 2005 09:54 PM (GMT)
Hmm... the only show I went to that meant anything was No Mercy 2000. Angle won his first World Title, Austin made his in-ring return, and NAKED Mideon. (shudders)

prof_plague - February 4, 2005 10:31 PM (GMT)
I was at the first televised WWE show in NH back in 1997. Nothing too, too interesting happened that I remember. Minus the Rock/Austin fued when Austin throw the IC title into a river. Oh, and Steve Austin beat-up Santa. And I remember for marking big time for Dude Love. And Steve Blackman was still new to the roster.
Oh, and Hardy Boyz were jobbers.

Brian Christopher defeated Barry Houston
The Undertaker defeated Triple H in a casket match

Shotgun - 12/20/97:
Vader defeated Marc Mero via disqualification after Mero hit a low blow
The Headbangers defeated Henry & Phinneas Godwinn after Henry accidentally hit Phinneas with the slop bucket
Kurrgan defeated Matt & Jeff Hardy in a handicap match
Doug Furnas & Phil LaFon defeated Scott Taylor & Flash Funk when Furnas pinned Taylor after a release German suplex

Raw is War - 12/15/97 - included Steve Austin tossing the Intercontinental title belt, stolen from the Rock during the previous Raw, into a river as the Rock and the Nation watched on from inside the ring.
WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Taka Michinoku defeated Jerry Lawler via disqualification in a non-title match
Dude Love defeated WWF Tag Team Champion the Road Dogg; this was the first time tag champions were referred to as the the Road Dogg & Billy Gunn
Mark Henry defeated the Brooklyn Brawler
Tom Brandi pinned the Sultan
Steve Blackman defeated Jose Estrada Jr.
The Legion of Doom defeated WWF World & European Champion Shawn Michaels & Triple H (w/ Chyna) via disqualification at around 10:15 when Chyna interfered and hit a low blow on Road Warrior Animal as Animal was double teaming DX, while at the same time the Road Dogg & Billy Gunn had come ringside and were attacking Road Warrior Hawk on the floor, eventually knocking him out with chloroform; after the bout, the New Age Outlaws shaved one of Hawk's two mohawks and moments later all four men, along with Chyna, assisted in powerbombing Animal off the apron through the announce table; inside the ring, Gunn hit a top rope legdrop on Hawk before Michaels hit the elbowdrop off the top; after DX and the Outlaws left the ring, the LOD were attended to by officials, among them Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson (The Monday Night War DVD)

Real F'n Show - February 4, 2005 11:01 PM (GMT)
I saw Lance Storm's last ever match in ECW, which is somewhat historic. Other than that, pretty much nothing...

TehDoct0r - February 5, 2005 12:39 AM (GMT)
I saw HBK hit Taker with the chair during his match with Bret, which eventually led to the formation of DX and the Montreal Screwjob.

I saw Foley, Steamboat, and Liger debut in RoH.

I've seen every RoH Title change.

I saw HBK vs HHH in HBKs comeback match.

I saw Brock win his first title.

I saw the first Scramble Cage.

Those are the only things of note.

Big F'N Swigg - February 5, 2005 12:57 AM (GMT)
I saw Scott Steiner turn on Buff Bagwell.

And I also saw a Foley/Steamboat confrontation.

MillenniumMan831 - February 5, 2005 03:09 AM (GMT)
The coolest match I've ever seen live is definitely the Hardiez/E&C ladder match at No Mercy 1999. At the time, I've never seen anything like that let alone seeing it in person. Awesome experience that made the night for everyone.

2nd is having myself and 20,000 other Clevelanders give Rob Van Dam the ECWish welcome he deserved at InVasion.

dynamite kido - February 5, 2005 06:52 AM (GMT)
My list....

I witnessed the Foley bump at King of the Ring 98.

I saw Angle become the first ever WWF contracted wrestler to win the WCW Title from Booker T.

I saw Angle defeat Austin for the WWF Title at Unforgiven 01.

Attended Summerslam 95 and saw the second Razor/HBK Ladder match.

Saw Samoa Joe's first ROH Title Defense (RRCII)

Saw Samoa Joe's first anniversary as ROH Champion match (vs. Jay Briscoe - At Our Best)

Attended RAW where the Patriot pinned Bret Hart.

Saw first ever live 60 minute ironman match (Benoit vs. HHH from July 04)

Witnessed the Original Midnight Express win their first tag title in over 20 years (IWC's Call to Arms II)

Big F'N Swigg - February 6, 2005 01:38 AM (GMT)
I will add that I've also seen Dustin Rhodes & Barry Windham vs Steve Corino & Scotty Riggs in a TLC match.

Peter North - February 6, 2005 04:22 AM (GMT)
I saw the Rockers/Brainbusters tag from MSG, but I was only like 10 or so. I liked it quite a bit. The only PPV I've ever been to was the ECW one that had the falls-count-anywhere match with Taz/Sabu, and Lynn/RVD on the undercard. Oh, and SID, too. Haven't gone to a live show in years, due to a combination of either car problems or having to work weekends. Instead, I sit at home, get stoned, and watch our favorite faux-sport by my lonesome.

TehDoct0r - February 6, 2005 06:42 PM (GMT)
A group of my buddies have taken too smoking a bowl before the Jack Evans match at a show or watching a tape. I haven't, so I don't know if it enhances the HOLY SHIT aspect.

Peter North - February 6, 2005 07:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah, have you ever watched an Arn Anderson match? On WEED?

TehDoct0r - February 6, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
I gotta be honest, if I saw that first Scramble Cage high, I woulda shit my pants instead of just pissing them.

prof_plague - February 7, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
I was going to see that RoH show in Cambridge, Mass on Jan 15, but something came-up and wasn't able to go.

That would have been Aries first RoH title defense...against my favourite, The Classic Colt Cabana. Plus a ton of other good things, but that was the best of note.

D.A.V.E. - February 7, 2005 01:26 AM (GMT)
Well dudes, I'm five thousand miles away from the rest of you, and have only been at three WWE shows, and the WWA ones dont count, so I'll have to say watching an Undertaker entrance. Even if he sucks in the ring, the entrance is everything

SamoaRowe - February 8, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)

since Angle's foot was on the bottom rope

WWE Smackdown! World Champion Brock Lesnar pinned Eddie Guerrero
with the F5 after countering attempted interference from Chavo
Guerrero Jr.; after the match, the Big Show attacked Lesnar from

Main event interview was the Piper's Pit with Roddy Piper and Sean O'Haire. Their special guest was the debuting Mr. America, who everyone in the arena immediately recognized as Hulk Hogan. Vince McMahon came out and Mr. America cleared house. After the show, Piper angrily got on the mic and threatened to never come back. O'Haire had to remind him they were in NH, to which Piper responded "New Hampshire? WE'RE IN NH?!? Let's GET OUT OF HERE!"

Shit I've seen live...

Wrestlemania X7 - Including Fan AXXXEsss or whatever they were calling it then. That was cool, cause they had matches, and Benoit wrestled. I was about 3 feet away for the whole match. I enjoyed that alot, and slapped Benoit on the sweaty back. Okay.

Goldberg's First Title Win - US Title over Raven, in Denver I believe. That was cool. I remember, Raven went to escape through the crowd and "fans" threw him back in the ring area. I never quite got that.

Owen Hart's Fall - Not the best, or cool at all. Just historic. The card was horrible, and the action was worse too.

House Show - Wichita, KS 91. Warrior vs. Undertaker match. Kind of a rarity.

Very first Smackdown - Rock vs. Triple H for the Title with HBK as guest ref. HBK turned, what a shock.

I slightly remember a Nitro with Hogan vs. Savage for the title, shortly after a PPV. Bret Hart interfered and let Hogan keep the title, which I HATED. And I love Bret Hart. But I remember wanting to kill his ass at that show.

I guess thats bout it.

I think that's one of the few things in professional wrestling the I will always seem remember. I didn't even watch that PPV. But I remember the announcement that was made later-on in the PPV that was on the news later on that night, and then that episode of Raw the next night.
