| In 1968 he changed the face of horror with a small film about the living dead attacking hapless victims who just wanted to survive the night. That one film can be traced back in almost every living horror director’s career as their biggest influence and now, nearly 40 years later, George A. Romero is back behind the camera to complete his legacy with Land of the Dead. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about… Today, February 4th, 2005, is George A. Romero’s 65th birthday! A true auteur, Romero has been the most important director to contribute to horror cinema since his first big splash in ’68. From films like Dawn of the Dead, which set the standard by which all zombie films are now judged, to his smaller films like Martin and Monkey Shines, Romero has shown time and time again that he knows what makes us humans so afraid of things we don’t understand and the extremes we will go to in order to return to a "normal" life. For never compromising, for staying true to himself and the genre we all know and love, and most especially for being one of the nicest guys in the business, we wish George A. Romero...
