News is that DC has acquired the rights to the "Archie Heroes"-- The Shield, The Web, Black Hood, Steel Sterling etc. Or else they're re-using their old rights to "!Mpact" Comics from 1991 or so. I never understood the legalities of that particular deal. Nevertheless, DC plans to use the Archie Heroes in upcoming issues of "Brave & the Bold".
Newsarama link with lots of flashing ads!I thought DC's Impact deal expired around 1992 or so. I want to say that I remember the Archie Heroes trying a comeback, circa 1993, during the big comic/speculator boom. But I may have them confused with Topps Comics.
But, somewhat more intriguing is that DC has also picked up the rights to the Hanna-Barbera heroes. Most likely, they'll amp up their "Cartoon Network" line or else they could do "Adult Swim Comics" with Harvey Birdman and/or Space Ghost. They also now have access to stuff like Shazaan, Frankenstein Jr, Herculoids, Jonny Quest, Atom Ant and others.
Most of the cartoony stuff could be "Carton Network Comics", but I'd like to see the Herculoids, Space Ghost and possibly Mighty Mi-Tor introduced as semi-serious superheroes, though. I used to dig the early 80's "Space Stars" show that would team up Space Ghost, the Herculoids and Teen Force (plus sometimes even "Ace and the Space Mutts") against various villains. I think those guys could definitely work with any DC cosmic story. Especially the Teen Force-- I was always a mark for that group for whatever reasons (well, with the exception of the two little gibbering blue guys).
