Two points about the Nikolai/Duggan vs. Orient Express match:
-I assume you meant that Duggan was just beaten down by Earthquake at the "SummerSlam Spectacular" show, about a week before. Earthquake squashed Herc at WM6, while Duggan beat Bravo.
-Nikolai was suddenly billed as being from Lithuania, after WM6. A contemporary angle, because in the "real world", Lithuania and its Baltic State neighbors made news by wanting to cede from the former Soviet Union. All three eventually gained their independence, but it was played up in the media as basically "the three tiny countries standing up to the big bad former Soviet Union!". Lithuania was the face and Russia was the heel. It was only 1990 and the end of the Cold War was still big news.
A bit of pre-cursor to the awful Sgt. Slaughter. The WWF suddenly felt they could work topical "real world" political angles into their storylines.
Keep coming with the info man, this is great stuff!
My info runs out after WrestleMania 8. I stopped watching WWF around July of that year. Right when Nailz and Razor Ramon debuted...that's probably when I left.
