Title: David Lynch

Is quite possibly my favorite director. I still haven't seen Twin Peaks (I think my girlfriend is planning on getting me the complete series box set for my birthday, because she keeps talking me out of getting season one on DVD...), The Elephant Man or Wild At Heart, but everything I've seen has been brilliant. I love how there's always this feeling of something sinister going on, even though it's not always on the surface.
I'm split between Mulholand Drive and Lost Highway as my favorites.
Any other fans?

He's alright. A little weird for me, but I did enjoy the Elephant Man. Eraserhead is pretty fucked up, but it's a movie my friends all think is great.
Mulholland Drive I thought was alright, strange but Naomi Watts is sexy as hell in it. I've been told to check out Blue Velvet but haven't yet.

I think he loses something when he tries to be more conventional or mainstream. Wild at Heart and Dune are good examples.
FWIW, I recently found out that the Anthrax tune "Black Lodge" is all about Twin Peaks and its subsequent movie, "Fire Walk With Me". Felt kinda' dumb for not knowing that. Cool song, regardless of the connection.

Dune wasn't his fault at all. He lost control of the picture to the production company. Even the "approved" cut had very little of his vision in it. Then again, it's an adaption, so really, it's to be expected.
Funnily enough, he turned down Return of the Jedi to direct it.

So instead of Ewoks we could have had little cow fetus babies like the one from Eraserhead running around?

I actually just finished watching Eraserhead all the way through for the first time. Trippy as hell movie. I found The Man In The Planet and The Lady In The Radiator more unsettling than the baby, though. But that's just me.
I actually got his book, Catching the Big Fish, about Transcendental Meditation. Very interesting. Not interesting enough for me to shell out massive cash to try it out or anything, but cool nontheless.

I like Lynch's stuff as Eraserhead is a damn near perfect film IMO.
I will say this though, don't completely buy into Lynch's "auteur" schtick though. He does a lot of shit for no reason just to see film nerds trying to find hidden meanings through all of it.
The Elephant Man is also one of my favorites from him. I highly recommend checking out some of his short films too. They're trippy as hell and are honestly pretty damn cool regardless of how strange they all are.

The only shorts of his I've seen are "Absurda" and the one he did for the compilation of directors using the original moving picture camera. It's called something like "Premonitions Following an Evil Deed".
I really liked Rabbits, the series of mini-episodes he did about... well, rabbits living in a room. Some of it eventually ended up in Inland Empire.
