Description: stolen from various other message boards

Real F'n Show - December 4, 2004 04:12 AM (GMT)
Basically just post thoughts on matches you've watched recently in here. I'll start a new one every month.

Rey Mysterio vs. Ultimo Dragon- WCW World War III
Hadn't seen this in awhile and popped it in the VCR to check it out. Man I miss 95-97 WCW. They get tons of time here, and it just rules. Ultimo pretty much dominates the match, being the bigger man, with Rey getting in his hope spots. Ultimo looks great here, using some sweet moves like a nice brainbuster and a tombstone on the floor, which is just awesome. He ends up pinning Rey after countering a springboard rana into a slingshot sit-out powerbomb for the pin. ***3/4

To echo what everyone who sees that match says, DAMN, that's a cool powerbomb to end the match.

Last night, I caught the Kikuchi+Kobashi/Can-Ams match from I believe it was 1991, and though I'd seen it before, I certainly didn't remember it being THAT good. Furnas makes a great dick heel, and makes me ponder if we were wrong all along about him. he comes off as bland, but his heel stuff is great here. As i explained in another post, my getting stoned doesn't really help me with the remembering of the matches, but I do remember really enjoying this, and would strongly suggest it.

I watched the Paul London vs Billy Kidman match from No Mercy just the other day.

I also rewatched the JBL/Undertaker main event to see if I was wrong about it being an awful match. I stand by my original claim, although JBL takes a couple of sick bumps in it.

That match has been pimped to me in several places, and I really should check it out.

I re-watched CZW COD 5, just for entertainment watching guys kill each other. There were only two really good matches for that entertainment I was talking about, and that was the Ladder match between Joker and Chri$ Ca$h, and, of course, the actual Cage of Death match itself.

Hellacious bumps in both matches. Worth checking out if you enjoy that kind of stuff.

I'm in the process of hopefully buying a few comps of early-90's All Japan, so that'll be the answer to this question for a little while. The precious little I have seen, like this match, I've been really impressed by. There's another match with the Can-Ams against Kikuchi and Kawada, if I'm not mistaken, which sounds like it could be great, too. But yeah, by all means, check this match out, it made me want to check out more Can-Ams.

Steve Austin vs. Booker T - WWF Smackdown 1/24/02
This match deserves more attention, and I'll be sure it gets it, because it rules! It is one of the last times Austin appears healthy and motivated, and as good as that is, Booker T is almost better here. He impressed me quite a bit in the way he acts as if Austin isn't worthy of being in the same ring as him. It is a very condescending heel performance full of nice little touches, such as slapping Austin when he's down, tossing him from the ring, or trying to beat Austin with his own move (which leads to his defeat). Austin's transitions, teased comebacks, and hot face moves are simply awesome here and the crowd goes nuts for all of it. Clean finish in about nine minutes. AND AUSTIN BUSTS OUT THE STUNGUN~!~!~!~!~! I love this. If you're a hardcore Austin fan such as myself, this is essential. If you're just a fan of hot TV matches you should still see it.

Now that i'm in the RIGHT topic (wow did I fuck up yesterday), I'll just say...

WWE Theme Addict TitanTron Videos. Watching Victoria jiggle covers up the total craptitude of the horrible song she has where someone goes "Go Go Go Go" for 5 minutes. Evolution video rules too.

SMW - Night of Legends. A well done DVD. Very well done for an indy. All-in-all though, some crappy wrestling.

Two matches I'll comment on:

Thrillseekers vs. The Fantastics - Not a terrible match by any means, but Jericho's broken arm certainly held him back some. I've gotta say though, I think that is the sickest blade job I've ever seen, and I've seen the Mass Transit incident. Full-out horror movie stuff there. ***

R&R Express vs. Chris Candido and Brian Lee - First, Brian Lee sucks. He really adds nothing to this match at all. Tammy "Fytch" looks awesome at ringside, and it's funny to see a pudgy Candido. The R&R's were still in relatively good form, but this was the early 90's and they hadn't changed their gimmick at all since 1983. I really think had they evolved some over time, they could have reall made a dent on the national wrestling scene. If not the team, Morton surely could have done something. Instead, he kept the mullet, snorted too much coke, and now he jobs on every indy I see in North Carolina. Not a terrible match, but the heels were just not strong enough to make you get behind Morton in this, and there was no ultra-extended selling segment by Morton, which is what he was great at. ** 1/2

In the days following Christmas, I'll be watching JAPW Awesome Sacrifice, PWG Kee_ the _ee Out of the _ool, ECW November to Remember 96, and several RoH DVDs. I'll get back to ya on those.

ECW Wrestlepalooza '97

Hands down, and without taking workrate into account, this is my favorite show EVER, anglewise. ECW was at it's peak here, and produce one of the best angles in wrestling history, with Jerry Lawler, Sabu, and RVD appearing at the end of the "Final Battle" between Raven and Tommy Dreamer, to attack Dreamer.

Lawler then goes onto make fun of the ECW fans, at the ECW arena, at an ECW show. The ECW roster tries to save Dreamer, including The Gangstas and Sandman, but all get beaten down by Sabu and RVD, who are in the middle of the "defecting to WWF" angle. Great stuff.

Finally, after relentless chanting from the fans, TAZ comes out and clears the ring. Sabu wants Taz, because they hate each other, and Taz vs. Sabu 2 is on. Sabu wins the match, but Taz challenges TV Champion Shane Douglas after the match, even going as far as putting his career on the line for the TV title, and Douglas says Taz has to make him tap out in under 3 minutes.

This is just an absolutely FABULOUS angle, probably my favorite of all time. Sorry for rambling on and covering all that, but goddamn did I love me some ECW...

TehDoct0r - December 27, 2004 05:46 AM (GMT)
I love that angle for the sheer fact that Jerry Lawler looks like he KNOWS he could actually be killed in the ring. He's moving around the ring, not sure who he's supposed to like and who he's not, and he just looks like a fish out of water. Not sure if he did that on purpose or not, but considering everytime I hear Lawler talk about ECW, he talks about it in a negative light, I wouldn't doubt that he seriously had no clue what was going on.

Was watching the 2/84 WWF Madison Square Garden show.

Seeing Eddie Gilbert get (somewhat) squashes by the Iron Shiek makes me sad, although he was only about 21 at the time of the show and look like a kid compared to later in his career. More updates later.

NWA-FL - Tradition is about to Change

Not a great show by any means, and it also suffers from bad production, as well as lokking like they held the show in a janitor's closet.

Two thoughts:
Steve Corino is so good in so many ways. He can talk with anybody and is quite passable in the ring. He could be a huge boost for a company like TNA.

Danny Doring sucks. God does he suck. I don't remember him sucking like this in ECW. Maybe just ring-rust or something, but he just doesn't look good on this show.

Scrooge McSuck - December 31, 2004 08:20 PM (GMT)
Finished watching the Andre The Giant vs. Masked Superstar match from 2/84 MSG Show. Pretty entertaining for the most part with the crowd pretty into it.

Coming up next is Hogan vs. Orndorff. In what I hope proves my points whenver, Finkel announces it as the Main Event of the card despite being on before two other matches. Hopefully this sinks through to some people that the Main Event is NOT ALWAYS THE LAST MATCH ON THE SHOW.

Scrooge McSuck - December 31, 2004 08:50 PM (GMT)
This folder reached it's target goal of 100 posts. Hogan/Orndorff was another fun match, although the real highlight is a cop continously yelling at a fan to not touch Paul Orndorff.
