Title: Kong in the Egotistical 8!
Description: Woo!

As a female fan of pro-wrestling (that, as I have mentioned before, has never watched Japanese wrestling), I am SUPER excited that they're letting Kong play with the boys. I don't have too much expectation of her going too far in the tournament, simply because she already has a title, but regardless, it is a huge move for TNA to let a woman compete on equal terms as the men.

Hopefully TNA will continue with this trend and throw some of the other girls in there, as well, against the men. Gail Kim is more than capable of being in the ring with some of the X Division guys as she has showed in the past with her interferences on behalf of Team Canada, IMO, as are Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Jackie has already competed in the Cruiser division (when it existed) in the WWE, and there is no reason why ODB can't compete against some of the bigger men.

I wasn't watching the WWE with they tried to push Chyna in the men's division...anyone want to fill me in on how that went, what mistakes they made, and how TNA could do a better job?

I'm still trying to figure out when TNA changed the rules regarding male/female contact in the TNA ring

I understand that Awesome Kong IS awesome in ring work such as Shimmer. I have never seen her outside the TNA ring so I'm not sure how well she does against other women in an actual wrestling match.

The first time I saw her standing nose to nose with Hernandez I remember thinking "now THAT would be a match!". ;) If TNA is going to continue using her as nothing more than a powerhouse bully, they will nave to put her up against others at least close to her size and the only wrestlers available for that would be the men's locker room.

I don't think I was paying much attention to wrestling when Chyna appeared in the WWE (or WWF's) men's ring. What I remember most about her was the romance thing with Eddie Guerrero.

Stupid, bad, horrible, and fucking lame. Shit like this makes no fucking sense and it'll ruin anyone she beats.

SamoaRowe - May 5, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
I disagree. She's a monster and physically more intimidating than a good chunk of the roster. They can make this work.

Jillie - May 5, 2008 11:23 PM (GMT)
Sassy, good point on the male/female contact. Maybe they mean no male on female violence outside of sanctioned matches. After all, if you agree to be in a match it's your choice to get beat up, right? On the other hand, I can see the logic behind being against wrestlers beating up their fellow wrestlers' valets and wives, etc.

Also, I think if they let Kong wrestle to the best of her ability and give her the freedom to express her character and her moveset, she will e a good match against many of the men. I can certainly see how DK would be worried about making those that lose to Kong look like pussies, but if they let Kong be a "wrestler that happens to be female" instead of a "female that happens to be a wrestler" I can see great potential for Kong in the men's division.

That's the point. This certainly isn't going to help the cause.

They can build her as a star with the women, but they just HAVE to cross the divisions. It's just plain stupid.

I am of the opinion that TNA needs to spend more time concerned with quality wrestling. Adding Awesome Kong to the men's matches won't necessarily improve the quality of the program.

They can't even get their act together with the X Division and keep it together. As much as I would like to see Kong in a match that would showcase her wrestling skills, having heard that she most definitely can wrestle against other women doesnt make me want to see her in a male/female match.

I'm afraid TNA will make it a big ha ha joke and destroy anything the fans might be expecting.

Honestly, you're probably right on being worried there. I feel like they are doing it to get attention for her, then when the spotlight is focused on her, they'll figure out a way to fuck it up.

And then we can wait for the writers to get together and figure out what to do -- like make ODB a heel

Jillie - May 6, 2008 06:35 PM (GMT)
I love ODB. I really do. Her character kicks ass. I don't think they CAN make her heel without changing her character. They tried when she first came in and it didn't work. Everyone cheered anyway.

I'm sorry. I should have clarified. I know TNA thought they had the perfect heel in O.D.B. She has too much talent and charisma to be an out and out heel. I was trying to make fun of TNA's writers -- not that they need any help with that

Jillie - May 6, 2008 06:55 PM (GMT)
Oh. Right. I gotchya.

Viceroy Virus - May 26, 2008 11:31 PM (GMT)
Chyna was an amazon, but she's no Kong. Kong is the only women wrestler that I can think of who could wreck quite a few of the men wrestlers. I can envisioning her devouring X-Division wrestlers. Other women wrestlers, past and present, might fit in well because of how they were booked and how over they were, but Kong fits in almost no questions asked because she the same size and just as talented as most any other wrestler. Hell, make Kong indestructible with some of the smaller men wrestlers and I'd even want to see Kong vs. Joe with the right build. Make it a battle of the best and that'd be most creditable any women's division could be.

dynamite kido - May 27, 2008 02:16 PM (GMT)
Joe vs. Kong?

Right build?

You've got to be fucking kidding me.

Unfortunately TNA isn't going to be able to pull that off without fucking up Kong's character, but I too would like to see her in the ring with men. I hope this silly $25,000 challenge they have her on right now will lead to some male opponents.
