Title: Brian Pillman's WCW 1996 Diary RULES!
Description: That's right.
Brian Pillman RULES! - April 23, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
The Backstory!
The year was 1996 in WCW, and the company was in the winning midst of an intense ratings war with the WWF. WCW was coming off yet another successfull PPV in Starrcade 1995, and the leader of the newly-reformed Four Horsemen, "Nature Boy" Ric Flair was the new WCW World Champion for the 12th time in his career after defeating "Macho Man" Randy Savage for the title with help from his fellow Horsemen cohorts, Arn Anderson, Brian Pillman, & Chris Benoit. The Four Horsemen were riding again. Brian Pillman, who running a very successfull new gimmick called "The Loose Cannon", was ready to bolt for the WWF after hearing that Hulk Hogan was growing more concerned for his main event spot, as the weeks went by. But, WCW Vice President, Eric Bischoff learned about this, and pulled a concerned Pillman into his office and reassured Pillman that his character will be safe in his hands. As the months continued into the summer of 1996, and as Horsemen member, Brian Pillman continued to work the entire wrestling industry with his "Loose Cannon" character at SuperBrawl 6 in a strap match with The Taskmaster from The Dungeon of Doom, Pillman did the infamous "Bookerman" promo with Sullivan, and it was thought by many that Pillman was gone from The Four Horsemen. But, that was never the case, as he came back after a brief stint in ECW, rejoined his cohorts with more focus than ever. Plus, former WWF stars, Scott Hall & Kevin Nash were on their way to WCW after accepting a huge offer from Turner. A huge angle was in the plans. Also, Ric Flair, who was in the midst of a major feud with Randy Savage after winning the WCW World Title from him for the 13th time, was also in a feud with Nitro broadcaster, Steve McMichael after weeks of Flair hitting on Mongo's wife. At the 1996 GAB PPV Ric Flair & Arn Anderson are heading into a tag team match with Steve McMichael & Kevin Greene. Plus, Horsemen member, Chris Benoit was in an intense feud with The Taskmaster, heading into the Great American Bash.
:::Backstory Flashback:::
In 1993, the former Big Bossman, Ray Traylor left the WWF for WCW, and was given a simular "Law Enforcer" gimmick, and a new name of The Boss. The WWF didn't like this move, as Vince McMahon felt that Traylor's gimmick was very simular to The Big Bossman gimmick in the WWF. What the WWF didn't know was that after Ray left the WWF, he trademarked the name of "The Boss", and he & his attorneys allowed WCW to use that name with him, and his character in WCW. Ray Traylor used his babyface Police Officer gimmick from his arrival in WCW in 1993 up to the present 1996 day.
:::Flash Forward:::
The Boss became a close ally of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, & Sting after Lex Luger turned heel on Hogan & Savage, despite remaining friends with Sting.
Ok, the first show will be the GAB 1996 PPV.
Brian Pillman RULES! - April 23, 2008 09:54 AM (GMT)
WCW presents, The Great American Bash!
The announcers were Tony Schavoine, Dusty Rhodes, & DDP. (DDP was the special guest heel analyst for the night in place of Bobby Heenan.)
Match #1:
The Steiner Brothers vs. Fire & Ice (Scott Norton & Ice Train)
This match starts off with a little test of strength betweem Scott Steiner and Scott Norton. Both men try to gain the advantage over the other, but they get a stalemate, as Norton knees Steiner in the abdomen, and starts going to work on him. Norton tags Train, who picks up where Norton left off by keeping Scott grounded with a few blows, followed by a weardown hold. A reverse chinlock. The fans chant for Scott to fight out of it, and pretty soon, Scott guts it out to break free. Tag out to Rick by Scott. Rick starts breaking out all the big suplexes on Fire & Ice. Soon, all hell breaks loose, and the referee loses control of the match. Ice Train gets isolated from the bout, while Norton is up in the Steinerizer. Bulldog from the top by Rick, who makes the cover.

Backstage, Gene Okerlund is standing by with Horsemen members, Brian Pillman & Chris Benoit. Gene asks Pillman about his match with Marcus Bagwell. Pillman says that beating Bagwell will be like taking candy from a baby. Chris Benoit cuts a promo on The Taskmaster, saying that no matter what happens tonight, he will prove to the world why he is a Horseman.
The Boss vs. The Shark (w/Jimmy Hart)
This match was a pure slugfest from start to finish. This lasted about 8 minutes when The Shark looked to squash The Boss with a big splash off the top, but missed when The Boss moved out of the way. Shark hit the canvas hard, knocking himself silly in the process. The Boss was able to capitalize on this mistake, and score the pinfall.

Winner:The Boss!

Brian Pillman vs. Marcus Bagwell
This was an exciting match between two of WCW's finest young talents, Bagwell managed to take Pillman straight to the limit in the ring. Both men exchanged some impressive high-flying moves against each other. Halfway through the match, it seemed as if Bagwell had victory coming his way until Pillman hurled his opponent out of the ring through the ropes, and while Pillman distracted the referee distracted, and this allowed Benoit to storm down to ringside, and attack Bagwell. Benoit posted Bagwell on the outside. Benoit throws Bagwell back into the ring, where Pillman got the pinfall.

Winner:Brian Pillman!
Ratings:82, 80, 81%
After the match, Scotty Riggs hit the ring to help his partner, but also got beat down by The Horsemen. The American Males are left laying in the ring, destroyed by the two young Horsemen.
Backstage, Gene Okerlund interviews Ric Flair & Arn Anderson who are with Woman, Elizabeth, & "Coach" Bobby Heenan. Arn Anderson tells Kevin Greene that he can try all the tackles and takedowns he wants, because he's still gonna feel the wrath of The Four Horsemen, one way or another. Ric Flair tells Steve McMichael that after he gets done showing Mongo who "The Man" is, he's gonna show Debra what Space Mountain is all about, before closing out with a "Wooooooooo!"
WCW U.S. Title match
Konnan © vs, El Gato
This match was pure lucha libre all the way. There were a lot of high-flying moves from both champion and challenger. Konnan managed to put El Gato in the Tequilla Sunrise at the 10 minute mark, and Gato tapped out, giving Konnan the win.
Winner:and STILL U.S. Champion, Konnan!
Rating:80, 79, 80%
WCW Cruiserweight Title match
Dean Malenko © vs. Rey Mysterio, Jr.
Malenko and Mysterio managed to put on one of the best mat clinics of the evening with a mixture of high-flying moves and pure mat wrestling. Malenko managed to bust out moves that we never seen him perform. Same with Mysterio. But, in the end, it was Malenko making Rey tap out to the Texas Cloverleaf to retain his title by submission.
Winner:and STILL Cruiserweight Champion, Dean Malenko!
Rating:89, 88, 90%
Falls Count Anywhere match
Chris Benoit vs. The Taskmaster
This match was easily the best match of the night, as both men brawled all over the building. They fought everywhere, including in the bathrooms. They went at it with several weapons, as well. As soon as they returned their brutal fight back to the ringside area, Benoit pulled a strong wooden table out from unter the ring, and slid it into the ring, where he whipped Taskmaster onto the table. Benoit tried to ram him through it, but missed. Taskmaster then propped the table up on the top turnbuckle, and then propped Benoit on top. As Sullivan climbed up top, Benoit countered with a superplex, followed by a pinfall.
1......2.......3!
Winner:Chris Benoit!
Rating:99, 99, 100%
After the match, Brian Pillman hit the ring, and joined Benoit in a Horsemen beatdown of The Taskmaster, until "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson hit the ring, and pulled them both off of Sullivan, and told them both to hold on for just a minute, and then, Anderson attacked Taskmaster, and it became a 3 on 1 Horsemen beatdown, until members of The Dungeon of Doom hit the ring, and ran The Horsemen out of the ring. The Four Horsemen were now stronger and more unified than ever.
Backstage, Mean Gene interviews The Four Horsemen, and Arn said that NOTHING can stop them, now. Not even a couple of football players, their wives, and Randy Savage.
Lord Steven Regal vs. Sting (WCW World Tag Team Champion)
This was basically just another day at the office for Sting, as he was able to defeat Regal by submission in 9 minutes with the Scorpion Deathlock.
Winner:Sting!
Rating:70, 70, 71%
Interview Segment!
Eric Bischoff interviewed the two Outsiders on the stage area. Scott Hall & Kevin Nash, who had been appearing on WCW Monday Nitro for weeks leading into the PPV, said that WCW was "too weak" and "too gutless" to give them their match with three of WCW's finest. Bischoff told them that they'll get their six man tag team match at the next WCW PPV, Bash At The Beach. They ask Eric who the 3 guys are, and Bischoff doesn't know yet. But, this doesn't sit too well with The Outsiders, as they attack Eric, and Nash powerbombs him off the stage, and through a table. The Outsiders leave, as the medics tend to Eric.
Backstage, Steve McMichael & Kevin Greene are with their wives, and Randy Savage. Gene is conducting the interview. Mongo and Greene both say that they are both ready to fight The Horsemen. Mongo promises victory against Flair, tonight.
Ric Flair & Arn Anderson (w/Woman, Liz, & Heenan) vs. Steve McMichael & Kevin Greene (w/Debra, Terra, & Savage)
This match was exactly what it was hyped up to be, and that was a total donnybrook from the very beginning. Mongo really takes it Flair in this war. Same with Greene taking it to Double A. Halfway through the match Woman & Elizabeth ran Debra & Terra back to the backstage area. But later on, Debra returned with both Woman & Liz in a nice dress and bringing a briefcase with her. She got on the apron, and just as she was looking like she was gonna help her husband, she tossed the briefcase to Ric Flair, who knocks out Mongo with it, and pinned him to score the victory.
1.........2...........3!
Winners:Ric Flair & Arn Anderson!
Ratings:89, 88, 89%
After the match, Mongo, Greene, & Savage all tried to get revenge as Flair celebrated with Debra, Woman, & Liz. But, Benoit & Pillman hit the ring and joined Flair & Anderson in a Four Horsemen beatdown and humilliation of Team Mongo. The carnage continues until the sirens blare through the speakers, and the music of The Boss hits, and The Boss hits the ring, and runs The Four Horsemen and their ladies off and away from the ring. As The Four Horsemen left with their entourage, The Boss stood alone in the ring, tending to the losers.
WCW World Title match
The Giant © (w/Jimmy Hart) vs. Lex Luger (WCW world Tag Team & Television Champion)
This was the main event of the evening, and just as Luger was expected to walk away with the gold, after putting The Giant in the Torture Rack, it was not fated to be true, as The Giant was able to lay out the challenger with his signature Chokeslam, and snag the pinfall after a 10 minute match for the gold.
1.......2......3!
Winner:and STILL WCW World Champion, The Giant!
Ratings:78, 82, 79%

In a post-match interview with Okerlund, The Horsemen spoke their minds in traditional Horsemen fashion. Chris Benoit told The Taskmaster that there was never any doubt that The Four Horsemen were wrestling's most elite group, and by beating Sullivan, he proved to everyone that he's all man. Brian Pillman said that The Horsemen are ready to soar to new heights in 1996, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop them. Arn Anderson made it perfectly clear that there is only room for Four Horsemen. Arn then addressed the situation with The Boss. Double A promises the former corrections officer from Cobb County, GA. that if he sticks his nose in their business again, it will be The Boss that serves The Horsemen's version of "Hard Time".

Winner:Ric Flair!
After the match, The Four Horsemen laid another Horsemen beatdown to the Macho Man, big time. That is, until The Boss hit the ring, and this time, he fought off all members of The Four Horsemen, and ran them all off. As he tended to Savage, The Boss grabbed the mic, and told The Four Horsemen that they broke the law in WCW for long enough, and that all 4 of them were now gonna serve Hard Time, because HE is the law in WCW, not The Horsemen. This got a big positive crowd reaction, as we went to a commercial break.

-Sometime during the match, Hulk Hogan came down to the ring, and once he hit the ring, he tore his Hogan shirt off, and ran Hall & Nash out of the ring.
-Then, the unthinkable happened. Hulk Hogan dropped the legdrop on Savage 3 times, signalling that HE was the 3rd man with The Outsiders, betraying his legions of fans all over the world, and ending Hulkamania. He then cut a promo with Hall & Nash, proclaiming them as the New World Order, and that they were gonna take over WCW and professional wrestling.
