Google tells me that Rachel Nichols is a cute chick... but I've always visualized someone a bit tougher to play Scarlett. But the screen can convert someone well enough.

So they've cast Snake-Eyes (Park), Storm Shadow and Scarlett. The obligatory Hawk/Duke pick is expected, but they need to include one more significant good-guy character to make me happy. Dag.

Oh boy...I'm putting the over/under on "modified fanboy spankbank picture of Scarlett" for this puppy at three days:

QUOTE (SuperheroHype)
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Rachel Nichols (P2, "Alias"), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje ("Lost") and Said Taghmaoui (The Kite Runner) will join Sienna Miller and Ray Park in Paramount's live action film G.I. Joe.

Stephen Sommers is directing Stuart Beattie's latest screenplay draft based on the popular Hasbro action figures, comic book series and Saturday morning cartoon. That cartoon featured military soldiers fighting a terrorist group called Cobra, with characters like the mute ninja Snake Eyes (Park) on the side of the good guys.

Nichols will play Scarlett, a skilled martial artist who specializes in hand-to-hand combat and counterintelligence.

Akinnuoye-Agbaje will play ordnance expert Heavy Duty and Taghmaoui will play Breaker, the team's communications specialist.

Miller will play the Baroness, known for her espionage skills.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Hasbro's Brian Goldner are producing with Sommers and Bob Ducsay. The film is scheduled for an August 7, 2009 release.

So that means Mr. Ecko will be Heavy Duty. I could see that.

Erick Von Erich - December 20, 2007 04:58 PM (GMT)
I guess they're going with Heavy Duty as the "team's black guy" instead of Stalker.. a name which would draw all kinds of jokes on the Internets.

But, screw that, it's Mr. FUCKING Eko!!! Damn, give me a towel. I just creamed my pants.

You know about this, es?
http://www.beyondhollywood.com/yo-its-the-gi-joe-movie-logo/

All I know about this film is that the studio was rushing to finish up the script before the writer's strike began.

Erick Von Erich - February 19, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
Well, it's been in "development hell" since 1986 and is finally seeing the light of day, thanks to that shitpot "Transformers" movie. There were rumors that even Steven Spielberg was interested in adapting it, in the late 80's. When the franchise went donwhill in the early 90's (while Marvel and Hasbro were both going through "re-structuring"), the movie talk faded. Movie talk flared up again about six or seven years ago.

Quick rumor mill of what's been going on:

-Larry Hama reportedly was brought on as a "consultant". That can only be good.

-It's supposed to be more international-based, rather than the "Real American Hero" US version. The movie studios were concerned that a pro-US movie might tank on the overseas market. There was also talk of it being re-named "Action Man", which is a brand name that is arguably more known, worldwide.

-Dennis Quaid is rumored to be on-board as Hawk (yes... they went with HAWK...not that turd, Duke). Hawk is cool. Duke is not.

-Rachel Nichols, some cute chick from the TV series "Alias", is Scarlett.

-My favorite casting tidbit: MR. FUCKING EKO (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) is supposed to play either Heavy-Duty or Roadblock.

-Byeong-Heon Lee (who?) is Storm Shadow, while Ray Park (X-men's "Toad" and Darth Maul) is Snake-Eyes.

-Few other casting choices have been made...but nobody I'm familiar with. I hope it's a weak rumor, but I've seen Marlon Wayans connected to the role of Ripcord. Huh?!

I'm of the belief that a movie doesn't validate a franchise, despite the common fanboy sentiment. I'm not really looking forward to this...since I already have my GI Joe movie: 1987's "Predator". In that flick, Arnold could be Hawk. Carl Weathers is Stalker. That big Indian dude is Spirit Iron-Knife. Jesse Ventura is either Rock n' Roll or Repeater. Bill Duke is.... umm, maybe an older Roadblock? Plus the other two wimpy white guys (Pancho and Hawkins) could be any one of numerous Joes (I usually settled on Short-Fuse and Breaker).

...plus I have "Megaforce".

..and now ya' know!

There you go, E. First shots from G.I. Joe

Erick Von Erich - March 21, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
Aw poo... I was never a big fan of Snake-Eyes' "window shade visor" look. I prefer his streamlined black or silver "commando" goggles. But I like how the Arashikage I-Ching symbol is fairly prominent.

There are a few shots of Deniss Quaid as Hawk making the rounds. Along with Baroness (blonde) at a funeral. I'd follow it more, but GI joe message boards are a little too geeky for me. Constant abbreviations of old stories (it's not "issue 21", it's "SI"), weird categorizations that I don't know about, horrible fan-fic, etc.

Latino Review reports that Brendan Fraser has filmed what sounds like a cameo as Gung Ho in G.I. Joe, while Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been offered the role of Shipwreck. The Stephen Sommers-directed action-adventure is now filming for an August 7, 2009 release.

I'm waiting for E's head to explode

Erick Von Erich - April 7, 2008 05:09 AM (GMT)
Head's fine. I don't have high hopes for this movie. Nothing to do with casting or the plot... just not pinning my hopes on it. I'll see it... but I won't camp out or even see it opening weekend (unless my buddies talk me into it). I know, it's a bit different from the common fanboy speculation of "I will feel validated when the movie of MY nerdy pleasure makes millions at the box office! Mooowahaha!"

I still have "Predator" and "Megaforce", regardless :)

Here's a link to a page on Ain't It Cool News that links to the various pics leaked from the movie. You'll see Destro, Baroness, Storm Shadow, Heavy Duty, Hawk, and then you'll shake your head in shame

Yeah, Storm Shadow looks ridiculous. :)

Big F'N Swigg - May 8, 2008 03:40 PM (GMT)
Reminds me of Jet Li's character in the Matrix

Erick Von Erich - May 8, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)
Having despised all things Matrix...I don't know what you're referring to... but I'm sure it's 100% relevant and accurate :)

Why do all the Joes have form-fitting black leather outfits? They all look like rejected costumes from "Batman Begins" or "X-men". Heck, even "Dune". Mix in some camo, darnit. I know they have to "make it cool and kick-ass" for movie audiences, but I think something like the pilot outfits on "Battlestar Galactica" would work well. Those look functional and sleek, without looking like superhero outfits.

Big F'N Swigg - May 8, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
I agree. It's an attempt to make things "stylish" instead of "realistic."

Erick Von Erich - May 8, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
Oh, split and merged the GI Joe crap into THIS thread. This way we'll be able to come back in a year and see how things (and opinions) have evolved.

Kept the "Dear Hollywood" thread separate, since it's more general and talking about goofy movie ideas.

Erick Von Erich - May 27, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
Reading this week that the Hard Master is scheduled to make an appearance in the film. Played by some guy named Gerald Okamura.

Here's a link to a story with links to the posters for the new movie. They've got Duke, The Baroness, and Snake Eyes

Erick Von Erich - June 25, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
Now it's called: "GI Joe: Rise of Cobra"? Ehh....but on one hand that title brands it as a series.

Kinda' goofy, though, because what the hell else would it be about? That's like labeling ROCKY as "Rocky: the Challenge of Apollo Creed", COLORS as "Colors: the Trials of Danny McGavin" or STAR WARS as "Episode IV: A New Hope".

I'm not shy about my Duke hate, but I don't have problems with the Baroness and Snake-Eyes posters. Especially with the Arashikage hexagram on Snakes' sword.

Erick Von Erich - June 26, 2008 10:34 PM (GMT)
Oh...and Baroness's jugs? Fake.

QUOTE
Actress SIENNA MILLER was forced to wear fake breasts for her role in forthcoming action movie G.I. JOE - because her own cleavage was not big enough for director STEPHEN SOMMERS.

The Alfie star joins Dennis Quaid and Brendan Fraser to play femme fatale The Baroness in the upcoming movie, which is based on the popular U.S. action figure and cartoon series. But Miller admits she was left slightly stunned when Sommers told her her small chest had to be given an extra boost so she would look more curvaceous on screen.

She says, "(I wear a) tight black leather outfit. And much bigger boobs. "They gave me these things that looked like chicken fillets. The director said, 'I'm gonna be honest, I like girls with big boobs', and I don't have them so we made them bigger. "At least he's honest. But I was mildly offended."

Were I a chick, I would have quit the film over stupid shit like that
