Title: 2008 iMPACT Discussion
Description: Who's watching? Admit it...

Might as well.

There's a pinned thread for show discussion.

EDIT: For 2007. Oops

Viceroy Virus - January 25, 2008 07:44 PM (GMT)
So, Devine is X-Division champion? Oooookay. Well, I suppose he's been holding the belt long enough. Just before the match I was thinking, "Jay Lethal has been had a decent reign as X-Division champion. Crap, he's going to lose tonight."

Hooray for Curry Man and Tiger Mask!

Let's see here, we have:

Jay Lethal as "Macho Man" Randy Savage
Shark Boy as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin
Sonjay Dutt as shown as Diesel and refered to as the Mega Powers by Lethal

Any I'm missing?

I was just thinking as I was watching Impact that they have way too many "characters" based off of older characters. Not in a "Mark Jindrak is a Lex Luger ripoff" way, but in a "Shark Boy is now Stone Cold Shark Boy" way.

Although I'll admit that "...and that's the fishin' line, because Shark Boy says so" is a bit humorous.

dynamite kido - January 25, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
I'm holding out for Angle to offer up Karen to me to order their next PPV.

Big F'N Swigg - January 25, 2008 07:53 PM (GMT)
I'm waiting for him to ironically call my wife a "Stripper Wife"

dynamite kido - January 25, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
Didn't he say something about "C'mon, this is Karen Angle...not some *stripper"?

* - Karen was a stripper at one point.

Something to that effect, yes. I take that as one of Russo's "in jokes." I've yet to understand one case of Russo logic.

Alternately, I really do hate the writing on the show. Stuff like "Stone Cold" Shark Boy is fine for a company like Chikara, who does basically everything tongue in cheek, but not for a company who's trying to gain a mass audience and pass their product off as serious wrestling.

Erick Von Erich - January 25, 2008 07:59 PM (GMT)
Dude...everyone was a stripper at one point. It's all about whether or not you got PAID for it.

I don't mean to double post, but I really need to know why the hell Johnny Devine's wearing Cobra trunks.

But CM Punk is a face!!

Devine's gear looked like something the Baroness would wear at night. She was always running around with the cobra insignia on her kneepads, just like Devine. Ick....

Big F'N Swigg - January 25, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
The Baroness would wear at night? You mean she had more than one uniform?

And why would you wear kneepads at night? Unless your Karen Angle...

Wait, you don't think Karen Angle is the Baroness do you???

Erick Von Erich - January 25, 2008 09:11 PM (GMT)
You would wear kneepads as night to perform bukkaki on some weirdo with a metal face mask, wearing an open shirt and a medallion.

Basically, with those kneepads Devine looks like he's ready to suck the schlong off of the Enemy Weapons Supplier.

Baroness had several uniforms. Her original "Nazi Hydra Blue" outfit, then the spank bank black leather get-up that she's known for. Plus "Casual Cruise Liner Swimwear Baroness" and "Euro Aristocrat who Gets Her Brother Blown Away in Saigon" gear.

Crap. Tiger Mask. I thik I was havin a conversation the same time as I made the post, and I typed a couple words which were said.

Big F'N Swigg - February 2, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
There's a rumor going around that Impact may be going live every other week

KSSassy - March 21, 2008 06:50 PM (GMT)
Did anyone bother to watch iMPACT last night? I got around to it this morning and yes we are now on an MMA track...I had such high hopes for TNA when it hit the airwaves but then it went to 2 hours and lost it.

If I have to hear the Kurt Angle, Karen Angle and AJ Styles thing one more time, I will scream.

On the brighter side, Sting may be coming back next week and although I liked him better as the strong silent type, I'd rather listen to his mouth than either of the Angles and even AJ is starting to get on my nerves...

SamoaRowe - March 21, 2008 07:07 PM (GMT)
I caught the main event, and that was it (and enough).

whitemilesdavis - March 21, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
i haven't watched in a loooong time.

Mad Dog - March 21, 2008 11:56 PM (GMT)
Haven't watched in a long time either. I catch some of the Shark Boy stuff on youtube.

whitemilesdavis - March 21, 2008 11:58 PM (GMT)
If Shark Boy is the only thing worth watching on Impact, TNA is in dire trouble.

Mad Dog - March 22, 2008 12:22 AM (GMT)
Really, those segments are just fun and they don't really overdo it or be counter-productive with it.

dynamite kido - March 22, 2008 08:11 PM (GMT)
I don't know how anyone can watch the shit they put on TV anymore.

KSSassy - April 6, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know what the "Cross The Line" thing is that TNA has going?

Big F'N Swigg - April 6, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
It's their new marketing slogan.

If you ask me, it's pretty pathetic

Raven doesn't seem to be missing TNA:

Raven defeated TNT in Penrith, NSW, Australia on April 11th for the Australasian Wrestling Federation to capture the AWF Australasian Heavyweight title. TNT had previously held the title since January 7, 2007. Raven will defend the AWF Title tomorrow at Craigmore High School, SA against “Platinum Player” JT Robinson.

SamoaRowe - April 17, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
Who/what/where?

TNA wasted Raven for most of his tenure, but he's been next to useless for the last year and a half or so.

Raven and everyone else on the roster...but the Aussies seem to like (or hate) Raven enough to keep him around.

The GOOD news is I read today that Karen Angle won't be on TV as much -- TNA thought they were using her TOO much.

I didn't think they would EVER catch on!

SamoaRowe - April 17, 2008 11:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, who'd have ever thought that pushing the wife of your world champion as a character more important than 90% of your roster could ever backfire?

So last week I watched TNA with my buddy who I hadn't seen in a while. He's very much into the TNA product, and watching Impact with him made the show enjoyable. So this week I gave it another shot by myself. And again, I got burned.

My first gripe came during the Bashir/Creed match. The match itself was pretty decent, but I had two problems with the booking. First, the winner is going to face Petey Williams for the X Division title at No Surrender. Which is being held in Canada. Creed, the all-American boy hero, won. In other words, Petey "Canadian Muscle" Williams is going to be treated like a saint by the Canadian crowd, and Creed will probably be booed out of the building. I know Williams is a heel, but TNA should be preparing to have to treat him like a babyface for one night only, and Bashir would have been a better opponent considering they will be in the Toronto area.

My second problem was that after the match, THE REFEREE KICKED BASHIR'S ASS! WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU BOOK YOUR REFEREE TO BE STRONGER THAN A GUY WHO WAS A PINFALL AWAY FROM BEING THE #1 CONTENDER TO THE X DIVISION TITLE! FUCK!

Then there was a match between Beer Money and Super Eric/Shark Boy, and it was also a pretty decent match. Afterwards, Homicide made his return and helped Hernandez attack Beer Money, and the moment didn't feel anywhere near as significant as it should have.

Then there was a backstage segment with ODB in the bathroom, taking a shit, with lots of loud farting noises. That was the last straw and I turned Impact off.

Klossing - September 6, 2008 04:48 PM (GMT)
I really liked this weeks impact. The Sting/Joe confrontation was really good and I'm glad TNA is doing this feud correctly. I liked Homicide's return. THough I woukld have liked to see it happen at No Surrender, like have Hernandez vs. Beer Money for the Tag Titles but have Homicide return. That prolly would have been more effective. Styles/Cage was a REALLY good match. Probably the best match on free TV in a while. But there was just too many pointless backstage stuff like Sting arriving and ODB taking a crap it's pointless wastes of time.

SamoaRowe - September 6, 2008 11:47 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the one thing I can never seem to fault TNA on is that the in-ring product is really good. I might try and catch that Christian/Styles match on the replay tonight.

Klossing - September 7, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I mean sure TNA doesn't have the greatest storylines behind the matches but they do a damn good job with in ring wrestling. Which is the complete opposite for WWE.
