Title: THE Wrestlemania discussion thread....
dynamite kido - January 31, 2005 02:54 PM (GMT)
Well so far I can see this....
HHH vs. Bautista
Michaels vs. Angle
Undertaker/Kane vs. Snitsky/Heidenreich
Possibly
JBL vs. Cena
discuss.
I'm also hoping that they do Eddie/Rey too.....
Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
Hmm... so far, my opinions...
HHH vs. Batista: Workrate wise, this match isn't going to be too good, but thankfully the angle leading up to it has been simmering for 3 months already, and I'm on the edge of my seat for Batistas face turn.
Michaels vs. Angle: I must be the only person alive who doesn't care for this match. I feel both men are on top of the list of the most over-rated wrestlers in recent history, both have problems selling for their opponents longer than 6 seconds, and will just be a train wreck I think with Angles repetitive spots and Shawns... whatever he does now.
Undertaker & Kane vs. Heidenreich & Snitsky: Kane and Taker teaming up again makes me happy, but otherwise the match will make me contemplate suicide by Snitsky watching.
(Possibly) JBL vs. John Cena: Oh boy... I hate hate hate hate hate (repeat for the next 60 lines) Cena, and JBL is shit for a wrestler, but his promo skills make him a favorite of mine on SD. No interest in this match either.
Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2005 07:53 PM (GMT)
I'm not looking forward to any of these really. Though I would mark out for Batista winning the belt.
dynamite kido - January 31, 2005 08:06 PM (GMT)
Funny thing is....and I'd be glad to argue about this with anyone. JBL is lightyears ahead of Cena in the ring.....and THAT is what scares me.
Mad Dog - January 31, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
I think this year could easily give I, II or IX a good run at worst Wrestlemania ever.
dynamite kido - January 31, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
Sad thing is that I really enjoy II. Honestly for me I would agree that IX is terrible, but right there with it are XI, and XV.
Mad Dog - January 31, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
Triple H vs. Batista - this will suck. Batista is going to get sabotaged by either Triple H winning or Triple H exposing him during this match. It won't be good and Batista will be lucky to come out of this intact.
JBL vs. Cena - too limited workers that will get thrown out there to die a horrible 15-20 minute death with JBL probably going over in some stupid finish.
Angle vs. HBK - solid to good but it won't break ****. Angle is almost no better than a spotmonkey anymore with his inring work and it'll only be good if HBK doesn't fall into the same mentality.
Taker and Kane vs. Hosses - this will drag the show down to horrible depths not seen since Vince/Steph last year.
Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2005 08:33 PM (GMT)
For Worst Wrestlemanias, I would rank it like this...
WORST: Wrestlemania XV: Horribly booked from top to bottom and nothing memorable whatsoever besides Bart Gunns head being knocked into the 7th row.
2nd Worst: Wrestlemania II: Sorry, but a good Bulldogs/Dream Team match doesn't make me wet myself for joy.
3rd Worst: Wrestlemania IX: The outdoor atmosphere and good opening match and Steiners/Shrinkers boost it.
4th Worst: Wrestlemania XI: Ugh... the roster is so fucking depleted that the show has 7 matches, and only 3 of them actually matter.
Mad Dog - January 31, 2005 08:55 PM (GMT)
I think XII was way worse for how depeleted the roster was.
SamoaRowe - January 31, 2005 09:01 PM (GMT)
I dont' think any Wrestlemania will ever match IX as far as awfulness goes.
This year won't be X7, but it could probably be as good (or mediocre) as XV.
Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2005 09:07 PM (GMT)
Except XV really sucked. Just say it: WM XXI is going to suck.
WM XII had a decent enough roster for upper-card people (Davey Boy, Ahmed, Owen, Diesel, Undertaker, Bret, Shawn, Warrior), but the under-card was just nothing. Same amount of matches if the Tag Title Match was on the actual PPV.

No, I agree with ya - Cena is the drizzling shits in the ring.
Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2005 09:41 PM (GMT)
My problem is this: He used to be good. I've seen old footage of him that was impressive. He started sucking once he became a rapper. Coincidence?
Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
He was never anything special in OVW as The Prototype, but he somehow just keeps getting worse despite being way too young for someone with his kind of decline. Usually people don't start sucking until the end of their careers.
Mad Dog - January 31, 2005 10:30 PM (GMT)
The year of nothign but 2 minute squash matches are probably why he's getting worse in the ring.
SamoaRowe - February 1, 2005 04:58 AM (GMT)
I think I realized the sad thing about Cena while I was reading the listing for this months's WWE JukeBox at their website. They are doing a special dedicated to Cena, loaded with lots of matches from 2002 and 2003. As I was looking through the list I kept thinking "Oooh, that match was good" or "i remember that one! it rocked!" and etc.
I think the before and after with Cena came around the Royal Rumble last year. He injured his knee at the show and was limited to squash matches in the weeks after it. However, I guess the writing crew liked this way of using Cena better and has kept this habit up ever since.
The other problem with Cena was that he went from working against Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and Brock Lesnar to working with Rene Dupree, Jesus, Kenzo Suzuki, and had many boring matches with Booker T. The only Cena matches from 2004 that I considered to be any good were his U.S. title defenses at Judgment Day and Great American Bash, and then the first time he wrestled Carlito. Everything else Cena has done this year has been annoying as shit and is frustrating to me because I saw so much in him in 2002 and 2003.
Scrooge McSuck - February 1, 2005 05:25 AM (GMT)
Cena squashing Carlito for 98% of the match didn't make me scream for joy. Made me think "Wow, 1 match in and Carlito is already being treated like shit."

I was thinking, "Wow, one match into his WWE career and Carllito is already better than Cena."

I was thinking, "Wow, one match in and he's getting put over one of their hottest babyfaces for a singles title."
Scrooge McSuck - February 1, 2005 04:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah... after about 10 minutes of squashing. Cena allowed Carlito MAYBE 2 punches. Plus Carlito had like 3 matches since then thanks to a freak accident with Hardcore Holly.
Carlito still rules though. (chomps on an apple)
TehDoct0r - February 1, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
Yea. The injury wasn't the E's fault tho. So I don't blame them for fucking him over.
Yet.

Cruiserweight champion Chavo Guerrero is currently out of action with a cracked orbital bone. Guerrero will continue to work TV tapings to continue the Eddy Guerrero/Rey Mysterio storyline. However, the Guerrero vs. Paul Londman match that was never officially announced, looks to be off the Wrestlemania card. Chavo is not expected to wrestle again until after Wrestlemania.

There goes 1 of the only matches I cared about. Of course, it would've been shafted in the time department anyway.
dynamite kido - March 21, 2005 06:52 PM (GMT)
Also, Meltz is still stating that Eddie/Rey is still happening though.
That makes me happy!
Scrooge McSuck - March 21, 2005 07:04 PM (GMT)
There's only 2 more Smackdowns left before Wrestlemania. HURRY THE FUCK UP, YOU DUMB FUCKING COMPANY.
SamoaRowe - March 21, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
I bet almost anything the Eddie/Rey match doesn't get announced until the Velocity before WrestleMania. And they'll still be tag champions.
Chavo's injury sucks balls. I'd say declare the belt vacant and let Paul London and Billy Kidman have a rematch or something like that.
whitemilesdavis - March 24, 2005 04:58 PM (GMT)
I'm going ahead and saying HHH retains. Batista has been booked to strong lately, and that all leads to HHH going over at Mania. One speculation I've seen is that Evolution's new member will cause the loss, which is at least better than Trips going over clean. What do you guys think?
Scrooge McSuck - March 24, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
Batista losing would be the worst booking decision of the year. Naturally, Triple H is retaining. Both World Titles won't change hands, and no matter how much it will suck, Cena will probably win. :(
Mad Dog - March 29, 2005 11:06 AM (GMT)
I have to say I'm not into Mania at all. It feels like just another show this year.
whitemilesdavis - March 29, 2005 12:59 PM (GMT)
I disagree in that I think they've built HHH / Batista great, and I want to see Angle/ HBK, and Eddie / Rey. It COULD be a great show. With WWE, I won't hold my breath, but it has potential.
Real F'n Show - March 29, 2005 06:42 PM (GMT)
If Eddy/Rey or the ladder match get anything less than 15 minutes, I'll be pissed. And there would be no reason for JBL/Cena or even Triple H/Batista for that matter to go more than 15, given the workers involved, but we all know they're going longer than Eddy/Rey...
dynamite kido - March 29, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
Well, if they seriously book Bautista to loose to HHH at Mania they will fuck up the RAW brand as bad as WCW fucked itself with the first Sting/Hogan match. So hopefully, they aren't THAT retarded. Also, I agree with RFS about the ladder match and Eddie/Rey being longer than 15 minutes. Hell, the ladder match with the magnatude of performers in the match should be over 30 itself. As long as Eddie/Rey get over 15 there should be no problem.....especially because I don't see the women, the sumo match, or JBL/Cena needing that kind of time.
Scrooge McSuck - March 30, 2005 05:12 AM (GMT)
(breaks silence)
I've been more excited for my next bowel movement than for Wrestlemania 21.

Anyone interested in seeing Mania, but not ordering on PPV? PM me
TehDoct0r - April 2, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
Well I think everyone here is interested in seeing it, but would love not to order the PPV.

Oooh, are we going to share webcast passwords again :P
Either way, I'm not going to be home tomorrow night. I'm going to wait patiently and buy the dvd regardless of how good or bad it is.

Nope.....not at all.
Scrooge McSuck - April 3, 2005 06:00 PM (GMT)
Yeah... AMERICAN cash. Canadian money is worth as much as the dung pile outside.
Also, I hated when people would beg for webcasts. Either A.) Get a fucking job to pay for it yourself, B.) if you want it that bad, you probably could afford $35, or C.) Wait for the DVD if you can't do either of the above two.
I haven't had PPV access since October, and haven't watched a PPV since Unforgiven, and I'm glad. That saves me $300+.
