Tragic Kingdom- No Doubt
Hot Fuss- The Killers
Big F'N Swigg - January 31, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
You bought the Killers? Trendy bitch.
The Last Free Voice - January 31, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
Okay, that wasn't a buy, it was actually given to me in exchange for another CD. But fuck you, that's some good electronic poprock. Mr. Brightside sounds much better on the CD than the radio/TV edit.

The Last Free Voice - February 1, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
No Doubt, at least Tragic Kingdom era no doubt, when they stillhad Gwens older bro on Keyboards, and had a bit of a Skaish sound, kicks loads of ass. Don't be a hater.
Big F'N Swigg - February 1, 2005 01:13 AM (GMT)
I love being a mod.
And yes, I like No Doubt.
The Last Free Voice - February 1, 2005 01:45 AM (GMT)
I've gotta say I like older No Doubt better than newer No Doubt, and loads more than Solo Gwen.
prof_plague - February 1, 2005 03:32 AM (GMT)
oooo....Gwen...:drools slightly:
SamoaRowe - February 1, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
I got the Killers cd for Christmas, but I've been listening to them online for quite some time (before they got radio play, so I can safely say I didn't jump on any trend :D )
Scrooge McSuck - February 1, 2005 05:14 AM (GMT)
Toby Keith isn't that bad... oh shit.
The Last Free Voice - February 1, 2005 07:44 PM (GMT)
I first heard the Killers on FUSE, which I think was before they got any sorta airplay on any radio (near me, at least). Today I finally bought Nevermind the Bollocks. If you don't know who that is by, shoot yourself.
Scrooge McSuck - February 1, 2005 07:58 PM (GMT)

What did you think of Rise Against?

It was a pretty good cd, I play it a lot while driving so I haven't really had time to connect songs with song titles.
And I also just picked up "American Idiot" by Green Day and "Animals" by Pink Floyd (both were favorites of mine on Rhapsody).
Real F'n Show - February 22, 2005 12:10 AM (GMT)
What do you think of Killswitch? It might take you awhile to get into them, but they're really good.

It actually took me a shorter amount of time to get into that cd (have it playing right now). I really dig it, I kind of like how it's heavy metal and all, but it doesn't make me angry or feel bad :D

I myself like what I've heard of Killswitch, though I don't think they're mind-blowing. Yet.
EDIT: I'd also like to add that thanks to Valentine's Day, I have added several albums to my collection:
The Juliana Theory-Understand this is just a Dream
U2-The Joshua Tree (I've had this, but now it's not just a copied version)
Johnny Cash-Blood, Sweat, and Tears (ON FUCKING VINYL!!!!!!!!)
Brandtson-Send Us A Signal

I hate that disc. One of the most overrated bands ever. They really benefit from having a dead murder junkie in the band.
Those looking for early British punk should check out early Clash stuff, or The Damned.
The Last Free Voice - February 28, 2005 05:01 PM (GMT)
I have some Clash stuff on a CD a friend of my dad made me, and I love it. It doesn't have a tracklist though, so I only know the songs by what the chorus sounds like, and I can't really tell what's early or not. And I remember seeing the name the Damned somewhere... did they tour with the Misfits or something? I can't quite place where I saw the name.
I like Nevermind the Bollocks, myself. But I'm easy to please, I guess.
whitemilesdavis - February 28, 2005 05:09 PM (GMT)
The Damned did a reunion disc/ tour a year or two ago, so it's quite possible they played with The Misfits.
The Last Free Voice - February 28, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
Yea. I went and looked around. The Misfits were gonna do a British tour with the Dammned, but they walked off after two shows, for lack of pay and stuff. This led to some downtime that led to the whole Glen Getting arrested and writing London Dungeon thing. So yea. ANYWAY, I think I will check them out.
whitemilesdavis - February 28, 2005 05:41 PM (GMT)
Keep it early. They departed from punk later in their run. I still like the stuff, but it's not a good intro to the band. I would recommend Machine Gun Etiquette, or Light at the End of the Tunnel. The latter is kind of a two-disc retrospective, but is really good if you can find it.
The Last Free Voice - February 28, 2005 05:57 PM (GMT)
ok. Next time I'm out buying I'll look for it.

I don't think I'm going to be buying any new music until the new Ben Folds album drops.
But I've been listening to lots of fun stuff on Rhapsody, so it seems like I own them, particularly some Saves the Day and Jimmy Eat World that I haven't listened to since high school.

Check out the new Brantson CD: Send us a Signal. It has elements of Jimmy Eat World, Juliana Theory, etc.

Oooh, I just might have to.
The Juliana Theory was a great discovery in high school, this kid I knew was promoting the band to all of his friends.
Big F'N Swigg - March 12, 2005 03:24 PM (GMT)
The Juliana Theory's founder, Brett Detar, was a guitarist in my favorite metal band, ZAO, before starting the band. That made TJT a must-have for me right off the bat. Ironically, Brandtson features two members of a hardcore band I was obsessed with in Jr. High, sixfeetdeep.
Both bands make incredibly honest and melodic music. Though Brandtson's gets a little heavier at times. Especially in their earlier CD's.

Someone pimped them to me at work today. I'll have to check them out, I guess.

No Swigg, that happened AFTER work... erm....
Anyway, they look interesting. I may check them out. Allthough the comparison they make to themselves and Manson is kinda disheartening... But they look interesting enough.
