Title: What movies have you watched today?
Description: As in whatever day you read this...

Scrooge McSuck - January 28, 2005 06:21 AM (GMT)
Note: I think this might be pin-worthy... or I can be made Movies/TV mod and do it myself. :)

Topic says it all... update everyone with that you've watched recently, and a small opinion and/or some lines that are memorable or funny.

I didn't watch anything today (thanks to being in and out with another fucking cold and post whoring... I mean posting alot today), but here's yesterdays movie...

My Cousin Vinny
(1992) Starring... Joe Pesci, Ralph Macchio, Marisa Tomei, Fred Gwynne

Probably one of my favorite Joe Pesci movies (alongside "The Super") as he plays a inexperienced lawyer that means life and death (literally) for Bill (Ralph Macchio) and Stan (Mitchell Withfield, who are charged with murder of some redneck who works at the Sack-o-Suds convenient store (a.k.a shitty 7-11).

Pesci has a lot of good lines (including the exchange in the bar with the guy who owes him money) here and there, although most of it is just shouting foul language. However, his side kick in crime, (Mona) Lisa (Marisa Tomei), his fiancee of... god knows how long, as a few good lines as well. Also, while she does a good job, I still don't see how she won the Oscar for Supporting-Actress. Oh well...

Anyway, the best part of the film is, of course, Joe Pesci (playing Vincent Gambini) being completely clueless in court, upsetting the judge (Fred Gwynne) to the point he was thrown in jail multiple times. From dressing problems to obscene language (his entire opening statement was "Everything he just said is bullshit... Thank You"), Vinny couldn't catch a break. On top of that, he lied to the Judge about his previous trials, which is a total of zero, and thus has to lie his way out of everything when cornered. Vinny eventually evolves into a decent lawyer, with the help of Lisa of course, and thus get the two "youts" off the hook.

Overall, a very funny movies that has its serious moments as well (which mainly consisted of Pesci and Tomei), and is all around enjoyable. The profanity level is a little high (the duo literally say fuck at least 6 times in a span of 5 seconds in 1 scene), which should be expected when a Pesci movie has an "R" rating.

Score: 10/10

DVD Bonus Features:
Directors Commentary (Jonathon Lynn), Anamorphic Widescreen (Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1), Interactive Menus, Languages: English Dolby Sourround, French Dolby Surround. Subtitles: English, Spanish. Theatrical Trailers and TV Spots.

QUOTE
Vinny: Lisa, I don't need this... I swear to God, I do not need this right now. I got a judge that's just aching to throw me in jail. An idiot who wants to fight me for two hundred dollars. Slaughtered pigs, giant, loud whistles... I ain't slept in five days. I've got no money, a dress code problem, and a little murder case which in the balance holds the lives of two innocent kids. Not to mention your (stomps 3 times) Biological clock. My career, your life, our marriage! And let me see! What else can we pile on? Is there any more shit we can pile on to the top of the outcome of this case?! Is it possible?!"

Lisa: Maybe it was a bad time to bring it up.

I watched Snatch last night. Hilarious movie. Extemely fast-paced, it seemed like ahalf hour sitcom. Brad Pitt is hilarious as the Pikey who no one understands.

Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2005 08:17 PM (GMT)
Major League II:
(1994) Starring... Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernson

Comparing this to the first movie is like trying to compare horse manure to chocolate Ice Cream. While the first ML was funny for almost every scene, this one just seems to drag along aimlessly with paperthin plot points that make no sense like Rick Vaughns (Sheen) relationship with some bitch, Pedro Cerrano (Dennis Haysbert) and his magical turn to... whatever, and Roger Dorn (Corbin Bernson) was suddenly rich enough to own a baseball club. I also must point out that Wesley Snipes didn't return for the role of Willie Mays Hays, so instead of getting rid of the character, they simply replace him with Omar Epps, who looks nothing like Snipes.

While all that doesn't make sense or is just completely stupid, the bright spot (of course), is the return of Bob Uecker, playing the role of baseball broadcaster Harry Doyle, adding in some funny lines now and then.

Overall though, a mediocre movie at best that you should only bother watching if you really are interested in it after seeing the first. I recommend Major League 3: Back To The Minors over this because it's a lot more fun despite having a lot of name actors thanks to a really short budget, and having no link whatsoever to the first two.

Total Score: 5/10

Fight Club

9.5/10

(Yeah, I'm the type of person that so rarely gives a 10 for anything, although I can give many close calls.)

Seven Samurai (1954) is an unparralleled masterpiece. I laughed. I cried. I was thrilled. I was awed. It is among the best I have ever seen.

Big F'N Swigg - February 3, 2005 03:59 PM (GMT)
Akira- Beautiful animation, interesting story. It didn't quite have that "X factor" for me, but I'll still give it 8/10.

I went to see Sideways after school today. It was really good, check it out.

Dog Day Afternoon
(1975) Starring... Al Pacino, John Cazale, James Broderick, Charles Durning

I'll wait until I watch for a second time (or maybe third) to get some real rambling, but just gotta say a fucking awesome movie. Too bad (eh, I like the bad guys) Sal gets shot in the head and Sonny is arrested at the end. Roller coaster ride all the way. I did NOT expect that finish.

Benoit is God - February 9, 2005 11:54 AM (GMT)
I just finished The Magnificent Seven (1960). It's not the untouchable masterpiece that Seven Samurai (1954) is, but it's still a real good film and I had a ton of fun with it - especially the scene where the seven sit around the table discussing what it means to be a gunfighter.

"Places you're tied down to, none. People with a hold on you, none. Men you step aside for, none." - Chris

"Insults swallowed, none. Enemies, none." - Lee

"No enemies?" - Chris

"...Alive." - Lee

What a great scene. :)

Finished watching ...And Justice For All (1979) (Starring Al Pacino, John Forsythe, Lee Strasberg, Jack Warden). Yes, I'm kinda in a Al Pacino mood this week. I just hate myself though for losing my tapes of the Godfather I and II.

AJFA is pretty good, although it's not quite as enjoyable as Pacino's other movies during the 70's/Early 80's, but still good enough to warrant an Oscar Nomination for his performance.

Pacino plays a defense lawyer who is surrounded by corruption of his fellow attorneys, and finds himself in the unusual position of having to defend a Judge (John Forsythe) that is arrested for rape and assault. The kicker is, Pacinos character Arthur Kirkland hates Judge Fleming's guts. By defending Fleming, Arthur has to decide to keep his integrity, or becoming another corrupt monster in the legal system. The ending in the Court Room is especially brilliant, but I won't spoil it for those haven't seen this yet.

I would probably rate it around an 8.5/10.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

-Wow, just wow. This movie was REALLY well done and I was extremely impressed with Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey's acting in this film. I usually don't care for Charlie Kauffman written films, but this movie was seriously one of the best of it's kind. I would recommend this one to ANYONE and is a must see for anyone with some Carrey love going on as well. Kate Winslet's performance IS Oscar worthy and you literally start to fall in love with her character through this film. What a great job by her.......I can prase her enough for this role. I wasn't even that big of a fan of her before......but this film changed my opinion of her for sure. Carrey was as down to earth as he needed to be for his role in this film and the supporting cast was great as well. Well written, well performed....you really can't ask for much more out of a film.

-And you get to see Kirsten Dunst in her skimpies too........and we all know that helps.

Scrooge McSuck - February 18, 2005 08:37 PM (GMT)
Hmmm... ESotSM has always been on the "maybe" file, mainly because I really haven't seen anything of Carrey outside of his goofy comedies, and Kate Winslet has never been my favorite actress. I could give this a shot for a rental I guess.

Well, I would suggest that you go check it out. It really is an exceptional film......

-No doubt about it, this maybe the most disturbing film I've seen. It's truly great and anyone who enjoy's David Lynch's work would love this. I'll add more later......

Finally saw Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. Much better than the live action version starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Gomez Addams. Some of the fight scenes were pointless to get some characters in, like Zangief and Blanka, and Honda/Dhalsim. But overall, a fun Anime movie with some great animation.

Just saw SAW last night, and fucking loved it. It's one of those movies that makes you think, and has a twisted fucking ending. The whole movie's fucked up. Loved it. Everyone needs to see this.

Wow, you liked it that much RFS? Were you as critical of the acting as most others were or didn't you think it was that bad?

Considering I was halfway stoned, it didn't really matter to me. The story overshadowed the acting anyway. I really liked it, but then again, I enjoyed Freddy vs. Jason as well. Waht'd you think of it DK, besides the acting?

dynamite kido - February 21, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
Saw was pretty good. The ending totally made the movie for me though. Not the most original piece I've seen.......but it was a good attempt for some hardcore stuff though, and I appreciate that being a horror enthusiast and all.

Why be ashamed of liking Freddy vs. Jason? That movie fucking rocked, and almost made me forget Jason X existed.

Well, everyone, including most of my friends, it seems, fucking hated it. I loved every minute though, even bought the DVD.

Scrooge McSuck - February 21, 2005 07:18 PM (GMT)
I've had the DVD for quite a while... the only problem I have with the movie is the annoying fucking bitch (the black chick who was part of Destinys Child I think) who had tov live until the fucking end.

and Kane should've been Jason, not Kirsinger (sp?). Outside of that, had me marking like a bitch.

SamoaRowe - February 21, 2005 07:19 PM (GMT)
Since I last posted, I've seen Saw, Fight Club, American Splendor, The Blues Brothers, and the second Inuyasha movie.

All were very enjoyable.

Yeah, I was disappointed by Hodder not playing Jason, but completely forgot about when the movie started.

OH yeah, the black chick in that movie is Kelly Rowland.

Sorry that I know that but I haven't seen the movie.

Freddy vs. Jason was fucking awesome! The only complaint that I have about it is the same as most horror fans......Kane = Jason.

Scrooge McSuck - February 21, 2005 07:25 PM (GMT)
Nothing wrong with knowing the name... and I should've said Kane Hodder, just incase anyone gets confused with the wrestler Kane, who apparently was in a movie called Eye-Scream Man, or something lame like that.

Kane Hodder > Kane

Well DUUUUUUUH!

Since we're on the subject of Kane Hodder, his cameo in Jason goes top Hell was funny (as the security guy). He said something funny, but for the life of me, I can't remember.

I don't remember them ever making a Jason goes top hell.... B)

Honestly though Jason goes to Hell might be the biggest piece of shit in the series.......except for Jason X.

I meant "to"... the movie is OK, but definitely not something I would watch on a regular basis. Thank God the DVD was only $10.

personally, as a fairly big fan of the Friday the 13th series.....that film and jason X are a total abomination to the rest of the series.

Eternal Sunshine is one of the best movies in recent years. It's Kaufman's best, beating out Being John Malkovich in creativity and quality story. (Not to mention that there's no Cameron Diaz) I watched it on my honeymoon, and it was really one of the high points of my honeymoon (you know, other than the stuff you go on the honeymoon to do)
