Heh. Amazon UK is accepting pre-orders for "Chinese Democracy". Release date: Feb 12, 2008.

Chinese Democracy Pre-order

Let's see how long this lasts.

I won't believe the CD is coming out until I see it at Best Buy.

..and now Best Buy has it as an "exclusive"

They only missed that earlier release date by nine months.

It's finally out and, damn, is it awful. MySpace has the entire album streamed:

There are about a gajillion copies of this thing in the warehouse at my Best Buy, so they're expecting a big hit. There's also a ton of the exclusive Police dvd that isn't selling, so take that as you will.

I would expect Chinese Democracy to be a big hit in the way that the new Eagles and AC/DC discs were successful for Wal-Mart. However, Wal-Mart promoted the hell out of both of those, and I haven't seen a single advertisement for GnR at my store and we arent' even playing them on our promotional in-store radio system (which are actually cds that corporate sends us, I don't think it's changed in two months).

I saw a TV ad for the new GNR disc and best buy. I can't believe that it's actually coming out. Apparently it's surprising people by its quality, too.

Rolling Stone gave it four stars. That kind of caught me by surprise.

It's getting mixed reviews. I've read some really positive ones and really negative ones. About par for what I was expecting. I'll end up picking it up sometime this coming week and give it a whirl.

I might check it out on Rhapsody.

I think the song is called If the World...or something like that.

If you make it all the way through without jamming a screwdriver in your ear, I'll give you a dollar.

WMD...would you happen to have any WD40? Need to get this embedded screwdriver out of my ear canal.

I'm not surprised that Rolling Stone ranked it fairly high. They've been very envious for GnR to come back and do anything of relevance. Didn't they do a "XYZ year anniversary of Appetite for Destruction" as a frickin' cover story, awhile back? They've been stuck in a summer of 1988 GnR blowjob for years.

I'd say that this new album revolves too heavily around Axl's whiny vocals. In their 2-and-a-half previous albums (gee, what a big frickin' catalog), his vocals were part of the band, but not THE part. I think that's the biggest difference.

I've listened to the album out of curiousity and what I figured was completely true. It doesn't even sound like a GnR album.

Personally I've always thought that GnR's sound was Axl's voice over Slash's guitar. If you don't have both, it sounds generic. I found most of the album to sound like over produced garbage and half of it sounds like tracks that they made but should have been cut from the album.

So I forgot that since this is a Best Buy exclusive, it won't be on Rhapsody (since Best Buy and Rhapsody don't seem to be bed-buddies anymore). I still haven't heard anything but the opening 30 seconds to the title track.

I may end up buying this out of sheer curiosity, though it seems that no one except the Rolling Stone critic liked it.
