Title: Dear Hollywood...

You've gone too far. Please Stop

And this is worse than Transformers....how?
Big F'N Swigg - July 6, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
It's not that it's worse than Transformers. It's just that they can't stop making movies based off of old properties. Make something new for crap sake. It annoys me that instead of creating new characters, we keep seeing bastardized versions of the old ones. The fact that they're making a live action Alvin and the Chipmunks means that they're reaching deep in the barrel. What next, a live action Jem? Bionic Six? Where's it gonna stop? Captain Planet?
eStragand - July 6, 2007 05:12 PM (GMT)
Well, we did have TWO Garfield movies. Plus Underdog is coming out soon.
They did Josie and the Pussycats, so Jem isn't too far off. Actually, a Jem movie might be kinda' cool in a "watch it on cable with the MUTE button" way. I'd probably be excited over whoever played the redhead.
These movies aren't artistic by any stretch of the imagination, but they seem to be safe moneymakers for Hollywood, complete with a built-in loyal audience.
I mean, I'd be in line for a Smurfs movie. An adaptation of the original "King Smurf" or "Astro Smurf" would be great....but it'd probably be some bullshit with Gargamel that I'd end up seeing, anyways. I could see Robert DeNiro playing Gargamel. BTW, the original "King Smurf" is a great story with a little bit of political satire. The printed version, done before the cartoon came out. The cartoon made Brainy take up the king role and it didn't work as well. Look up the original if you can!
If a director wants to impress me, take a relatively unknown 80's property like "Starriors" or "TigerSharks" and make a "summer blockbuster" out of that.

Paramount Pictures has announced it plans to begin a trilogy of 3D computer animated Smurf films, the first to be released in 2008 through its Nickelodeon Films banner. The project had been in various stages of development since 2003. The new movie is planned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Smurfs.

Just fucking shoot me in my head right now. I used to love Alvin and the Chipmunks when I was a kid. Fuck these fucking fuckers!
whitemilesdavis - July 6, 2007 08:57 PM (GMT)
Oh come on, they look adorable. You guys hate Santa, too?
TheGreatWhiteChoate - July 6, 2007 09:06 PM (GMT)
All I'm saying is they look like their voices are going to be provided by The Game, Method Man, and Fat Joe. As cool as that would be, I feel like my childhood is being shredded.

About the possible G.I. Joe movie...
| QUOTE (movies.yahoo.com) |
| Well, there's good news and bad news for fans of the classic toy and cartoon series. The good news is that this project appears to be getting some steam, and is producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura's next big one after Transformers, including word that he hopes Mark Wahlberg will be starring as Duke. The bad news is that apparently pressures to be able to market this movie internationally mean that it is becoming less of an ensemble piece featuring all the familiar characters from the 1980s version, and more of a "buddy movie" featuring Duke and a character called "Action Man" that is a toy popular in countries outside the U.S. With a new script being worked up, it's possible that many familiar characters and concepts may end up not making it into this movie after all. In fact, di Bonaventura offered the caveat that the movie might not even be called G.I. Joe at all. Apparently, "G.I. Joe" is a title he feels may not do well outside the U.S. |

So what was the "good news"? Marky Mark as Duke? That clown's gotten more mileage out of a big shlong than Ron Jeremy.
But they're right in that "Action Man" IS more well-known around the world.
It's also depressing that, in the eyes of movie types, GI Joe is further down the ladder than Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I've seen the trailer for the Chipmunks flick. To give you an idea of the quality of the film, it involves Alvin eating crap.

On another note, I've read that there are remakes of "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Short Circuit" in the works.
The Short Circuit remake is being written by the same writers that wrote the original, but apparently they're trying to make Bill & Ted a more "urban" based film. The Wyld Stallyns will likely be a hip hop duo.

Why does it sound like they are intentionally making a b-movie?
