Title: Tool, APC and FfaF
Description: Learn me.

A couple of friends at work and I got into a music discussion. One swears by Tool and A Perfect Circle, so recomend me some of them, please. And another, knowing my musical tastes, as I'm sure all of my close friends here do, recomended Funeral For A Friend. I was under the impression that they were some shitty Emo/Screamo band, however. So, yay or neigh on them?

I've never understood people's love for Tool. They are a completely average band that sounds like a handful of other bands out there yet people think it's utter brillance.

A Perfect Circle is ok but again they don't really stand out to me.

Actually, I think Tool has a magnificent amount of musical talent, especially the drummer. But I still don't understand the immense love some people have for them. ANd I HATE A Perfect Circle, as it's basically a watered down "pop" version of Tool.

BOO.

Tool is my favorite band, and has been since I saw them in concert right after Aenima was released. I've seen them twice after that, and each time the show got better.

LFV, for starters I recommend picking up Aenima, their third (second full-length) album. It's my favorite CD of all time, and it hasn't left my CD player since the day I bought it, which was right when it was released.

If you enjoy the CD, then I recommend you pick up Lateralus next, followed by Undertow, and then Opiate if your'e really digging their stuff.

If your not into buying, some great songs you may want to download from Tool (starting with their older stuff):

Sweat
Hush
Opiate
Intolerance
Prison Sex
Sober
Swamp Song
Flood
Stinkfist
Eulogy
H
Forty Six and 2
Hooker with a Penis
Jimmy
Pushit (my personal favorite)
Aenema
The Grudge
The Patient
Schism
Parabol/Parabola
Ticks and Leaches (fucking great)
Lateralus

As for APC, I haven't picked up their cover album (probably won't), but their first two CDs are excellent. I'd start with Mer de Noms and follow with Thirteenth Step.
3 Libras is an amazing song.

Good music that is pop is still good music, right? I understand your point though. Nonetheless, Orestes is an amazing song.

Oh, it's still good, I just hate that I'm getting APC instead of Tool.

So, LFV, did you ever get into Tool? If so what'd you think of them?

The Last Free Voice - February 22, 2005 12:31 AM (GMT)
No, I didn't. But I still plan on checking them out sooner or later. My PC is just so fucking slow downloading songs is a pain in the ass. But godwilling we're switching to DSL soon, so that will help matters. I haven't forgotten about it, just don't have the time to wait for an hour or two for one song. Know what I mean?

Yeah I gotcha. You should just buy Aenima, it's amazing album that's worth every penny.

If I see it I may just do that. I heard an APC song today (it was for Constantine, or something) and it sounded pretty bad, though.

I could not agree anymore (ditto for Lateralus).

If Tool ever performs in your area, go to it, even if you are not a fan. You will be by the end of the night.

A Perfect Circle has some really good songs, and Mer De Noms really clicked as an album, but that's about all the positive stuff I have to say about them. I didn't dig any of the covers they released last year or the remixes either.

It's no surprise. A Perfect Circle is like a watered down pop version of Tool.

Tool is an incredibly talented group of musicians making incredible music. APC is a talented group of rock musicians making mediocre "rock" music.
