Title: Best WWE matches that end with a DQ.
Description: A DQ doesn't always suck, right?

SamoaRowe - April 19, 2007 08:01 PM (GMT)
Let's think about matches that ended with a DQ where the finish actually added to the story of the match, or at least did not diminish your enjoyment of it. I know sometimes it can be a slap to the face when a match goes a methodical 15 minutes of boring rest holds only to end with a DQ, and that usually knocks the overall enjoyment of the match down several notches.

But what about the times when it is perfectly acceptable and doesn't take away?

My main picks:

Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind in 1996. This was a chaotic match that walked the line near a DQ almost the entire time. It took some outside involvement from Vader to finally end the match, but the action was so satisfying up until then (and an angle was progressed) that it just didn't matter. Easy ****1/2 match.

JBL vs. Eddie Guerrero at Judgment Day 2004. The story of this match was Eddie bleeding like a pig for several minutes and doing whatever he had to do to defend himself and his championship against JBL. When Eddie finally got disqualified, with the blood spilling out of his head, was one of the most dramatic, memorable finishes I've ever seen to any WWE match. ****1/4.

So, any others? Let's get some discussion going.

C'mon now... wasn't #25 on YOUR List of 50 Greatest Moments "HonkyTonk Man vs. Brutus Beefcake at WrestleMania IV"?!

There ya' go!

I would agree 100% with the ones that you mentioned Rowe. Two of the better DQ matches in ANY company.

I'll have to think about this and see what I can come up with, because nothing was popping into my head besides the ones you named.

What about Benoit vs. Shawn that was billed as The Showdown in the Desert? Didn't Triple H run in?

Now that I think about it, Triple H interference has ruined the endings to a lot of great matches. I think the same thing happened in an Austin/Angle match on Raw in 2001-2002.

How about Bret Hart vs. The Undertaker from One Night Only, September 20, 1997?

jamiegeist - April 20, 2007 03:22 AM (GMT)
I've stated it before, but that match absolutely did NOT live up to the hype. I had heard of that match for quite some time, and it ended up just being a plodding, punch-kick shit-fest of a match, and I was entertaining only by the all-too-familiar tones of the fabulous U.K. fans and their "HONK--HONK--HONK-HONK-HONK--HONK-HONK-HONK-HONK-" airhorn bullshit.

I really liked their Summerslam match about twice as much.

I haven't watched it in awhile but I thought that the ONO match with Bret/Taker was excellent. But I haven't seen it in about 2 years or so I'd say.

It very well could've been a case of me being a little too hyped up on it.

Plus, as I think I've mentioned before, I was on like, hour 3 of the Bret Hart DVD matches section and very well could've been burnt out.

Lex Luger's DQ against Yokozuna at Wrestlemania X was also well done, mainly because Mr. Perfect was involved and it lead to them fighting.

Feh...

That match sucked balls, and the hyped Perfect/Luger matches never took place because of whatever reasons, and lead to Luger/Crush instead.

Luger/Crush

Which was fucking coma inducing.

We could also look at the worst examples of a DQ finish. The best example to me is probably Undertaker vs. Lesnar at Unforgiven 2002 and Triple H vs. Scott Steiner at Royal Rumble 2003.

Or Triple H vs. Kevin Nash at Judgment Day 2003.

Or Triple H vs. Kevin Nash at Judgment Day 2003.

Awesome example, and ironically during the very same Triple H title reign. No wonder I look back at that era in horror.

Also known as the era that put wrestling fans in theropy.

Because Perfect was never medically cleared to wrestle.

I guess no one noticed......

Scrooge McSuck - April 21, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
There was a rumor that Hennig was going to WCW to feud with Hogan that same year... and he only wrestled practically 3 months before the whole WM thing.

Maybe he had a particular injury, but he's always been cleared to wrestle. It's not a legit sport where an injured athlete can't compete.

dynamite kido - April 21, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
Perfect could've come back to wrestle during his hiatus, but he wouldn't have recieved his royalty check from Lloyd's of London. There were plenty others in the same category as I think Rick Rude was another.
