Title: OAO April Impact Discussion

Mad Dog - January 24, 2005 01:24 AM (GMT)
There seems to be a serious lack of talk about Impact on here. We need to change that.

I enjoyed this week's edition quite a bit. The Abyss press slam on Hardy was cool and I really liked the ending to Daniels/Styles. It was a nice bit of psycology to have Daniels switch gears and fight for a draw towards the end of the match.

TNA really needs to use the Naturals better. I don't think they've wrestled more than a 2 minute match on Impact since it started.

Could we get this pinned?

Real F'n Show - January 24, 2005 01:36 AM (GMT)
I loved how Daniels just started rolling around near the end so Styles couldn't pin him. That was a damn good 10 minute match. Now imagine what they'll do with 30. Can you say ****+?

Big F'N Swigg - January 24, 2005 01:43 AM (GMT)
Here are my questions about AAO Matches, did they answer them on Impact?:

How does Daniels get the title shot and not Petey or Sabin?
How does Nash get a title shot before DDP or Monty?
Is there any reason that Dustin Rhodes and Raven are fighting?

Mad Dog - January 24, 2005 01:49 AM (GMT)
Daniels cut a promo basically challenging Styles to a title match and the agreement was that if Styles couldn't beat Daniels in 10 minutes then Daniels gets a title shot. So they have a match and once it gets down to the last 10 seconds or so Daniels starts rolling around and basically latched onto the ropes to get the draw. Dusty came out and made it a 30 minute ironman.

Raven was trying to break the fingers of some jobber and Dustin made the save.

I think I skipped the Jarrett/Nash segment.

Big F'N Swigg - January 24, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
At least there was some attempt to make sense.

In my opinion, there were several angles to pull coming out of Final Resolution:

Petey and Sabin could've either demanded a rematch or duel it out to see who the X-Division #1 contender is. You could also mix in Sonjay and Primetime here.

I think the Raven/Watts/DDP feud should've continued, with Raven costing DDP the shot at the title. Raven should hound DDP for messing up his relationship with Watts.

Nash could've attacked DDP for costing him his title shot. You could also involve Hall and Watts, and have Raven save DDP just so he could attack him.

Monty could demand a rematch.

There are some others, but my wife is distracting me.

Scrooge McSuck - January 24, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
I mentioned my comments in the AOO topic.

I don't get iMPACT, but Xplosion generally shows everything on it. This week they aired all of the matches, although Styles/Daniels was cut to around 7:00, but still good for what was shown.

The "Press Conference" made no sense.

Abyss beating down Hardy and slamming him onto the table outside the ring was awesome.

Raven breaking Jobbers Fingers was always cool, and I'm glad to see it come back to TNA.

I didn't even know the Naturals were still in TNA.

dynamite kido - January 24, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
Well, here's what I got out of Impact this week....

I did enjoy the AJ/Daniels match although I was rather annoyed how they had to lose over 2 minutes of the match because they HAD to go to break. Too bad they announced this, as they SHOULD be fighting this upcoming week and go to a 15 minute draw to at least set up a reason for the ironman, but I guess I'll take what I can get at this point.

I agree 100% with CB, as not only did the "press conference" make no sense.......but it also made all parties involved actually look worse than they did going into it.

As for the Raven thing........I could careless about it, but at least they seem to be bringing back his "bad ass" act that he is actually really good at playing....it could be good for some good promos too.

Also, I noticed that Kazarian/Shane were brawling with the Naturals during the big brawl that occured.....why wouldn't they do this over BG/Hammonds vs. Kazarian/Shane?

Not too bad of a show, but they still have room for improvement.

Big F'N Swigg - January 24, 2005 03:00 PM (GMT)
I like the idea of the press conference, but I'm pretty sure the execution ALWAYS ruins it. It's supposed to make you believe that the press cares about the promotion and give the match a sense of heightened excitement, but it always screws things up.

And if Raven's going badass again, THANK YOU GOD!!!

Mad Dog - January 24, 2005 03:05 PM (GMT)
They need to look at New Japan tapes of press conferences. Thouse always seem to be well done even though I can't understand what's being said.

TehDoct0r - January 24, 2005 04:40 PM (GMT)
Press conferences are only good if they involve hicks flying to Japan solely to mess them up. Duh.

Scrooge McSuck - January 24, 2005 07:50 PM (GMT)
The Press Conference I felt was stupid because...

A. What was the point of doing one this time and not for something like Raven vs. Jarrett, which CLEARLY (4/30/03 match) was hyped non-stop for months.

B. When did the Press talk to TNA? ZING~!

C. How did Nash suddenly become #1 contender? Sleep with the owner or something?

Big F'N Swigg - January 24, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
I'm with you on the Nash thing, it doesn't make much sense. Though I believe that the ME of Final Resolution was the second worst match on the card, Monty still deserves a rematch.

Scrooge McSuck - January 29, 2005 04:27 AM (GMT)
Caught Xplosion tonight. They clipped out Candido/Siaki (BASTARDS!) but everything else seemed to be left in.

Chris Sabin & Jeff Hardy vs. Kid Kash & Lance Loyt - Nothing much of a match. Sabin plays job boy as Jeff Hardy does nothing in the match and gets into a fight with Abyss at the end.

Monty Brown vs. Johnny Devine - Brown destroys everything walking until everyone gangs up on him after the match. Match barely lasts 2 minutes.

Dustin Rhodes & Cassidy Riley vs. The Naturals - Rhodes looks to be in pretty good shape. Riley takes the majority of the beating (still selling the Raven situation last week) and gets squashed after Rhodes became distracted by Raven (who attacked everyones favorite suicidal failure, Erik Watts).

3 Live Kru vs. Elix Skipper, Kazarian, Michael Shane - Too short for a 6-Man Tag (that seems to be a problem in WWE too), but quite an energetic match. Nice to see B.G. James using the old Outlaws intro, minus the words "WWF" and "New Age Outlaws".

dynamite kido - January 29, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
Sabin/Hardy vs. Kash/Hoyt was fucking terrible. But it did further the angle they have going on right now......so it's passable. I also love how TNA does tag matches, as they tend to just throw two guys together for no reason more than any company I've ever seen.

Monty vs. Devine was basically just a squash. Finally TNA understands what they should be doing with Monty EVER WEEK. Nice opponent too as Devine made him look like a million bucks here....

Well, the Naturals vs. Riley/Rhodes was pretty blah as well. The Naturals reinforced why I hate them in this match by doing absolutly NOTHING of value. Cassidy Riley isn't too bad and at least they had him selling the fingers that Raven "broke" last week. Rhodes and Raven brawled and it was OK. I'm interested to see where this leads....

3LK vs. Skipper/Kazarian/Shane was the main event of the show. It wasn't too bad as they did all their usual stuff but of course it ended horrible with Jeff Hammonds not only making the save after the match, but we also had to endure him shirtless in the ring for a couple of disturbing minutes as well. I still have no clue why they are doing the tag match with him at the PPV, maybe because he couldn't be much worse than B.G.? Ok, I got nothin.

The Last Free Voice - January 29, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
Once again work prohibits my veiwing of it, but it sounds decent-ish... But did they do any hype at all for Styles/Daniels?

dynamite kido - January 29, 2005 05:13 PM (GMT)
They basically just had Daniels doing commentary during the show, which Daniels is really good at to my surprise. The only build stuff for them was just showing the promos for the PPV advertising the match.......

Scrooge McSuck - January 29, 2005 05:47 PM (GMT)
The company makes one good decision by making Styles/Daniels a 30 minute iron man match, but they counter that by making Jeff Jarrett vs. Kevin Nash as the Main Event.

Well, you can't have your cake and eat it too I guess.

dynamite kido - January 29, 2005 05:51 PM (GMT)
Funny thing is......since Dusty's booking favor's the title.............Jarrett/Nash are going to have to follow Daniels/AJ. Sucks to be them.....

Scrooge McSuck - January 29, 2005 06:05 PM (GMT)
Yup... weird question, but can someone explain the darn Jarrett/Nash feud? I basically hit the old channel up button everytime they try making me watch the "press conference". Just seems so thrown together... more than usual.

dynamite kido - January 29, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
Nothing to explain, they haven't given a valid reason on TV for it at all. The press conference was the first thing to really give an explaination and Nash basically just said, "It's for the money". Pretty lame....

Mad Dog - February 5, 2005 06:18 PM (GMT)
I thought Shark Boy vs. Petey Williams was highly entertaining this week. It's good to see him back. I was stunned by how hot the crowd was for that match. TNA, PUSH SHARK BOY!!!

Also if Daniels ever retires at least he has a career in announcing. TNA should use him every week that he doesn't wrestle.

Scrooge McSuck - February 5, 2005 11:31 PM (GMT)
Whoops, I missed Xplosion last night. I'll try and tape it tomorrow to see what happens.

dynamite kido - February 6, 2005 07:14 AM (GMT)
This was honestly the worst IMPACT that I've seen in some time.

Scrooge McSuck - February 6, 2005 07:41 AM (GMT)
(now is questioning bothering to watch)

Mad Dog - February 19, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
I don't know what I though of Phi Delta Slam on Impact. Didn't see enough of them but the tag division can really use another team.

Good to see Rhodes is pushing the Naturals.

dynamite kido - February 19, 2005 08:53 PM (GMT)
For the record MD, Phi Delta Slam had a match on the preshow for Against All Odds.......and they are such a fucking waste it's unreal.

dynamite kido - February 19, 2005 08:53 PM (GMT)
DOUBLE POST!

Scrooge McSuck - February 19, 2005 09:14 PM (GMT)
There's no one else to push but the Naturals. :D No more Shane/Kazarian, no more Triple X, no more Swinger/Gilberti...

Big F'N Swigg - February 19, 2005 10:10 PM (GMT)
Who is Phi Delta Slam, and why are they named after a early 80's basketball team?

whitemilesdavis - February 19, 2005 10:52 PM (GMT)
What early 80's basketball team was named Phi Delta Slam? I know the Houston Cougars with Clyde Drexler went by Phi Slamma Jamma.

Mad Dog - April 1, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
Only two matches this week as they gave Michael Shane vs. Petey Williams vs. Chris Sabin vs. Elix Skipper well over 20 minutes.

dynamite kido - April 2, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
WOW, I actually haven't watched it yet (It's on my DVR), so now I'm pretty happy about it......

Big F'N Swigg - April 2, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)

That's what I meant. When I heard the name, that's all I could think about

whitemilesdavis - April 4, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
I got very bores during Impact this week and just turned it off. In a 1 hour show, that's bad. WAY too much vignette/ commercial type stuff. Bad show.

You'd think that the fact that they were paying so much for the airtime might make them think about that.

I agree with the Attitdue-era McMahon rule: Don't let any segment get over 90 seconds if you can. It gives too much opportunity for channel changing

Big F'N Swigg - April 17, 2005 12:19 AM (GMT)
ON last weeks episode, the segment with Skipper/Daniels was horrible. It read like a play written by an eighth grader

Big F'N Swigg - April 23, 2005 08:11 PM (GMT)
I must say that I can't stand the fact that 3LK gets to waste so much time by "rapping" on the mic before the matches. I felt like strangling BG for the "Y'all gonna make me lose my mind" shit. I thought he was a bit more creative than that.

And West really pissed me off by saying outright that Candido was faking it.

Big F'N Swigg - April 30, 2005 12:50 AM (GMT)
It was sad to watch iMPACT when most of the focus was on Candido.

Big F'N Swigg - April 30, 2005 02:18 AM (GMT)
Also: This week's episode revived my hate of Mike Tenay. As an announcer, you are supposed to be a neutral observer describing the action to aid the people watching. Tenay got himself WAY too involved.

Someone needs to tell Tenay he's a "wrestling journalist" not an "on air character"
