DARK MATCH Deuce and Domino d. two generic baby face jobbers. The generic baby face jobbers, suspiciously billed as from Tucson, showed some generic baby face jobber fire (fringe on boots!), but were inevitably beaten by those jerks Deuce and Domino. Cherry seems like a nice gal.
SMACKDOWN King Booker d. Matt Hardy A good, longish back and forth match between these two Money in the Bank competitors. Booker wins with the scissor kick after some interference from that JEZEBEL Sharmell.
Kristal interviews Batista backstage. When did Kristal stop being evil?
They show a pretty good video package of each of Undertaker's WM wins.
Maryse is on screen. Elle est chaude! She welcomes us back. We didn't go anywhere, Maryse! Silly Maryse.
MVP interrupts Teddy Long looking at a magazine of those divalicious Divas. He asks for a match with Benoit at WM. Barf.
Kristal catches up with Kane backstage. He's going to wrestle Batista, and he says that. But in a CREEPY way.
Batista d. Kane This was a clash not only of titans, but two bona fide hosses. I did not expect a catch-as-catch can mat classic from these two. What better way for Batista to prepare for the Undertaker than wrestling someone that has lost to the Undertaker dozens of times? The crowd was behind both guys; apparently they have not taken note of Batista's decreased in-ring performance since returning from injury! Fools. Another long match. Batista wins cleanly with a powerbomb out of the corner.
I notice someone with a Hurricane, Rosey and Super Stacy t-shirt. I didn't know that they were together as an entity long enough to have a t-shirt made.
The Miz is out for the inaugural edition of MizTV. Think Piper's Pit, except, well. You know. His guest is Ashley - but wait! He has another guest! Melina! This has calamity written all over it, my friends. Ashley challenges Melina to a match for the women's championship. Soon they're fighting as if they were cats, with the tough Ashleyness getting the best of Melina.
Mr. Kennedy d. C.M. Punk Kennedy cleverly subverted his intro, saying he'll soon be known as "Mr. Money in the Bank." That guy. A real silver tongue on him. Punk doesn't get as good of a pop as I, and presumably he, hoped. Mr. Kennedy won cleanly with a hanging neckbreaker. IS PUNK BACK IN THE DOGHOUSE?
Kristal talks to Finlay, who talks about his "Pure hot Irish blood."
What kind of wuss would go for the "rated" version of The Marine?
The Great Khali attacks Kane backstage while Kristal is trying to ask him who is going to win Batista/UT. Kristal is the star of this show.
Undertaker d. Finlay Dylan, I mean Little Bastard, I mean Hornswoggle (ugh) interfered, allowing Finlay to get the advantage, albeit surely an unfair one. A kid behind me says "C'mon 'Taker, you're a taker. So take it." I really never thought about it that way. The antics involving Hornswoggle (ugh) eventually backfire, leading to a chokeslam and tombstone. Finlay used to do the tombstone. It was his special move in WCW/nWo Revenge!
After the match, Batista comes out to give UT the double thumbs down. Oooh. UT gives him a throat slash AND a "I want the belt around my waist, yep, this waist right here." |
London and Kendrick are no where to be seen again? Their title reign reaches its 10 month mark in a matter of weeks.

Those were actually pretty entertaining spoilers actually.
SamoaRowe - March 7, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I enjoyed reading them. "Cherry seems like a nice gal."

I vaguely remember that shirt, but I can't imagine anyone who'd actually want to wear it, even to a wrestling event.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 02:22 PM (GMT)
Kane jobs to Batista... yay! I can't wait for that Kane/Khali showdown at Rasslemania.
whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
Kane should wrestle Booker every night.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
Or anyone with any amount of talent. I know I've said it before, but at age 40, and a laundry list of injuries to his credit, Kane is well past his prime at this point.
whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
Seriously though, he's still a valuable commodity. It's a shame that he isn't used better.

It's because of the thing that tends to hurt them on a regular basis. Shitty lazy booking.
After Kane was turned into the nonmasked version, he should have never looked bad at that point. So what do they do? Put him in a feud where SHANE gets the best of him. DUMB.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
I should remind everyone, they did THE EXACT SAME THING IN 2005. HHH used Kane as a warm-up to Batista in "Pick Your Poison" matches.

I didn't even think of that actually. Although I'm not Kane's biggest fan, I give the credit. He manages to stay over considering how many times he's been buried.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 03:29 PM (GMT)
Lazy WWE is all I got to say. Really fucking lazy. I'm sure everyone here, with the same amount of time as the "creative team", could come up with better storylines.
HBK/CENA - Mis-matched tag partners who respect each other but one wants the others singles belt.
Umaga/Lashley - Uh... what?
TakerBatista - Taker's streak. whoopy, how creative. At least it works, I'll give that credit.
Money in the Bank - Lazy.
ECW has been kinda watchable for the Originals/New Breed storyline. Everything else on ECW still sucks dick, like the D-Level "Cheerleader dances."

I agree and disagree with some of those actually.
I think that the HBK/Cena thing is lazy as fuck. They used to do this with Austin on a regular basis when he was first starting to come on in 97. Personally I would have booked it with Cena being the favorite and HBK doing the "last chance to shine" deal where he's the "Rocky" character from Rocky IV. You know, everyone thinks he's washed up and can't do it anymore.
Umaga/Lashley has been awesome so far. It was a match that I didn't care to see, and now it's definately one that I think will be at least interesting. I don't know why they would give Umaga the IC for no reason at all though.
Taker/Batista is fine with me. I actually like the title vs. the streak. It's built in as something they can use to make it the big match for Mania.
Money in the Bank is hard to call though. I agree it's lazy booking as they just throw in everyone that isn't currently being used. It could however be used the best way ever afterwards. Like they can do a lot of interesting things with the person that wins.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 03:38 PM (GMT)
Umaga/Lashley would be fine if the center of attention wasn't Donald Trump and Vince McMahon. McMahon should NOT be the center of attention for WrestleMania.
Other notable feuds...
Kane/Khali- Why? WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY! WHY!
Flair/Carlito - I haven't paid attention to this. At all.

I agree with what you said about Lashley/Umaga. The Trump/Vince shit just makes it seem less important. I'm pretty sure they could've built that match into a big deal without Vince/Trump.
Kane/Khali? Because they wanted to hosses to go it for Mania. I'm actually a bit curious to see the match though.
Flair/Carlito on the other hand is fucking stupid. I don't wanna see it and if they had to get them both on the card I can think of plenty of better ways to do it.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
No offense to Flair, but he doesn't deserve a spot at WrestleMania at this point of his career. The rosters are big enough to not have to rely on middle-aged and geriatric legends. (waits for Jim Duggan to be announced for a match at WM)
whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
Umaga / Lashley - The only good thing was the brawl from last week. That was very good, and built interest in the match. Everything else has been lazy. Why did Mcmahon and Trump pick those two guys? Why did Umaga get the IC title?
Flair / Carlito - started off good, but has been pure crap since. I don't see it picking up steam either, as I just don't think Carlito has "it".

Dude, Flair deserves to be there. He can still work to a degree and can make a feud a hell of a lot better than what it had any right to be.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 03:53 PM (GMT)
But it's not a real feud. It's a throw-together match that has no place being at WM. I could buy it if the feud meant something to anyone, but Flair has no rub anymore, and WWE is never going to be serious about pushing Carlito anyway.

Oh, I know it's not a real feud. Like I said, they shouldn't be wrestling each other.
Flair should be in some sort of a nostalgia feud.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 03:56 PM (GMT)
Flair/Hogan! What should've happend at WrestleMania VIII...
Damn, that was 15 YEARS ago?!

Which could have been one of the coolest things ever if the WWF wasn't run by morons.......even in 92.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 04:00 PM (GMT)
1992-93 had to be the biggest "what the fuck" years for WWF.
They fucked WrestleMania good. They totally dicked with SummerSlam for whatever reason, swapping feuds weeks before the event. Then in 1993, they could've made WrestleMania good. Honestly. But they release Flair early, fire Jannetty for whatever fucking reason, and have Savage sitting on the sidelines doing PBP. Then the Luger push.

Tell me about it. Especially because you can make an argument that in 1992 they had their greatest roster ever assembled outside of 1986 (which I still think is their best roster year of all time).
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 04:03 PM (GMT)
Let's see '86...
Savage
Steamboat
Roberts
piper
Hogan (still in prime)
Race
Bret and Anvil
DK and Davey Boy
The Bees
Santana
Valentine
Terry Funk
Bob Orton
Orndorff
King Kong Bundy (he was fun to watch back then)
The Rougeaus on a good day
I can't argue that one very much.

Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
Oh, you meant in terms of actual roster depth. I thought you were going by "best workers."
I forgot about Adonis, Poffo, Muraco, and Rotundo, but after them, I stand by my list. That's still pretty good. More than a 60% cover rate.
dynamite kido - March 7, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
Actually I was talking a "stacked roster" actually. There were guys curtain jerking that could've held other companies titles at the time.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 04:13 PM (GMT)
Go'cha.
Impressive roster indeed. You know you're stacked when HARLEY RACE is in the bottom third of the company at times in terms of "match importance."
whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 04:14 PM (GMT)
Well that was the beginning of the nationalization of WWF, when Vince basically bought every top star from every territory.

Exactly.
Just to get back to what we were talking about I would probably put the WWF 92 roster slightly below the 86 one.

Also notice that the guys that are on BOTH lists are pretty fucking awesome in their own right?
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)
Definitely... except for Santana. He kinda' grew stale by the time 1992 came around, and pretending to be a Matador didn't help his cause.
dynamite kido - March 7, 2007 04:27 PM (GMT)
I still thought that Tito was an outstanding worker in 92. Although the gimmick is among one of the worst I'd ever seen.
whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
I was never a Tito fan. He had some decent matches in the early days, but I just saw him as a servicable worker, and not much more.
dynamite kido - March 7, 2007 04:30 PM (GMT)
Really? I'm actually a bit surprised by that WMD.
