Title: RIP Bad News Brown

QUOTE (PWInsider)
Slam Wrestling is reporting that Allen Coage, known in wrestling as Bad News Allen and Bad News Brown, has passed away at age 63. Coage passed away early this morning in Calgary at Rockyview Hospital after being rushed there following chest pains. Three weeks ago, Coage had undergone hip replacement surgery.

A bronze medal winner in judo at the 1976 Olympics, Coage was a star for the Stampede promotion in Calgary and also worked for New Japan Pro Wrestling. He is probably best known for his run in the WWF in the late 1980's as Bad News Brown, where he feuded with Bret Hart in Hart's first feud as a singles competitor in the company. Brown main evented shows against Hulk Hogan and also worked against Roddy Piper, with the two wrestling at Wrestlemania VI in the infamous match where Roddy Piper painted his body half-black.

Slam Wrestling noted that Coage had been working as a security guard in recent years. He had recently signed a deal with Jakks Pacific for a WWE Classic Superstar action figure and was scheduled to appear on 4/28 at the Legends of the Ring convention in New Jersey.

I just saw this and was about to post it. This is the second time this year where I've just watched a match of a wrestler recently, and then they pass away. It happened with Bigelow, too. RIP.

What the fuck.

Seriously.

RIP

It's Bad News for the wrestling world. :(

whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
It's sad to say 63 is ripe old age for a wrestler.

Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 02:21 PM (GMT)
I'm sure his early athletic competitions didn't help matters, rather than steroids or drug abuse in this case (from my knowledge, he hasn't been guilty of the last two, like guys like Hennig, Hawk, etc.)

dynamite kido - March 7, 2007 02:54 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I KNOW he wasn't a steroids guy.

Although I can't say anything about drugs though, although I think he was fine after he retired as I don't remember him being listed as a drug abuser. I'm sure everyone was doing something back then though.

I just gave my roommate a Ghetto Blaster in memorium.

Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2007 03:51 PM (GMT)
The ghetto blaster was awesome... until he ran the ropes for it, making it obvious he was going to miss.

You get the award for the day. I think I'll nail someone with it today myself.

I've actually got a great Brown / Luger match from Florida. Amazing considerring the participants.

I've actually found Brown to be solid when he wasn't in the WWF or his knees weren't shot. His Calgary stuff is pretty decent.

whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 04:12 PM (GMT)
The Luger match is mostly brawling, which Brown was great at. How he kept Luger looking competant, I have no clue.

Anyone that chokes out Jack Tunney on T.V. is A-OK in my book, even past his prime.

Definately. He was tearing it up in Stampede as Bad News Allen.

dynamite kido - March 7, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
His matches with Dynamite are fucking awesome.

eStragand - March 7, 2007 05:30 PM (GMT)
Nobody could "accidentally" punch a ringpost as well, or as often, as Bad News. He was awesome.

I maintain that the only bad matches he had during his WWF stint were against Jake Roberts. Everything else was usually highly entertaining. He was basically a brawler during those, but they were hella' fun.

Now excuse me while I run back to the lockerroom and bring out a snow shovel.

WOO! Bad News in the DWB banner.

Thank you.

The one thing about Bad News that I always dug was the fact that I thought he was a badass motherfucker. Only to find out years later that he was indeed said badass motherfucker.

whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah, generally if Dynamite Kid gives you credit for being a BAMF, you can usually bank on it.
